This little hostelry is difficult to find in Cluny even when you are just outside the door, but there it is in central Cluny . I think it is actually half a very old building. One walks along corridors that are along side an interior wall and the twists and turns along the way are intriguing . Once found , the welcome is genuine and friendly , the rooms are simple but well furnished . We were there on one of the hottest days of the year and so the shutters had been kept closed , thank goodness. A very comfortable nights sleep and all the bathroom equipment worked well . A lovely local breakfast outside in the slightly odd garden and yard/terrace- all added to the charm of the hostess and ambience.

It's really a perfect place to stay. Absolutely central, few meters from the entrance to the abbaye. Very cheap parking just outside the door. Lovely landlady. Very big room. Good breakfast. What do we need more???

This beautifully renovated Gite has everything from a warm welcoming host, Claire, who provided us with every hospitality, to very comfortable beds and facilities. The grounds are relaxing and right next to the famous Cluny Abbey. We had an excellent start to our walking the Camino from Cluny. Thank you.

Definitely not a run of the mill hotel. The Clos de l'Abbaye is squeezed into an old building on the main tourist square at Cluny, Following the GPS will get you there, but then the fun is to find it - as some American visitors rather grumpily commented earlier this year. When you do, there's an entry-phone that lets you into a delightful courtyard (even in November, when we stayed). We were greeted by the assistant and shown up to a huge room in the attic. There seemed to be a knack to getting the staircase lights to come on, but we found that you had to get about halfway up before they did. Parking outside is chargeable, but just round the corner there was no problem finding free overnight parking. Our bedroom, the last in the place that night, had two beds in a big main area and a little staircase up to a mezzanine with further bedroom and a bathroom. On the first floor, to get to the room, you walked through the breakfast room that doubles up as a common room, with tea, coffee and infusions available for guests to prepare at any time. Curiously, our room had two windows that looked down into a store room next door to the breakfast room and a skylight way up in the ceiling. Luckily, there was a remote control for the blind on the skylight. Overnight it was very quiet and we had an excellent night's sleep. In the morning the shower was excellent. Breakfast was included and was good - served at your table in the breakfast room. For the money, it was possibly a little basic, but partly that was due to the pricing of the triple room. Guests who like to be pampered and prefer more conventional hotels, might be better choosing somewhere else.
