Great location, Vongdeuan is a very beautiful beach, the resort and the beach have a lot of shaded areas, clean water, all perfect. The restaurant has a good choice of food, and is very reasonably priced. That for the positives. The "resort" itself is very neglected, dead leaves from the trees everywhere, no pool service etc. The staff was friendly but maybe they were reduced to minimum numbers due to Covid and could not cope with the many bookings over Christmas. If you need a drink, food or a towel you need to ask at reception or the restaurant. There is nobody at the beach or pool area, pool was also not cleaned during the day and was full of leaves from the many trees. There was not a single soft cover on any of the sunbeds at the beach or pool area, so in the early morning all guests started a hunt for the chair and bench covers in the restaurant area, to build themselves some kind of upholstery on the sunbeds. The room - we "upgraded" from a normal cottage which was in a totally dead area in the back of the resort to a Pool cottage (another THB 400 extra per night) but the state of the room was awful. Every single power plug totally loose, any plug no matter if European or Thai plug or adapters fell out. The bedside lamps broken, all seemed to be at least 20 years old (the TV was ok and seemed to be replaced some 5-10 years ago if that’s of interest). No storage space for clothes but a tiny 50 cm wide hanger space with 4 plastic hangers over the fridge- luckily we had a 3rd bed we could use to unpack our stuff. The bathroom is large, but very dark and gloomy because of the tons of leaves on top of the "glass roof". And it had the strongest sewage smell which made your stomach turn every time you needed to brush teeth or take a shower (with very low water pressure, but ok we are on a small island and it is maybe not possible to have better water pressure). Now the bed -- it was one of the most uncomfortable and hard beds in all our extensive travels. We have stayed in hundreds of hotels and resorts, and we do not need luxury, but this makes it easily in the top 10 of the worst beds and nights we had, if not the top 3. you could not even sit on the bed to read, after 10 min your bum hurts so much that you need to get up. We kept turning all night, everything hurt, we tried to make it softer with cushions etc. but no result - we seriously thought about leaving and to cancel our Christmas break - even though we had to prepay during the booking, and would have lost all our money. We rather wanted to be back home to get some sleep. We spoke to staff who were again really kind and promised to put a soft mattress on top, which turned out to be a 1 cm cotton cover - three of them and they really tried their best but it did not make any difference. The owner must completely refuse to invest anything, I am sure we are not the first guests to complain and nothing is done about it. Lastly the breakfast was a standard and minimum choice of 2 versions, western (eggs / sausages) or Thai. You get the minimum amount every day the same, with one (!!) slice of toast cut in half. The staff was really friendly so we do not want to make life more difficult for them, but the so called "resort" is run by the owner on shoestring budget, with no maintenance or investment, while charging top prices with over THB 3,000 per night. We travelled a lot all over Thailand and this is one of the worst value for money places we experienced. We had much better, cleaner, more comfortable rooms for 800-100 THB per night. Definitely not recommended, while the location is beautiful.

We came to Thailand mid March and soon found ourselves locked down for six months. As we desired to get out a bit and flee cabin fever some friends from Bangkok suggested Koh Samet. Went on line and we booked Vongdeuan for four nights. Arrived to a most pleasant staff and an outstanding Thai cottage and were really blown away how nice the whole set up was. The beach was right t here with a great sand beach and swimming was excellent. And right there too was the most delightful pool with clean clear water and one could switch back and forth between pool and ocean. As this was all Covid time, it was not crowded and that was nice. Food was very good, wait staff was so nice and went out of their way to be accommodating. Lots of choices for breakfast and again they were there to please to whatever wishes you may have. Hot coffee on demand and most tasty. We liked it so much we extended our stay for three more nights. And later in the month we came back for another 5 night stay. And most painless to get to the island and to the resort from Pattaya. We just drove down to ferry terminal and parked the car, hoped on the ferry and then a fast taxi shuttle to the resort and ready to jump into the ocean or pool. Water was crystal clear compared to Jomtien where we stay so nice to swim in a clean ocean and easy walking on the nice sand bottom. If Thailand ever opens up again to tourism, I am most eager to return to Vongduean. I get a kick out of some of the complaints and whines of the reviewers here. I saw a worm or a mosquito and they must be pretty wimpy world travelers. Get a life and enjoy nature and what it has to offer. If so afraid, stay home in the comfort of your house and do not expose yourself to these so called dangers. At any rate, I had a more than enjoyable stay and look forward to when I may be able to return. Jim at Maplelag in Minnesota And right now 10 inches of new snow here and 22 degrees and a true winter wonderland.

This resort is right on amazing part of the beach. Villa’s are spacious and comfortable and are excellent value. Staff at resort are amazing including restaurant staff - nothing is too hard for them to do when it comes to looking after their guests. This is an amazing spot for couples, friends and excellent for families especially with young kids as sand is ultra soft and the beach is gorgeous. We have stayed for 3 nights but could have stayed longer as it’s totally relaxing and rejuvenating. Can’t wait to return

We stayed here for 4 nights in late November. This was our first time to Koh Samet and after lengthy research, we decided on the Vongduean resort. One of the reasons for staying here was that they offered their own free transportation to and from the port on the mainland. We stayed in a Cottage room. Overall, the room was well appointed, and was very reasonable for the price. The resort is on a beautiful stretch of beach. The options for sun beds and umbrellas was quite limited, so you had to get up early if you wanted shade. The breakfast was ok only, nothing spectacular. At night, all of the resorts on the crescent shaped bay, including Vongduean, set tables on the sand for dinner complete with patio lights and a passable fire show. The food prices were fairly consistent across all the resorts, and those prices were high! There is a convenience store right on the beach, reached by turning left at the beach, which offered cheaper beer than the resort prices. Overall, the resort itself is ok, we don’t have any real complaints, but I don’t think we’d go back. We came here because we had never been to Koh Samet, and it was ok for a few days, but there just wasn’t that same magic that I find on so many other Thai islands. I don't think we would go back to Ko Samet, but if we did, I would not hesitate to stay at Vongdeuan again. It was clean, quiet, not crowded, and on a great stretch of beach.

This was a great place to park my heels for a few nights to relax and hang out. It was easy to walk all over the island. The staff was friendly and helpful. The only bad thing, is that I wasn't aware of a fee to pay to get onto the island, so I was caught unaware until a German family paid for me (luckily they were staying at my hotel and i paid them back and breakfast). So make sure to have money BEFORE arriving on the island. The food at the hotel was great and worth staying to eat.
