Gorgeous hotel located in the quieter village of St Pere de Ribes. Rooms are decorated beautifully whilst maintaining the character of the old property. Pool is a good size for doing lengths but also chilling and venue is ideal for a quiet break.

Staff are really friendly and helpful and i would definitely recommend. It’s near to some fab restaurants and bars.

The owner was warm and friendly, spoke both French and English. Nothing was too much trouble.

The room was large and warm with a huge bed and great facilities. We had taken our two, very well behaved Springer Spaniels, and they were welcomed like old friends.

The breakfast is a joy. Home made where it was possible. Beyond scrumtious local food. We hope to call in here again.

We stayed at the Hotel Palou after booking some cheap flights to Barcelona, and not in the mood for a city break decided to have 4 days on the beach instead. Looking at the Barcelona coast area (Castadefells, Sitges, Vilanova, Tarragona) everywhere seemed very commercialised with big impersonal properties with terrible reviews and high prices. Hotel Palou is something else, 5 mins outside Sitges in an inland town called San Pere de Ribes is this small boutique hotel. Only rated as 3 star it far exceeds this standard in ambience and charm. The building is an old townhouse/planatation villa built in the 1870's and has lovingly been restored by the family who run the hotel. It is a beautiful building that has kept its original features and yet feels fresh and contemporary. There are 10 rooms, some with balconies, all individual and are spacious and airy with air con, hairdryer, TV, minibar. The hotel only serves continental breakfast although dinner is available on request, there is a lovely garden and swimming pool, and although in the centre of a town it is very quiet and feels very spanish. The Conchita family really make the place, always smiling and welcoming, it was such a pleasure to feel truly like a guest rather than one of a number. We do not speak any spanish and the owners Raphael and his wife do not speak english however their daughter who runs it with them does, so when phoning to book it is probably best in the mornings when she is there doing breakfast. Otherwise their website [--] you can send a booking enquiry- the website is excellent with virtual tour of each of the rooms etc..We stayed in the Banana Plant room which was spacious and pretty and Euro96 per night- exceptional value. There are a smattering of restaurants (restaurant Clau in the town was very good traditional/local dishes with a lovely patio) in the town, bakeries, gelateri but you are best driving into Sitges for more choice- we especially recommend Restaurant Fregata, near the old walls on the front- you should book ahead. Also if looking for a smaller beach than Sitges & Vilanova head to Garraf beach and have a traditional lunch at the beach restaurant overlooking it- packed out with locals. Also worth a look is the Cordoniu estate Cava winery in a town nearby (15-20 mins drive), for Euro 2 you get a tour of the beautiful Modernista building & wine cellars & a glass of Cava. All in all this made for a relaxing Spanish feeling break on a very busy coastline, with cheap flights and just a half an hour drive from Barcelona airport- great ! Am only sorry that I am revealing the secret of this lovely unique small property but had to write as the family deserve the acknowledgement !

The building and accomodation is lovely and everything was very clean.
The reason for my review not being 5 stars is that in the room we were checked in “RON” was very cold when we arrived -16 degrees. It barely came to 18 by the morning.
We arrived late at 2 am in the morning and had noone to speak with. We had to sleep with our clothes on and had No shower..!!!
The other thing we did not like is that for breakfast there was hardly anything for us. There were 2 options: vegan and non vegan. The non vegan one had lots of meats and the vegan one was not available.
The lady that served us was very nice and excused herself that they barely opened for 1 week and are not fully prepared. We asked for some eggs and they did not had. In the end she brough us some avocado, bread and pastries but it was too little for us and not very nutritious. Very expensive for 15 eur each also and they barely had anything…
Other that that the property ia amazing and my understanding is that the ownership is new so hopefully it will improve.
Everything should be ready when you open for tourists.
Our first night in Spain was not a Good experience because of cold in the room and bad rest and also poor breakfast.

This family run hotel is great value for money and the family could not do enough for us - our stay was most enjoyable and the room spotless and comfortable. Public transport was a short walk in to the village and good selection of restaurants - particularly liked Zen & Do. Breakfast was excellent too - continental with traditional Catalan.

We were lucky to be there during the fiesta of St Pere de Ribes - a 2 day and night party complete with devils, fireworks and plenty of fun.

