Despite the high price we like the Feuerberg Resort. One of the great experiences is a swim in the early morning in the infinity pool - you really think that you are on top of the world. The new massage area is lovely and the quality of the massages are fantastic. We love the attention to detail in the rooms and throughout the hotel. I would recommend to stay in the main house, unless you don't mind walking to and from your chalet to the spa area. If you appreciate peace and quiet, then avoid the school holidays, as it gets busy with children.

Our recent stay in January 2020 convinced us daily. We usually try to ski in a different resort every year, staying at different hotels. This is the first time we simply HAVE to book again. We knew this hotel has risen to great popularity in Europe, but really, we met guests daily who had stayed there since 5, 10 or 15 years, every year. And there are reasons for why there is such an incredibly high repeat-guest proportion - real Feuerberg fans so to speak. But let's start with the improvable areas: there aren't many, but if I'd have to point out anything, then it would be that some of the areas of the hotel show their age. This is house has an incredible history, nestled up on the Gerlitzen, above Lake Ossiach in Carinthia, Austria. Naturally, the house was renovated, expanded and re-invented many times over. With this much popularity and growth the hotel has seen just during the last 15 years, it had to be expanded almost yearly, and they did that in a very professional way. From the outside it is hard to tell which were the older buildings, and which the newer constructions. But on the inside there are spots where you will naturally recognize it. One little thing I'd like to see improved would be: more flexibility regarding dining times & spa hours. Please start dinner earlier. 4 pm would be great, but 5 pm really necessary for those who want to stay healthy and eat their last meal in the day earlier. In return it would absolutely be great if the spa area (at least the main pool and surrounding saunas and lounge areas) would remain open until 10 pm. That way those who like to dine earlier following daytime activities can use the spa areas after dinner, which would change out crowds anti-cyclical in the afternoon/evening, which would relieve the crowded lounge areas in the spa, as well as the restaurant. I know this requires some additional staffing and scheduling, but it would make a huge difference, especially since the hotel encourages a healthy lifestyle so passionately. Rooms: We stayed at at the very top of the oldest building, the "Wörthersee rooms" in 303. Ask for 301 or 302 if you are going for this room category as they have an even slightly better view (if that is even possible at all). At 45 m2 these rooms are quite roomy and have an absolutely breathtaking, unobstructed view from the new balcony and wall to ceiling windows. These rooms which were built brand new around 10 years ago, the bathrooms are nicely upgraded, two different seating areas, two TVs, lots of storage. Just some of the deco, furnishing and the floor could use a change, and the rooms in the oldest building are up for a renovation the hotel director told us. We would highly recommend rooms in the newest wing, "the Turmsuites", especially the corner suite 133, at 50 m2, with views both south and east, flooded with light through vast windows. The staircase and hallways in the old building are functional. You may find more luxurious stairwells and hallways in other 4-star hotels. Same goes for the lobby with reception, which feels a bit cramped when busy due to low ceilings, and floor and decor could use a facelift. In the reception lobby, the adjacent bar area, the staircase to the main restaurant, is where you might get the most feeling of "patchwork" expansion, but that is pretty much as far as the downsides go. Once you look past the design-flaws or tiredness of floor and furniture, you will be wowed by everything else. And that is a very long list, including: 1. Main dining restaurant: ask for a table in the newer areas to the right. The restaurant has 6-7 or even more, incubated areas in different designs. If you travel without children, then there are more quite separate areas. Just ask for it. 2. Food: all locally sourced produce, completely fresh and organic all the way. Incredible selection of everything. It's like on an upscale cruise ship, but healthier, and you will be absolutely fine with half-board. We could never have imagined eating a third time throughout the day. 3. Spa: over 4500 m2 (!) of sauna landscapes and pools, and that is just the indoor spaces. The wellness areas have grown over the decades and new buildings have been added. For an entire week we discovered new lounging/resting areas, quiet zones, whirlpools, swimming pools, saunas, steam baths, on a daily basis. In the end there were numerous saunas and entire left we had never stepped foot in, and believe me, we are avid sauna and wellness enthusiasts, trying to make every possible infusion ceremony. The place is just humongous and diverse! 4. Infusion shows: I have honestly never seen anything like it. We have been around the globe and at many luxury hotels with incredible wellness areas, but the "Concert Sauna" is over the top. The entire glass wall overlooking the Karawank mount chain and Lake Worth is covered by a massive projection screen during certain "show infusions". The surround sound system and subwoofers under the seating areas is incredible. There are fog machines, light-show, music and projections all time to an infusion show, orchestrated by a show master who dances around with towels, to whip down the moist air in rhythm with the music. Picture 50 or more adults wrapped in nothing but towels cheering along in the heat, sound and light experience for 20 minutes. And it's free of course. Just be there 15 minutes early to get in line so you can pick the seat level you want. Lower levels fill up quicker and staying on the cooler levels at the bottom is recommendable in order to be able to focus on the show without fainting in the heat. :-) 5. The slopes: were well groomed and even though it had not snowed in over 3 weeks, conditions on the Gerlitzen were superb! The hotel is as ski-in/ski-out as it gets with a great ski depot with boot heaters, etc... 6. The infinity pool: one of the most photographed motives - not just at this hotel, but for the entire mountain and region. 7. The views: incomparable! In the alps there just aren't many valleys as deep as the ones below the Gerlitzen (which contains Lake Ossiach, Lake Worth, Villach and Klagenfurt). The Gerlitzen Mountain sits north of these grand and deep valleys. The views span hundreds of kilometers across mountain chain after mountain chain due to the vast distance to the rocky ranges of Karawanks (Slovenia), Dolomites (Italy), the surrounding Austrian Alps, and the High Tauern (to the West and North). From the south-facing hotel Feuerberg, the views are stretching east and south. Just a hundred meters above the hotel is the peak of the Gerlitzen where you have 360 degree views, surrounded by nothing both mountains as far as the eye can see in every direction. The state of Carinthia should build a tower up there which elevates you above the chairlift stations. From the hotel Feuerberg you have absolutely incomparable views from the majority of rooms, terraces, pools, swimming lakes, saunas, restaurant, bars, etc... 8. The kids facilities: one of numerous areas we couldn't even get to during an entire week. I wanted to climb, participate in archery, yoga, gym classes, hiking tours, but got to none of those things in an entire week. Way too much to do at this hotel. So we only heard from other parents and their kids from the incredible kids facilities, with climbing hall and indoor sports and play areas big enough to have archery training courses inside. All kids we saw "disappeared" into that parallel universe of the hotel, not to be seen for hours. We are looking forward to being back and want to try it for a summer trip as well. Absolutely recommend this hotel for romantic couple trips, active sports holidays, or fun and educational family vacations.

I visited many Alepen hotels in Austria but this one belongs to the top for me. Super nice modern design of the room, a lot of light, beautiful view, comfortable bed. Exactly what I want in the 21st century - contemporary clean design and not imitation of "'östereichische gemütligket" from the times before centuries... Great spa and wellnes, especialy the infinity pool is amazing. Very good kitchen. Not the best, but very very tasty. Only two things could be better: 1. the snack is served too early 12-14:30), it is hard to catch it if you want to make longer hiking, which is why I return to the mountains (obvious time in many hotels is from 14 (15) to 17... 2. I know, that they know that the resort is perfect, but I would apreciate more welcoming staff on the reception by check-in (and the glass of prosseco of course :-) ) and by check-out just a question "have you benn satisfied?" - just for the answer "yes, I was!" (and a small farrewel present would be nice anyway). But I am sure to come back!!!
