This hotel is perfectly functional but feels like it is at a tipping point. The hotel is advertised as a 4 star hotel and i would say that it is currently scrabbling to maintain that status.

The snorkeling at Unawatuna is not horrible. At least not for this novice and his family. You can book a boat for about 40$ for three hours. This included equipment for 2 adults and 2 children. I think the going rate is 15$ per person. You can negotiate to bring you to Jungle beach, the ship wreck and the rocks.
The coral is non existent, but the rocks/reef has abundant fish. You can see a variety of fish, but of course the visibility all depends on the wind/current. I can't even start naming all the fish, because I don't know their names, but there are a variety and they are numerous. I would say that I say at least 20 different types of fish, and more than I can count in total.
