Simply one of the nicest places to stay in Las Catalinas. Service is awesome, restaurant is second to none....especially if you get to do the Friday night BBQ. Anything you want they will do their best o make it so. The sunset villa rooms are just amazing. The views while lounging in your personal plunge pool, clothing optional, are breathtaking. You just can't ask or want anything more. The central infinity pool over looking the Catalina Islands while drinking a bottle of Champagne or your favorite mixed drink is just perfect. I have eaten here many times and have stayed here twice. When I want to relax or share an awesome spot with friends, this is where I come.

Hotel's Favourite
We just got back from our stay at this amazing hotel and we're already thinking about when we can go back. Easily one of the best experiences at a hotel we've ever had. There's a lot to say about Casa Chameleon and what we experienced. TLDR: unreal, and can't recommend highly enough! But, if you've got a few minutes, here are some details (and some things to know before you go): SERVICE: I can't remember ever having better service at a hotel. Everyone (and I mean everyone, from the concierges, to the wait staff, to the cleaning staff) were incredibly friendly and charming. Most would call us by our names, and over the week we got to know many of theirs. Most went out of their way to help us with nearly everything--setting us excursions, service in our room, medical treatments (I got injured on the trip), etc. They even hooked us up with some of the local chili sauce that they serve in the restaurant that is crazy good. It's clear that the staff really care about the guests and the hotel's reputation. They even have A LOT of trainee staff (you can tell because it says "trainee" on their name tags) so they do take the service very seriously. Just want to give a shout out to the folks that I interacted with a lot who are awesome: Herlan, Christopher, Rose, Christian, Edgar, Diego, Jose. I'm sure I'm forgetting many people. LOCATION/BUILDINGS/ROOMS: It's also hard to overstate just how lovely the property is and how stunning the scenery is around it. Seriously, they picked the best spot for this hotel, on a hill overlooking a lovely set of beaches (both south and north), with a lovely cove to the north and small island directly west, with Las Catalinas island further west in the distance). It's picture perfect. What's really great is that the view to the west/north (which you get from the "Sunset" view rooms) has nothing else man-made in it--the cove and the mountains that surround it don't have anything else build on them. It's pristine. Now, there is Las Catalinas town next to the beach, but I don't believe it's really visible from any of the rooms. You can see it from the hotel lobby. We stayed in one of the Sunset villas (Prieta, #21) and spent easily more than half our time in it. The view was incredible, and made even better by the giant plunge pool we had. Now, I understand they are not all of uniform size, but ours was long and narrow. Easily 14 feet long. And right on the other side of its infinity edge were nice fig trees that obstructed some houses directly beneath us (we were at the bottom edge of the property), but perfectly framed the amazing view of the ocean/bay/islands. I'll include a picture here. The villa's bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom was amazing. The shower has a glass wall so you get the fantastic view no matter what you're doing! FOOD: The restaurant at the hotel (Sentido Norte) is easily the best restaurant in the area. We did go to two of the "fancy" restaurants in Las Catalinas town (Ponciana and Pascual) and were underwhelmed by both of them--they're okay, but not as good as they should be for the prices. Sentido Norte stood above them all--figuratively and literally. The location is about the highest place you can go in the town, and the restaurant has no solid walls so the views are great from the main dining area and the bar next door. Breakfast and lunch are the stars, in our opinion. For breakfast, no matter what you order you get a nice fruit plate to start (and the fruit's fantastic). We really liked the local "Tico" breakfast, the breakfast burrito, chorizo and eggs, and the granola. But the standout was the "Knife and fork rancheros". Also, treat yourself to a "Morning Mary", which is their take on a bloody mary, but it's green. Very refreshing and different. Lunches are also very good. Don't miss the ceviche (either the fish or octopus), which were easily the best ceviches we had in Costa Rica. We also liked the Patacones, brisket burger, grilled fish sandwich, NOTE: do not leave this place without tying the "Calacas" chili sauce. It's a local sauce made from smoked chile de arbol. It comes with the breakfast burrito but you can get a side of it with almost anything. It's unreal--we bought two jars to bring home. Dinners are the weakest link in their meal offerings, but they are still very good. We loved the panko-cashew crusted tuna, fish of the day (mostly mahi mahi), and the steak frites. The calamari appetizer is different than any other fried calamari you've had, and was excellent. Oh yeah--this place SLAYS cocktails. Every single one we had--from their own creations, to standards, to ones we just had them create--were excellent. One last food thing: if you're there on a Friday, ABSOLUTELY make reservations to the "Grill". They cap reservations at 12 for this grilled feast. It was insane--several courses of grilled meats and sides that was easily the best meal we had the whole time we were there. The picanha was the best we'd ever had, and the beef short ribs and the pork were also unbelievable. Don't eat lunch that day because they will completely stuff you. Overall, as you can see we were in awe and will absolutely go back! THINGS TO KNOW/AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: So we do feel the need to include some caveats to fellow travellers and some recommendations to the team at the hotel. Again, we can't recommend the place highly enough. That said, there's always room for improvement. 1) Sunset Rooms: These rooms are on the west side of the property and get a full sunset view. It's amazing. But the sun is an absolute killer, so be prepared. And there is not outdoor sunscreen or shade to protect you from it--it's very had to enjoy the plunge pool in these rooms from about 3pm to sunset (6pm for us), unless you're slathered in sun screen. There is a blackout shade within the room, but there is nothing that partially filters out the sun. A slatted shade outside above the plunge pool would have helped. 2) Room furnishings: Apart from the bed in the room, there's really no place else to sit inside. This normally wasn't a problem as we were outside on the deck with the plunge pool, but in the afternoons with that sun, we couldn't be outside so had to just chill on the bed. 3) The hike. We had one of the lowest rooms on the property--the Prieta room (#21) on the sunset side. This was great for our view--we didn't have to see the roof of any other room on the property (as some of the higher rooms do). But it meant a lot of climbing--from our room there were about 80 steps to get up to the main pathway that links the lobby with the restaurant/pool. That's a lot in the steamy heat and if you have any mobility issues. This wasn't well communicated when we booked--we knew that they had golf carts on the property, but they don't really go to the rooms (just from the lobby to the restaurant, or from the lobby to the town down the hill). Again, not a big deal, but just be mindful if this might be an issue for you and plan accordingly.

