Base room is very small so we upgraded to a larger one which was well worth it. Comfortable bed. Well located with helpful staff. Free parking behind the hotel Nice to be offered selection of fresh fruit at breakfast The restaurant serves French food with some slight Thai influences at dinner ( don’t expect Thai food) Easy walk to other restaurants in Cluny and historic sites
This hotel is good value for money for a short stay to see the lovely town of Cluny. While the rooms are small the beds are extremely comfortable and rooms spotlessly clean. Dinner was excellent with a mix of Thai and French cuisine.
Really, really Nice place: beautiful Room, new, Simple and well decorated. Really Nice WC. But Aldo a great restaurante! The chef is very fiendly and talentos, the food remarcable and the people so friendly! I truly recommend it! 😍 The best way to finish a day in this wonderful old and amazing place, full of history! 😍
We stayed here on our way north one cold and foggy December night. The room is small, but really well designed. The bed has a modern foam style mattress and is comfortable, and the pillows are just about OK even though they are foam filled. There are even USB ports by the bed for recharging your devices. The bathroom is small but modern, and the shower works very well. Somehow all necessary things are there! There is almost no storage space, so don’t plan to stay more than 1 or 2 nights. And the heating is just adequate, it was zero Celsius when we were here - any colder and it may not cope. The restaurant is excellent, and there is a bar area for an aperitif. The owners are very friendly and welcoming - I really cannot think of a better place for a stopover.
Having tried all of the hotels in Cluny over many years I am thrilled to have discovered this hotel open for the last two. Neither pretentious nor expensive we will be returning next year on our way south and on the return. A few minutes walk from the main tourist areas of the town it has a very authentic feel. Run by a local man and his Thai wife the blending of French and Thai cultures is evident both in the decor and menus in the restuarant. The room we had was small but beautifully decorated in a contemporay simple way. The shower is good! The wifi works well. In the restaurant we were surrounded by local people, always a good sign. The food was really excellent, combining Thai elements with local products “Burgon-Thai” as the menu has it. The menus on wheels were fun. The wine and drinks list included some interesting items, local wines were especially evident and reasonably priced. Breakfast was generous and included local fruits. Taizé redcurrants and (at dinner Taizé ice creams). The proprietors and other staff were exceptionally warm and welcoming, as often, their English putting our French to shame. Recommended without reservation and a great stopping off point for the journey to and from Calais and the Med/Provence. And handy for Taizé too.…
Simple, clean, efficient, helpful, well located and great value for money this hotel has it all for a small town. Stopped here on a long bicycle ride from Spain to Norway and was happy with my choice. The Thai restaurant associated with the hotel is very good too and you are only a 5 minute stroll from the main street of Cluny. One of the owners was particularly helpful in ensuring my bicycle was safely locked in the garage which was appreciated. It will be interesting to re-visit when we do a trip to Italy by car soon.
We were welcomed enthusiastically by the young chef/owner of this hotel, who was busy perfecting his pumpkin soup ready for the evening's dinner and the following day's local food festival. His menu offers a mix of local Burgundian dishes and Thai inspired dishes as well, and is obviously a big hit with locals as well as tourists. He easily substituted items on the menu for a friend with wheat intolerance. There was a good choice of Burgundy wines. Breakfast was a feast! The renovated rooms are large and stylish and the welcome could not have been more friendly. The hotel is easy to find and situated about 20 minutes walk away from the Abbey, with a carpark behind.
I visited Cluny to meet my Uncle who has only a small apartment there. I decided to get a room there due to the proximity and attractive price. I was however very happily surprised. The owners are a local guy and his wife who is from Thailand. Good thing is you sample Thai hospitality with a big smile which is unusual in France. They are very friendly and helpful. They just renovated, hence the rooms are in very good shape and extremely clean. The hotel in general is nicely decorated. The highlight of the stay was the culinary part. The owner's wife being from Thailand you get to sample Thai food as well local food from Burgundy. The wine and beer selection is great too. Breakfast was lovely. I recommend this hotel as the value is great. Thank you to Igor and May for the lovely week end ! Adrien…
We had a great night at the Hotel de l'Abbaye. It was a spur of the moment stopover on the way back to Paris and they were very accommodating for my husband and I, 3 children and one dog. Rooms were basic but comfortable with one recently refurbished, very clean and reasonably priced. The food and wine were great, with the staff all very friendly.
I am glad that I give it a try for my very first holiday in Cluny, France. I was there with 5 family members visiting my cousin, I only heard from my other friends that at Hotel de l'Abbaye have great food from the best chef in town !! You will not disappointed ! The atmosphere were great , cosy and friendly . It's running by a young couple though but both were from hospitality industry no wonder why this folk is know what they are doing !! Very much recommended !
