Karen is a Maori elder who, along with her husband David, does a wonderful tour of the Maori village, and other sites in the Rotorua area. My husband and I spent a day with them after Christmas 2016, and were pleased with the amount of history we learned on this tour. Furthermore, the boat trip on Lake Tarawara to the...

We just returned from a 3 week trip to NZ and our stay at Pounamu Lodge was definitely a highlight. Karen and David are simply incredible hosts. We felt welcomed from the moment we arrived and it seemed like we had known them both for a very long time. The lodge is beautiful, with an incredible view of Lake Tarawera....

We spent two nights at this B&B hosted by Karen and David. Karen is an elder in her Maori tribe and incredibly knowledgable about Maori culture. David is fifth generation Kiwi and together they are a marvelous couple that bring alive not only the history and culture of the Maori but also their love of the local environment. Their home...

There are numerous excellent reviews of Pounamu Lodge here, and they are correct. It is a beautiful venue with first class hosts. There is really nothing more to add, except "thanks for having us". Kay and Jamie.

We loved our stay in the cottage behind the house at Pounamu Lodge, a few minutes outside of Rotorua on Lake Tarawera. Karen and David were both kind and generous and, obviously proud of the Maori heritage, shared their stories with us.The cottage had a huge bedroom/living room with dining area, and there was a small kitchen, laundry room/bathroom. Karen...

On our honeymoon we wanted to do at least a couple of days in a quiet, off the beaten path, environment, that also allowed us immersion into the Maori culture. Our time at Pounamu Lodge helped us accomplish that and more! Karen and David were amazing hosts and welcomed us into their home like family. Amazing homemade meals, private guided...

We visited 2 years ago on our Last trip to New Zealand and just had to return, sadly we could only manage one night this visit but do look forward to our return next time...