We want to begin by apologizing for the delayed review. My husband and I stayed with you guys August 14th - August 18th and OMG the property exceeded all of my/our expectations. The property looked amazing on all of the hotel photos but even better in person. This was a surprise vacation for my husbands birthday and everyone made sure all of my arrangements came out ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. Scarleth, Gustavo, Fabian, Andres , Anthony, Herlan, our massage therapists, the manager at Sentido Norte, the Saxophonist at my husband’s Birthday Dinner, the individuals who carried our luggage down to the villa and back up during check out, the individuals who decorated both our villa and set up our villa with balloons, AND EVERYONE WE DID NOT PERSONALLY NAME BUT ASSISTED US THAT WEEK, WE WANT TO SAY THANK YOU!! My husband and I had an awesome time celebrating his birthday week at your property and we look forward to our next visit. You guys truly made not only his bday special but our first time in a Costa Rica 🇨🇷 a trip we will NEVER FORGET. My husband is YouTube blogger and captured all of our special moments at the property. To all our friends at Casa Chameleon and anyone reading this review, take a moment to look up “Step Daddy Dro” on YouTube. On there you will find a property tour and our overall time in Costa Rica (which will include our special moments at Casa Chameleon). Don’t forget to Like, Comment and of course subscribe! Thank you in advance for all of your support ❤️

Casa Chameleon is amazing. The views are incredible and worth making the trip to see. The hotel and staff are first class and will go to extreme lengths to make sure your stay is above your expectations. A few of the staff members at the hotel and at the restaurant Sentido Norte made our trip to Casa Chameleon worth the trip - a few names to mention that gave us amazing service: Herlan, Rose, Diego, Jose, Andres, Anthony, and Christian. Although we interacted with many of the hotel's employees and everyone was extremely wonderful, these select people always went above and beyond for us and we were very appreciative. They made our experience first class and I would love to see them all again! We stayed in Casita 17 which has amazing views and privacy. I highly recommend this room if you can snag it. The only downside to our room was that their wasn't much closet space and the safe in the room wasn't working properly - small problems to have in paradise. The food at Sentido Norte was amazing, as was the food by the infinity pool. The drinks were also great. We are from Texas which has an array of diversity when it comes to food and food culture, however, this place did not disappoint. The hotel's concierge was topnotch. Herlan and Rose went to great lengths to get us the things we needed, book our excursions, and provide us with an unforgettable trip. All in all, when we travel we want to be surrounded by happy and positive people and the staff of Casa Chameleon has the best that Costa Rica has to offer. I highly recommend this hotel as an option for a luxury vacation in a very luxurious part of Costa Rica.

