This hostel has a very nice atmosphere with music and hamacs. There is a kitchen and a breakfast is free every morning! The rooms are clean and very beautiful and you have the choice between private rooms with private bathroom or rooms with 3 beds. Tony is the owner and his daugthers work with him. Everybody is very sympathic and...

Where to start. I had an awful stay at El Tucan although I had very low expectations. Room was ok I guess, if you are ok with hearing everything happening in the rooms next door. I didn't trust the kitchen, it didn't seem to be cleaned up on a regular basis. Same for the bathroom. I will end up with...

Great hostel in a perfect location--right by the bus stop in Monteverde. Wifi is good. Tony, the owner, is one of the friendliest people I've met and will help you with absolutely anything you need during your stay. Rooms are really good for the price--as long as you can handle a bit of cold water in your shower this is...

The place was cheap and after a long buss trip we we tired of the hassle and gave up and took a room from Tucan due to its convinient location. The place was not clean and there was a constant noise mainly from the owner and the employees of the place. They did stop for the night though when they...

Our trip here was awesome! The prices were really good, and all of the staff members were super helpful and friendly. It has been the cleanest hostel I have stayed at, and all of the extra ammenities are great! Free wi-fi, free breakfast, hot water... It also provided extra blankets, which was nice since Monteverde is a bit chillier than...

We (2 girls) arrived with the bus in Monteverde and two people who were from hotels were standing there, we chose one of the hotels because we were offered a very low price. The rooms in el tucan were very basic but certainly ok for the price. The common kitchen and bathrooms are simply disgusting. The service was bad, when...

We were in room 10 and we unfortunately encountered bedbugs during the night. Staff is friendly, shared bathroom is fine. Kitchen is poorly equipped and not very clean. Also, the cat is underfed (very sweet still though). As an animal loving person I have a hard time with that. Bedbugs are the main, and a very serious, problem though.

I think it's enough if I write that I couldn't sleep all night because of bedbugs. In the morning I checked and I found under the mattress bedbugs and their eggs as well. I took my stuffs and I went to other place. I'm look awfull. I have bedbugs bite on all my body and even on my face.

As a previous review said it, they take the deposit of a couple who left the hostal at 6:15, and the previous day , they said "don't worry there is someone at 5am..." Wasn't true! The breakfast suppose to be from 6 to 8:30. We were planning to take the firts bus to Monteverde at 6:15. of course we missed...

Don't expect luxury but you get all you need: warm water, a good bed, clean towels, breakfast (bread, eggs, fruits, coffee, milk - if you want toast and/or scrumbled eggs, you have to prepare them yourself) Santa Elena itself is a small town so everything is close by: supermarket, restaurants, busterminal, banks,...) Have a drink and a salad at the...
