Response from Lou Castelet, Marketing at Lou Castelet Residence Hoteliere
Responded 10 Feb 2023
Thank you for sharing your experience. We are delighted that you were very pleased with your visit due to the well chosen location, the friendly and helpful staff, and the all-you-can-eat buffet. While the price may not be considered cheap, it is often an indicator of the quality and value one can expect to receive. Your recommendation for this restaurant is very positive and I'm sure it will be very helpful for others looking for a place to dine. Thanks again for your review!

We've been coming to this hotel since I was a little girl and the warmth and hospitality never changed. Close to Nice, Juan-les-Pins, and the lovely hill towns of Carros and Le Broc, the location can't be beat. The food is out of this world, and if you are lucky enough to be staying there while a wedding is also taking place, you may get a taste of the wedding menu. Thank you for all the wonderful vacation memories!

The hotel is a pleasant surprise not very far from Nice. It’s quiet and clean. They serve very nice breakfast and also have great dinner menu. Another great pleasant surprise is the very reasonable price compared to the prices in Nice.

Our tour group was slated to stay here - we were placed at the 'other' group of rooms. Wifi was a joke! There wasn't any! The breakfast was continental - nice and simple. The staff was trying to be helpful. The rooms had a refrigerator and stove for cooking - so my guess is that the hotel is catering to families on a budget?

I was forced to stay in these so-called apartments for one night after my BA flight to London was cancelled. I hate to write negative reports because I pride myself on positivity, but this was one of the most execrable places i've ever had the displeasure to stay in. Where to begin? The bed that was only five feet long, the mosquitoes in the room, the lack of fan and total disrespect for the guest are only the start. This place was more like a prison cell or a bail hostel. It was a disgrace. Moreover, the person at reception was as miserable as the room. Complete disdain for guest and almost pride at being rude. Only stay in this place if the only alternative is the street. Sorry, let me rephrase that, staying in the street would be better than staying here.

Visited this hotel in June 2015 for a 2 night prior and 1 night post Rapha Cent Cols Challenge cycling. I stayed in one of their apartment like rooms, had a small kitchen and table with supplied kitchen ware and utensil's. Pool was refreshing in the Nice heat and was very tidy and clean. Overall the facility was very clean and daily someone was mopping the tile floors. Hotel is owned by local family I believe and they spend much time seeing it is run correctly. I was impressed that even though many employees did not speak english they went out of their way to accommodate my lack of French. Wonderful staff all around! The restaurant was very nice for dinner and the wine list was excellent. Breakfast was good and overall rated it number 4 on my list of the 10 hotels on my trip for breakfast. Adequate cheese and meat but a lot or bread, cereal and yogurt. I recommend this hotel and would stay again. Thanks to your staff for a great stay! Chris

I cannot say enough great things about the Lou Castelet Hotel and Restaurant in Carros, France. It is set up more as apartments. The staff service is excellent and are willing to help you with anything. The cleaning service keeps the rooms and common areas spotless. The lobby area is beautiful. The menu at the restaurant is superb! There is a grocery story nearby if you choose to cook in the kitchen. We borrowed pots/pans from the restaurant kitchen. The swimming pool is well kept. The rooms have air conditioning and reliable wifi. Next time we will definitely return for a longer stay! It is a bit fare from Nice, but if you have a car you can get there quick (about 15-20 minutes away by car).

We - a group of 9, stayed there for 5 days. It is a bit out of Nice, but that suited us just fine, because Carros has everything that you need- a shopping centre near by (Carrefour, Lidl), gas station, bakery,... The residence has a beautiful pool and the village itself is beautiful and quiet. The staff is wonderful, efficient and helpful. The kitchens are fully equiped with cutlery, glasses, plates, microwave, pans and a dishwasher. The suite next to us had a smaller problem with ants (a few on the balcony), but they dissapeared when baking soda was used. We had lunch at the restaurant and I must say - the menu is yummy! :) The waiter recommended amazing rosé. We really appreciated the fact that, when driving towards Nice, you quickly enter the motorway and head for Nice Nord and then you can park in a big parking garage at the tram station and for a few Euros you avoid the big rush and explore the city. Oh, and we met really fun people there - I swear Russians are epic! :D Overall, we had an amazing experience, the price was very surprising- we expected much higher price seeing as this is French Riviera. The staff was superb, the ambient very relaxing and I really recommend staying Lou Castelet.

This hotel was one the best on our 4 week trip around Europe. We, being a family of four, stayed here for one night. We wish we could have stayed longer as the room/apartment was excellent. The hotel has a very nice swimming pool that the kids loved to use. The service from the hotel staff was exceptional, including the housekeeping staff. No problems finding it with our GPS.

An earlier poster stated the distance from the hotel to Nice as being 12km, however that is only to the outer western city limit. To the centre of Nice Google maps shows just over 25km, and this is the most meaningful distance as most tourists will want to visit the old town or port, for the beaches, shops and restaurants. I’d also recommend that you use Google maps to check the driving distances to the other sights you plan to visit (e.g.. Grasse, Antibes, Cannes, the Aquapark at Antibes, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferat, Menton or Monte Carlo) because staying in Carros can add to the driving distance. Like another poster, my SatNav also failed to locate the address. Fortunately Google Maps on my mobile phone helped. Also note that when driving from Carros to Nice center, you have two choices a) to take the motorway and leave at Nice Est and pay a small toll, or b) take the non-toll highways and experience a higher degree of traffic as you enter Nice. Tried both several times and much preferred the motorway. The hotel has a restaurant, but this is rarely open in the evenings and seems to be mainly used for special events such as weddings and conferences. I don’t know if breakfast or lunch was available, but assume it was open for these meals. The closest restaurant and the one recommended by Lou Castelet, is the Promotel hotel that is a few minutes by car and may be part of the same group. Their food was competent and reasonably priced, but not inspiring, however the waiters were very friendly and gave good service. So again we come back to the distance. If you, like us, prefer to eat out in the evenings when on holiday then you may prefer to stay closer to the centre where there is abundant choice and the possibility to avoid driving after a meal. We found the location rather limiting - usually after a day out we like to come back and shower and change before heading out for a meal, but driving during the day and taking another 50km roundtrip to eat out was not something that I wanted to do every day. If you prefer to cook at home or accept the occasional trip to the Promotel restaurant, then the Lou Castelet may be a good choice. However, the prices of the apartments are comparable to what you could pay in Nice, so other than the cold water swimming pool at Lou Castelet it's difficult to see the advantages. We booked last minute and took pot luck. The apartment (2 double bedrooms costing 175€/night) was large enough and had all the equipment to make a simple meal (no oven). It was clean and we appreciated that the housekeeper came in each morning to make the beds, replace towels and fix clean the bathroom. However, both I and my son found the beds to be hard and the pillows too thin - which affected my ability to sleep. We also found it hard to adjust to sheets again rather than duvets. There is a TV (no English channels) and a DVD player. There is free internet in the room which is generally adequate although the speed is patchy, and it sometimes stops for 10 minutes or so. From our experience few of the staff speak basic English. Not a major problem in itself unless you need help. A Lidl supermarket is 5 minutes by car and a big Carrefour 15 minutes away. Petrol stations can be found also on the main Nice to Carros highway (not the motorway) just 10 minutes from the hotel. Overall the apartment was OK but not great value for money - we've stayed in nicer private apartments in Nice for cheaper. So next time we will stay in Nice centre and also have the freedom to enjoy the sights and a relaxing drink at a cafe in the evenings.