My wife and I were searching for the perfect place to stay for our honeymoon in Costa Rica when we came across this absolute gem. We wanted to relax and unwind, but also enjoy some adventures like fishing, hiking to see waterfalls, sailing, etc. We also wanted to enjoy some quality time couples massage, picnic, cooking class, cocktail class, etc. All the concierge staff was super helpful, but Herlan went above and beyond to not only help coordinate out our itinerary, but also book everything to make the entire experience completely seamless. (you only go through the hotel no one else!) Just an absolute breeze. The hotel car service was excellent and our drive from Liberia airport to the hotel was a short commute, about 30 - 40 min. Upon our arrival Pablo and Rose (My wife's favorite!) checked us in and we were in our suite (Marea 17) right away. I had asked Herlan to help me with a romantic surprise for my wife, I gave him a budget and told him what I would like in our room when we arrived and he nailed it! I can't express enough just how blown away my wife was when she entered the room to find a massive custom flower bouquet, chocolate covered strawberries, champagne and balloons. Worth every penny. The views are breathtaking and the hotel and suites are truly 5 stars, but what really made the trip is the staff. The attention to detail, the service, I cannot express enough my gratitude to the entire staff. The restaurant, Sentido Norte lives up to the hype and the chefs during our stay put out 5 star food at every meal, every day, for a week straight. We tried nearly everything on the menu and it all was delicious. Big thanks to Marcos, Steven, and the rest of the restaurant staff. On Friday's they host a BBQ (Brazilian style) and let me tell those that are reading. Do it. One of the best nights we had and we're still daydreaming about the beef ribs! Our suite was top notch. All the villas (about 20) are perfect, but I will note that if you have trouble with stairs make sure to request a room closer to the top. We were in our plunge infinity pool all the time although it was a bit chilly at night! The canopy bed came in handy after a few mosquitos found their way in. Two air conditioner units that worked great in addition to the two fans. If we wanted to go to the beach, a member of the staff would ask if we needed a cooler with ice, chairs, towels and then would get it and drive us down to the beach in the golf cart (about 2 minutes). On the way down the hill there is a very nice grocery store with all the things you need, fresh food, drinks, etc. We would pop in and fill our cooler then enjoy the day. There is a number of solid places in Las Catalinas like Pots & Bowls and Pascual to grab drinks / a bite by the beach, which we really enjoyed. They have a bellman at a hotel down there and when you're ready Casa Chameleon staff will come pick you up. This was the trip of a lifetime and our honeymoon was everything we wanted it to be all thanks to the experience we had during our stay at Casa Chameleon, Las Catalinas. The luxury of the hotel matches the endless views and serene scenes of the rainforest. This place lives up to the 5 star description, but I honestly would give it 10 stars because it really is! Thank you to all the staff. We appreciate you so much! We will 100% be going back! Pura Vida!

The room was spacious and super clean. They paid attention to detail and had everything we needed available. The plunge pool was a nice touch and not a bad view anywhere. The tours offered were top notch. Hugo was our tour guide and was very professional and knowledgeable. He had a real passion for his job!

A very magical place that together with the incredible staff and attention to detail makes it a wonder of a hotel! The beaches around the hotel are beautiful and very private. For swimmers the pool is amazing. For foodies the food is to die for. Thanks to all the staff for making us feel at home. Be thoughtful that they’ll know your reservation by your first name and that’s how they know you throughout your stay!

I just returned from a blissful week-long birthday stay at Casa Chameleon - what a complete and absolute treat. I have stayed at luxury hotels and properties all over the world and Casa Chameleon surpasses most due to the stunning setting and first class personalized and friendly service. The property is gorgeous, the rooms (I was in a sunset suite) have amazing views, the pool is so peaceful and the town of Las Catalinas is a short walk down the hill. Sentido Norte (the on property restaurant) has great views and the food is the best in the area (for breakfast, lunch and dinner!). We relaxed, we hiked (several great trails for hiking and biking steps from the property), we did yoga, we ate, we drank and we laughed - really a perfect vacation. But as with so many other reviewers, I have to pay special attention and give thanks to the staff at Casa Chameleon - so friendly, so responsive, so customer focused - I don't know that I've ever experienced such a welcoming and service oriented crew. The concierge staff was exceptionally helpful and was very patient with all of my repeated questions and requests leading up to and during the trip - many thanks to William, Herlan and Pablo! I found them all to be particularly patient given that I do not speak Spanish and they were all so adept with English which was so helpful for me. Really really special place. I can't recommend it enough.

