We wanted to stop over in Auray and were happy to find accommodation in this friendly hotel. The terrace was great and we enjoyed eating oysters there and also tried some of the bottled aubergines. It is nice that the locals also gather there and the market was right in front of the hotel!

We stayed here for one night will on a road trip through this part of France. It was super convenient (walkable) to everything in town and a short drive to the historic sites in the surrounding area. Parking was right out front and we didn't have to pay and check in was easy - just had to go to the adjacent bar. The room was small but clean and comfortable with a nice shower and wifi and we would recommend it for anyone staying in town.

Pleasant hotel with friendly staff and a nice bar. Good, comfortable bed, though only one thick duvet. With the noise from the bar it wasn't possible to sleep with the window open so it got a bit too hot. Small bathroom, but good shower. Good wifi in room and at last a hotel room with a decent central light, not just dingy little bedside lamps. No other in-room facilities (e.g. no safe, fridge or coffee). Breakfast buffet a bit limited, but I experienced far worse in parts of Brittany. The car park outside is not very useful. White bays are free but almost always full; blue bays need a disc. But if you go to the opposite corner of the square and turn left there is a big free car park, just a minute's walk from the hotel. Auray is a bit difficult to navigate due to one way streets. It's best if you come in off the Carnac junction from the main N165 road.

I was traveling through the area with my 10-year-old and we needed to stay one night in Auray to catch a very early train. This was a perfect hotel for our needs. It is across the square from the amazing Saint Gildas and a very nice farmers market as well. We were able to easily walk down to the old harbor and wander through the old town and really felt we had discovered a special corner of Brittany. The hotel itself is not fancy but was very clean and comfortable. The highlight though was the manager Anne who drove us to the train station at 6:30 am to catch our train. SO nice!! I would definitely recommend Le Cadoudal!

My partner and i booked this hotel from Australia knowing very little about the area so we were somewhat sceptical about booking a hotel other than the well known brands that we are used to, but from the moment we stepped into this lovely hotel we were made to feel extremely welcome. The check in was smooth, hassle free and we were given lots of friendly advise on the area. Our room on the second floor was spacious, extremely clean (as new clean) and had a very calming view overlooking the square in front of the hotel. Breakfast was lovely and included fresh Croissants, baguette ,home made preserves and great coffee served by happy staff .. Our hosts who spoke great English were very helpful in translating the things we didn't understand and gave us plenty of information to make our stay more comfortable. We stayed for 4 nights and we wanted to stay longer and would definitely recommend Le Cadoudal and both Antoine and Anne(the owners) who made our stay really special . Thank you both very much and we will see you again. Tim and Michelle

Very friendly owner(?) who speaks excellent English and was cheerfully helpful at all times. The bar is obviously popular, particularly in the morning when the whole of Auray seemed to have called in for coffee on the way to work. As we had a long drive ahead of us, we had breakfast there - plenty of it with home-made jams; swift service despite being busy The room wasn't spacious but adequate. The shower room, however, was bizarre. As mentioned by another reviewer, the chemical, whirlpool toilet was disconcerting to say the least, from the alarming forward tip to the loud noise so that we could hear everone else's too. There was mould in the shower cubicle but it all worked fine. It's the location which makes this place. Right on the square where Brittany's 3rd biggest market happens every Monday. (Something to remember if you arrive before 3pm because there is nowhere - and I mean nowhere - to park.) After that, there's plenty of shady space just outside the hotel. Auray is a lovely town and Le Cadoudal is easy (though down a steep, cobbled hill) walking distance to the very pretty harbour where there are plenty of places to eat.

This hotel does not merit 2 stars. The room we had was minimally furnished. The floor was not carpeted, and the electricals were rather suspect. The main switch was half way round the room and to switch on the TV and the bedside light there was some sort of suspect connection socket. (See photo). The mattress was extremely thin and was the most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept in. I should have known as soon as I stepped into the room and saw the candlewick breadspread! When was the last time anyone used candlewick beadspreads? At least 40 years ago!! And then when I saw the chemical toilet, alarm bells did ring. It was impossible to sit on the loo and not tip the toilet seat over when standing up! I wanted to change the room there and then. However, my partner said that as it was for only one night to just put up with it! Worse was to come - during the night, waste from the loo came up throught the shower and would not drain away. It was really disgusting. When we complained about this in the morning, the owner said that they had been doing some improvements and that "it happened from time to time". She offered to clean the shower so we could then use it. What she didn't seem to realise is that it's just not acceptable to accept guests and charge for a room when there is s*** in the shower. (See photo.) What she should have done was offer us some financial recompense. Unfortunately, as it happened we had paid the night before. If we had not done so, we would have been in a stronger position to demand a reduction.

The bedrooms are accessed through a secured door next to the bar/restaurant, they were very comfortable and clean. Our room was quiet even though it overlooked a large tree lined square/car park, which is also used by the guest's. A generous breakfast (Petit dejeuner) was servered next door in the bar/restaurant. The owners wife had spent time in the UK and was able to assist with queries if neccessary
