Stopped for the one night while passing through Cambridge. It was not expensive, handy on main road & free parking out the back. Wasn't 5 star but clean shared bathroom & beds comfortable. Suited us well for a stopover sleep. Would stay there again.
Booked at last minute, budget hotel with no frills. Was initially worried about the location on the main road but my room was at the rear of the property and was quiet. Room was a bit depressing as the window was tiny but it was warm and clean. Walking distance to town and right opposite Good George pub which was handy. Off street parking around the back and takeaways and cafes on the door step.
I had organised a large group to stay here, booked well in advance when there were more than enough rooms to accommodate all our requirements. Not sure how, but suspect they were not monitoring the online bookings against the direct, we turned up on a very busy weekend to find they had completely mucked up our booking and given our room away. We accept mistakes can happen! But, there was no apology or any effort at all to try and repatriate us to another motel Hopeless!
This should really not be called a motel. It is more like a hostel and it is too expensive for what is offered. Only positive thing I can say is the location. The rooms are poorly decorated, There is a huge communal kitchen, but I hardly dared to touch something. I would never ever go here again. I mentioned the price already, and to be honest, it was one of the cheaper options for Cambridge, but I paid $118 dollar a night, and this was not worth it. It it would have been a budget motel studio, it would have been ok, but as it was actually just a room with no real comfortable chairs or other facilities, it was way over prized. No, I dont recommend this place.
Came to Cambridge last minute, and chose here because it was close to the Good George bar that we'd seen and wanted to try out. Our double en suite was clean, which was a highlight, but the room was dingy, and the mattress on the bed had certainly seen better days. We didn't dare look under the bottom sheet, for example. It's also one of those places where you have to lock the door behind you as it isn't automatic. Common areas were aged and carpeting in need of replacement. Front desk tried to overcharge us for the room. We'd looked online and it was $100 for the night but when it came to pay, the rate was $110. We showed the manager our online pricing and they agreed, blaming the mistake on her husband updating the computer without telling her. Wouldn't go back, even at their rates. You get what you pay for.…
To be fair we booked in a hurry and did not do enough research on TripAdvisor but this is not a motel. At best it rises to a guesthouse in very poor repair: bathroom had multiple issues including soap scum rising through the drain the floor and a scary (for children) shower screen that slammed shut. No aircon in our room. Only 1 tiny shower between two rooms. Never had a motel that gives no tissues or shower cap. No plates. 1 spoon and need for a communal kitchen. Fire station siren was right outside window. Don’t bother coming here.
We booked this place online and paid around $250 for something called a studio 2 bedroom unit motel for our family. This motel was listed alongside and at the same price as other motels with two bedroom units which contain a kitchenette / tea and coffee making facilities, a small lounge and, importantly two bedrooms. What we got was two small interconnected hotel-style rooms, one tiny shower and toilet, a tiny kettle, two cups (for five people), one teaspoon and one glass. Anything more than drinks for three people required us to use the shared kitchen, which is something of the like only normally seen in a hostel, a camping ground, or a guesthouse complete with the fatty smell. On seeing my surprise that we didn’t in fact have a two bedroom unit like what would normally be expected when booking a motel, and the tiny en suite-like shower in one of the rooms, the host pointed me to the his and hers communal bathrooms down the corridor, which he suggested my eight year old twin daughters and ten year old son could use if there wasn’t enough room in ours!!! This place should not be able to be called a motel as it is more akin to a guesthouse. Whilst sharing facilities is great for those getting cheap rooms, I don’t consider we got a cheap room and this is not what you expect to have to do with a two bedroom motel unit. We clearly didn’t spend enough time looking at the details as we were in a hurry to book. Maybe the one thing the owners of this motel have truly done for us is to encourage us to check further before booking any accommodation in future. Sadly, as a New Zealander, this is not the way things once were in my beautiful country. As we sat in our room, seething, we went back to check the pictures on the site we booked from. The picture of the tree-shaded front of the building doesn’t show the sign on the side which says, in peeling paint “rooms from $79”. The pictures of the rooms looked big, light and spacious, neither of which they are