There are no words that could express the incredible experience my husband and I shared during our days there. The view from our room was breathtaking. The plunge pool was slightly cooler than a bath and was peaceful to spend time in. The restaurant had a thoughtful menu with a number of different options. We attended the BBQ on Friday night - excellent! Chef Jose shared how he prepared each of the five courses. He came around to the tables a couple of times. Every time he came to us, I was jotting down all the ingredients and how he made each item: roasted eggplant, portobello mushrooms, prime sirloin, short ribs, corn, sweet potato and pork ribs. He finished with plantains heated on the fire with vanilla ice cream. My husband enjoyed the variety of rum they recommended with the meal. Overall Exceptional! The people were more than accommodating, always with a smile and willing to assist. The people of Costa Rica are warm, generous and generally happy people who want to share their beautiful country with you. I would suggest, if you are not a physical/athletic couple, let them know you want to be closer to the resort. There are 22 rooms at Casa Chameleon. Our room was #20 and there were 81 steps to climb to reach the restaurant or reception area. If we had known, we would have definitely asked for a closer room when making the reservation. I mentioned it to Harlen, the concierge, and he said they would have accommodated our request. If you want a private getaway, with all your needs met, this is the place for you. Pure Vida!!!

We stayed at Casa Chameleon for 7 nights to kick off our two week honeymoon in April and had a truly amazing time. The property is beautiful and the views are stunning. This is an ideal place for those looking to rest and relax and the personalized attention from the staff really sets this place apart. As other reviewers have mentioned, the resort and the immediate area are rather quiet - this is not a late night, party destination but if you are looking for a romantic getaway filled with great food, drinks, and beautiful sunsets, don’t miss Casa Chameleon. Getting to the property, we had arranged private transfer from Liberia to Casa Chameleon through the hotel. The driver was great and we were certainly glad that we didn’t have to drive the narrow, curvy road to the hotel and could simply sit back and relax during the start of our trip. We stayed in villa 20 which is a sunset villa and had amazing views looking out over the ocean while in a secluded setting that made you feel like you were really the only room there. Twice daily housekeeping was fantastic and staff always kept our villa in perfect order. While you can take the golf cart (or walk) down to the beach in Las Catalinas (and Casa Chameleon will provide you with beach towels, chairs, and a cooler) we spent the majority of our days enjoying the sights from the main infinity pool. Blas and the rest of the Sentido Norte team made sure we always had pineapple mojitos in hand and took great care of us while we lounged by the pool. Sentido Norte itself is really quite good. Breakfast each morning and lunch by the pool each day was fantastic. Dinner was very good and varied enough that even having stayed for 7 nights and dined onsite most of those days, we hadn’t gotten tired of the food. Many nights they offer specials or a themed dinner - the Guanacaste themed night which highlighted local cuisine from the region was some of the best food we had in our two week stay in Costa Rica. All of the staff are fantastic but shout out to Carlos and Andres for excellent repeat service at the restaurant. There are a few other restaurants nearby in Las Catalinas and we dined at Ponciana one night just to mix things up and they had surprisingly good pizza. We also had a casual meal and margaritas by the beach at Limonada one day. There are one or two other restaurants in town as well and a small “grocery store” that is really more of an expanded convenience store but it is nearby if you want to venture off property for any supplies without needing a car. Spa services: We did a couples deep tissue massage through the hotel (they partner with a spa/salon in Las Catalinas) and really enjoyed it. They set up their tables in our villa and while it was a bit of tight squeeze, the massages were very good. Excursions: We did the horseback riding trip and frankly would probably have skipped that if we had it to do over again (not the fault of the hotel in any way but the excursion itself is just ok). We also did the group catamaran trip which we really enjoyed. Even while the weather wasn’t ideal for snorkeling, the afternoon/evening on the boat was a lot of fun. A few other honorable mentions - Rose and William were two of our favorite people (and first impressions) - they both went above and beyond in welcoming us and always making us feel at home as we were coming and going. William was critical in helping us with our dining reservations, excursions, and various other questions throughout our stay. Again, if you are looking for a quiet, romantic place to enjoy excellent service, great food and drinks in a beautiful setting with outstanding sunsets and views, look no further.
