Fabulous stay, room was nice and cosy. Was lovely waking up to snow covered grounds, my son couldn't believe his luck. Lovely meal and friendly staff. Thanks to the lovely staff for making our stay so enjoyable.

We recently stayed at The Mountain House & thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. A delicious, broad menu & lovely rooms with comfortable bed. This was our 2nd stay and definitely would be back. Disappointed the room wasn't pre-heated being up the mountain in the middle of winter but it definitely didn't ruin our stay. Thanks again

Beautiful location surrounded by native forest/bush. Stayed 2 nights in accommodation at the rear of main complex. Room was very comfortable, clean and warm; also quiet (few guests or like-minded quiet ones). Guests either eat at restaurant or take 20min plus drive to Stratford. Food and wine at restaurant is fairly pricey, as expected, but good quality. Staff are exceptionally... More

We booked in to The Mountain house to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary somewhere close to home. We have stayed before - about 15 years ago . We checked in to the hotel then went for a hike on a beautiful afternoon. The room was of a high standard and much improved on 15 years earlier but the real surprise... More

My husband and I booked one night at the Lodge to celebrate some alone time together. After some serious tramping, we checked in and discovered a comfortable, warm and clean room with lovely linen and a spa bath. A short walk to the restaurant was met with a cosy fire, sofas and a glass of red. Then came one of... More

We are locals who went for a night up the mountain as a special treat for a celebration. We stayed one night in the family room (the only one left that night). The room was lovely with an amazing super king bed, lovely wooden furniture and a spa bath. The restaurant area was lovely with big arm chairs and fire... More

If you want to have a get-away from the city, or a romantic weekend, this is the place! there are several beautiful tracks to walk, and some of the rooms are located short walking-distance from the main building of the hotel, with parking right outside the room. The staff is very friendly, and the rooms a clean with spa-pool. The... More

I loved it here. You're in the National Park, you're in the shadow of Mt Taranaki, you're in the heart of nature. So the location is tremendous. As is the lodging and the restaurant. Let's get one thing out of the way with the rooms though - they're not luxurious. Pretty sure I saw them described this way online somewhere... More

The restaurant and food are absolutely top class at The Mountain House but it is let down by the average accommodation. To be fair, it was clean and tidy and reasonable comfortable but it did not meet the standard of the restaurant. It was like being in two different establishments. The service was excellent and the atmosphere is fantastic.