I was a little nervous, booking this hotel based on only one review here but as our stay was only for one night I decided to go for it. I'm so glad I did as this hotel truly is a gem!

Hotel Palou is very easy to find and we arrived around 9 pm and received a very warm welcome from the owner, his wife and his daughter. We had 2 rooms booked for our family of 5. Both were immaculately clean, nicely furnished and very comfortable.

We were quite tired after a long day in the car and hungry having missed dinner earlier. Not a problem. The owner's wife walked us over to a restaurant a street or two away called Soligo where we received another warm welcome and enjoyed one of the best meals of our entire 3 week vacation.

The following morning we enjoyed a fresh continental breakfast in the hotel dining room before it was sadly time for us to leave. We will definitely return to Hotel Palou.

Hotel Palou

I think Hmax’s “What a gem” description of this hotel is absolutely spot on so there is little more I need to add.

If you want to experience a real Catalan family hotel in a real Catalan town then this is a great place to stay. We have stayed in many hotels over the years but I can honestly stay I have never been treated as well anywhere. But it is undoubtedly the people who run the hotel who make it such a great place to stay, the family who run this hotel demonstrate Catalonian hospitality and friendliness at its very best.

Our intention was to have a quiet base from which we could explore Barcelona and the fashionable resort of Sitges just a few kilometres away, the hotel is absolutely ideal for this. The family were always happy to give us the benefit of their local knowledge.. on finding the quietest beaches, how to get to Barcelona, where to park for nothing in Barcelona, the best local restaurants.. just about everything.

I booked this stay at short notice after yet another terrible week of this English summer, neither of us can speak more than a few words of Spanish, so when I was taken ill during my stay things could have been very difficult for us but to be absolutely honest the family came to our rescue and helped us far.. far.. far beyond anything we could have expected.
We cannot thank them or recommend them highly enough.

At their recommendation, we visited two restaurants in the town and both were worth the visit.

La Tremsa (it could be Premsa) is typically Catalonian and the menu was only written only in Catalonian not even Spanish.. so you can forget about English.. but we were welcomed like locals and after much laughter and pointing where served some excellent Tapas style dishes. It is always a good sign when a restaurant is packed with locals. Of course you take pot luck on what arrives on your plate, but that is part of the fun for us. There is no attempt to accommodate tourists here, you have to fit in with the way they do things as best you can, they welcome you and are quite happy to serve you.

La Soligno was a bit more pricey but the cultured and much travelled proprietor speaks fluent English, French and Spanish and is worth the price alone. He must have spent 20 minutes with us explaining every item on the menu, including cured ham made from wild pig of the forest, which feed on acorns. I must admit we thought he was making it up, but we later saw the same cured ham on sale.

We've just returned from 5 days at the Palou - this delightful 10 room hotel is an absolute gem. Hidden away at the top of the small town/village this 130 year old "americanos style" doctor's house has been carefully restored by Rafael and wife Conchita, along with daughter Inma and her architect husband, retaining as many of the original features as possible, Don't worry if, like us, you can't speak Spanish - Rafael and Conchita don't speak any English either!! As long as you're into mime you'll understand what Conchita is on about for most of the time - the rest is pure guess-work but you'll have a ball. Daughter Inma is around in the morning and late most afternoons with her two young children and for her most things "....is possible..." The whole place is spotless and is a credit to this proud family. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the wailing and nashing of teeth when we left was, I imagine, a sight to behold!

I stayed at Palou Boutique Hotel for a long weekend. The hotel itself is really charming, lots of old interior, high ceilings and tile floors. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, particularly the bed. There is also a little mini bar with drinks and snacks. The owners are really nice and helpful. Unfortunately it was too cold to use the outdoor pool which looked great :-) There are parking spaces in front of the hotel but once they are taken, it is a vit of a challenge to park nearby.

The only critical point i can think of is that the insulation of the walls/floors is not perfect. I had upstairs neighbours during the first night who woke up at 4:00 am and made an incredible noise which ruined a bit my sleep... But i guess that's more respectless other guests rather than the hotel.

The hotel is stylish and comfortable and very clean. We had a friendly welcome and were shown to our spacious room. Breakfast was varied with a choice of dishes from Catalan, Spain, and Europe all of which were freshly prepared. Within a short walk there were many tapas bars and restaurants.
