Let me begin by saying the pool and beach are lovely. There is an Italian restaurant, Rosini, a five minute walk away if you’d like to eat off campus. The marina, with loads of restaurants, is a 30 minute walk. Don’t count on a taxi as they are not readily available. Hotel associates are very nice and speak English and French. And now for the concerning part…. The hotel interior looks like it hasn’t been updated since the 60’s. Would be a great place for a movie set! Refrigerator in the room didn’t work. TV remote didn’t work. Air conditioning has one temperature, warmish. In the middle of watching TV, the TV just went off. Couldn’t turn back on. Elevator is broken - hope you aren’t on the third floor.
Staff are not friendly or even helpful, they seem to have missed the part about hospitality. Any request are met with rolling eyes or flat out NO including request for bath towels and water! The rooms are outdated and dirty. Bathrooms have black mold and bugs crawling on the walls. The view of the ocean is nice but the property management makes it difficult to relax and enjoy. The manager walked away when we requested a clean room and we later found him at the bar drinking and laughing with friends. Hotel is overpriced for what they offer and if you prepay, good luck getting any service! DO NOT STAY HERE!
This hotel seems to generate very mixed reviews, but I think the key to appreciating is to have the right expectations. It's not a five-star hotel because you're not paying five-star prices. The nightly rate is fair, considering the location and amenities, and actually excellent if you take the all-inclusive option (meals and drinks). As most reviews note, the building looks tired with broken tiles, worn surfaces, and a 1970s style that desperately needs updating. But the property's age is also an advantage because it has tall palm trees overlooking the beach and in the lawn area towards the side. Thanks to Jose and the other reception staff, I had a comfortable room on the top floor with beautiful sunset views of the palm-tree lined beach. I also enjoyed walking the hotel grounds and looking at the crashing waves on the rocky shore of the eastern side of the property. The other side has a sandy beach, which I didn't like much, but other people seemed to be enjoying. Compared to La Caravelle beach, this one was rocky and small with less than transparent water. However, beaches in France are public, and you can visit any that you want. The hotel's central location makes it easy to go to most parts of the island by car. For me, the highlight was the food. There was a good deal of choice, including French and Creole options. I really liked the fish dishes, Creole sauces, vegetable gratins, and desserts. It was great to be able to try local specialties, especially for the Christmas dinner. In fact, they threw a great party on Christmas Eve with a Zouk band, rum punches, and lots of music and dancing. Guests at the hotel were diverse (families, solos, and couples), but almost all were French speakers. I did hear the hotel staff speak English, so I don't think French is absolutely necessary to communicate.…
I arrived at reception to check in, it is very obvious that the English amongst the staff is very poor even though a lot of reviews are written in English..... . I got to my room of which they gave me the wrong number the maid was around and was very helpful and went to reception to get my key sorted and her english was very good. A maid's english is better than at reception? Rooms are nice and have everything you need, comfortable bed etc...People complain about the internet, at the end of the day you're in the caribbean relax and enjoy it. The buffet itself is ok but could do with a little more selection I was surprised that I couldn't get any cheese don't the french love cheese? The beach is nice, again people complain about the seaweed this is a beach and this is normal and part of nature.…
We stay at Le Fleur d'Epée on a regular basis because it is a great location, on the beach and well connected (quite central on the island). The rest is ok, no more, no less, nothing outstanding but acceptable by local standards. Especially since they revised their rates downwards a bit. If you expect or need an average internet connection: forget it, it is terrible! You cannot get connected unless you go down to the hall, and it is very unstable. Clearly no up to 21st Century standards.
The location of the hotel is TOP as it is in the middle of Guadeloupe and you can easily drive anywhere (both parts of the island). The room with sea view was really a plus, very peaceful to look at the boats passing-by and falling asleep with the sound of the waves of the sea:)! Internet not available everywhere and food not really great (but there are many good restaurants close by;)! A wonderful occasion was to meet beautiful and sweet Claudia, the hostess who was there with a big smile on her face every day, always extremely helpful and patient, providing very useful information about everything we might need: best beach, restaurants, islands to visit, markets, etc. Overall, a very pleasant stay and perfect location to explore the island. Car is needed and you can get a special price if you book it through the hotel during the reservation.…
The hotel is average, the rooms are average, the barhrooms are average, the beach is small and full of algae, the pool is nice. Friendly staff though. Tip : buy the full access to food and drinks within the hotel.
Our destination was a 10 minute motorboat shuttle from the port. The beach itself was in a small bay with a narrow opening to the sea. This made the water very calm when general conditions beyond were quite choppy. The beach was not particularly attractive and looked a bit down at heel in places. Palm trees were dotted about providing shade. There was a good supply of sunbeds and umbrellas. There was also a watersports centre-cum-bar, which did a pretty good rum punch. Although a fair amount of seaweed bobbed on the surface the water was reasonably clear and pleasant to swim in. The sea bed was rocky in places. Not a highlight of our Caribean odyssey.
My wife and I had an excellent seven night stay at Hotel Fleur d'Epee. From check-in to check-out the staff were very courteous and helpful. I will tell you that we may have only been the English speakers at the hotel. The location of the hotel made it quite easy to get to from the airport and I felt it was centrally located so that I could get to the rest of the island easily. We had a very nice Sea View Room with patio that also had a small sofa and chair. The view of the beach and water was very good from our particular location. The room was well maintained. We had not gone the all-inclusive route and our stay only included the breakfast which was quite good and started our day out with a wide range of offerings. The breakfast buffet selection was extensive including meats, cheeses, vegetables, fresh cooked eggs, and a wide array of fruits and bread. For dinner you could eat at the hotel buffet but there were three restaurants within a stone’s throw. It is hard to describe but there were actually two beaches. The beach on the right was magnificent, calm and very nice to swim in, The beach on the left, because of its particular angle to the sea was much rougher and I saw several people surfing on this side. The waves were not too big and this would be a great area for a beginner or the older surfer. As we checked out quite early, Fabien (who was fantastic) offered to get us some coffee and food for our trip the airport since we were leaving before the breakfast started. …
Wifi doesn't work in the room, shower has hot water in the morning, but only cold in the evening. Room is not clean, bathroom quite gross (see pics), toilet seat broken. Went to the reception to complain, this was our dialog: "excuse me, I have this problem” Receptionist :" don't worry, we'll do what's needed" Me: *pause*... "don't you need my room number?" Him: "oh right" Plenty of noise at night if your room faces the parking lot, single glass doesn't hold much. Even rain sounds loud. Breakfast is limited but OK if just for a few days. Pool and garden/beach are nice Best don't ask info about visiting the island at the reception, as the info we got was wrong. Wouldn't recommend!