in reality. My observation is that the owners of this establishment are aware of the true quality level of their offering, and that they use a sophistry-based approach with the information they provide consumers ahead on of time on it. On further perusal of their website, under the nice shaded photo of the front of the building, they claim it is “motel / hotel” accommodation, that there is “free tea, coffee and toast”. There are also “executive beds”, “air-conditioning”, and there are “two bedroom studio units”. Further down their homepage, possibly because they have had trouble with complaints in the past, they however, include a customer quote which refers to a communal kitchen. For the reasons stated above, it is not motel or hotel accommodation, and is more akin to a guesthouse. Clever use of the word studio aside, it is not a two bedroom unit. Juxtaposition of two bedroom unit with motel is plainly misleading. We had no air-conditioning, and regardless of wording buried further down the page, tea, coffee and toast facilities in a motel are usually available in your room and require the provision of enough cups and teaspoons so they can be consumed all at once. Toast also requires provision plates and knives. I recommend the owners of this establishment familiarise themselves with the provisions of the Fair Trading Act. A few other things to note for the owners from a maintenance side are as follows. The pipe under the shower is clearly blocked as foam came out through the (broken) overflow grate in the floor (the picture below is of the impact of one shower alone. The foam coming out of the floor was much more immense the night before). The door in the kids’ room was also broken. There was only one eighties-style heated towel rail for all five of us. As far as we can tell the other three towels needed to hang above the beds in the other room on broken hooks. The ceiling vent in the bathroom clearly hasn’t seen a clean for while. I haven’t seen a plastic shower screen like the one on the shower since the eighties either, and it’s snapping closed action nearly frightened my eight year olds out of their skins. There are also advice on the wall of the bathroom that the hot water can take up to two minutes to start - good grief!!!! Finally, if you want to use your caster to cast onto the tv don’t bother, and watch out if you have small kids. There are second floor windows, which you will be driven to open in your un-air-conditioned room (if reading the other comments you aren’t fortunate enough to have got one of the few air-conditioned rooms). The one at the front which opens out over a small piece of un-railed roofing has no brackets limiting its opening aperture and kids could climb right out of it and fall off the roof. A huge health and safety nightmare which I would not think passed any safety inspection. Oh, the good things about the place, as I need to be balanced. The “executive” beds were quite comfortable with quality towels (although there was nowhere for most of us to hang them) and sheets. Sadly though, we won’t be returning again to resample them. For anyone else looking for a good budget place to stay? I would recommend they read the fine print, are sure that what they want is a guesthouse, and only pay budget rates. The $79 from the side of the building would be, I think, quite reasonable.…
I stayed as part of a group while in Cambridge for the Tissot UCI Track Cycling World Cup. The rooms were basic with a bed, small fridge and ensuite bathroom. There was a shared kitchen and a basic breakfast was provided in this Kitchen. Some rooms had air-con - others had an opening window and fan. Laundry facilities were available out the back. Off street parking was available however you could not always find a park there. Location was easy walking distance to town and the supermarket. It can be noisy at times. Room was serviced daily. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall a good budget option.
I have stayed here a couple of times with sports groups. All our rooms had ensuites which were small but serviceable, take note that some rooms have shared facilities so if you see someone in the corridors wearing a towel, that will be why, so book with care! Some rooms have AC units but not all, so perhaps ask when booking if you are not a fan of the heat. It's right in town and seconds to cafes, fish and chips, a Thai restaurant, BP, and only a few minutes to McDonalds, more cafes and the supermarket. There is a shared kitchen/dining room which has a light breakfast available free and is good for preparing meals. The laundry and washing line are around the back if you are looking for them. As with any place right in town there can be road noise or noisy people in other rooms. For someone wanting to be right in town or on a budget this place still has more positives than negatives and I'd be happy to return.…
The parking area was a shared area with the shops that operated beneath and below the motel all the rooms were upstairs and sometimes there were no parking spaces available, the staff were very helpful and friendly
