If it's rest, relaxation and exemplary service you require then this is the hotel for you. The hotel and rooms are modern and clean with hard working staff maintaining cleanliness on a daily basis. The restaurant was run professionally and efficiently during what are challenging Covid restrictions, the food quality and abundance of choices was outstanding with the slow roasted panchetta a firm favourite. Evening entertainment was varied and enjoyable although a brief walk to the local tavernas provided a change of scenery on occasions. The reception staff were always on hand for assistance and advice with nothing too much trouble. I have always considered the sign of a good hotel is the availability of the Manager whereupon it was pleasing to witness Ms Kemmeren regularly on hand to meet and greet guests, discuss any concerns and receive feedback for improvement. Thankyou to all the staff for a wonderful holiday and my wife and I look forward to returning in May 2022. P&G

1st visit to this hotel with another couple for a 2 week stay. Arrived very late so were told we would get a free lunch on day of departure. Hence we had already paid for our first dinner. Day of departure we were handed a paper bag at 2pm with a wrap and small cakes!!!! We felt that was a cheap way of this 4/5 star hotel in getting out of giving us a hot cooked lunch at the pool bar. Very disappointed and in other Greek hotels we have been given a proper meal. This hotel really needs to think of changing to this. A spotless clean comfortable hotel. Rooms very spacious great bed. However the open plan bathroom is not the best. Narrow bath with a shower. Should all have walk in showers! 3 pool areas and we preferred the relaxing pool due to being more sheltered. All beds taken by 8.30am as hotel was very busy for late Sept. The buffet restaurant was run very well by the hostess Julia. A credit to the hotel. Such a friendly welcoming lady. We preferred eating outside but due to the windy weather 2nd week we ate inside. Was very busy always queues to get into restaurant most nights. This is a first for us. The food is of a high standard but as other reviews say not hot enough. Such a shame. Could do with a microwave. No show cooking either and egg station did not cook your eggs fresh. All pre cooked even omelettes. Cereal selection poor. We did enjoy the pre prepared salads were delicious. Pizza and pasta also good. Great tavernas & bars around hotel. A recommendation for Kondimar superb cocktails and super friendly brothers who own it. Also the Island restaurant on beachfront food at lunch was so good and huge portions. Recommend the trip to Ag Nic, Elounda then the boat to Spinalonga. Booked through the travel company opposite the church. Also take bus to Hersonissos and visit the old town so pretty and great restaurants, We would not return to this hotel just due to the negative points I mentioned, Gouves resort not for us and hotel was mostly Europeans.

Really enjoyed our 7 night TUI holiday at The Island Hotel in September 2021 and would highly recommend this hotel. The hotel grounds were larger than we had expected but everything was done to a very high standard. Our room had a private (shared) pool which was great, however the time of year meant it was in shade in the afternoon. There were a variety of other pools to choose from and the beach is literally across the road - very handy. We preferred the relaxing pool which was situated half way towards the back of the hotel plot. It was quieter and ideal for reading. The main pool had music and a DJ but there is also an alternative (infinity) pool or the hydrotherapy pool is in a quiet little spot away from any inshore breeze as there was for 2 days during our stay. The restaurant handled the Covid19 regulations really well, issuing gloves so that you could help yourself to the buffet, there was also the requirement to wear a mask whilst in indoor public spaces. The food choice was very good, even for me, a veggie and the staff throughout the hotel, bars and restaurants are very friendly and helpful. The pool bar is a good spot for lunch and after dinner drinks, though do venture outside the main entrance as there are a few taverna's nearby. It's important to support the local economy where you can! We met a number of people who were on their third or fourth visit and one couple who were returning for the tenth time. It must be good if people keep coming back. For us it was great but we will be exploring other areas of Crete when we return to the island.

We had a really great time at this hotel and the thing that was great was how covid secure it was! We opted for a sea view room and if we ever did go again I wouldn’t go for anything else. The view was incredible. We stayed in room 216. The bed was fairly firm and it was lovely there was a bath. You can see that an interior designer has designed this, but there were some issues when it came to practicality. 1st was there is no wall between the bathroom and bedroom and the toilet door was frosted glass so if one of you went to the loo in the night the other one would get woken up. There was a blind but it wasn’t blackout so made no difference. There was also a plug next to the bed at head height which had a permanent blue glow so acted like a night light and had to stick something over it as the first night it woke me up every time I laid on that side. Im a light sleeper and I was worried about a sea view room given the road in front of the hotel however this isn’t a main road and the hotel is also on flight path which you could hear in the pool area but not inside your room even though we were on the top floor, so noise was not an issue. The buffet was good and had a reasonable selection. You had to wear a mask and gloves to select your food and all the seating was reasonably spaced and outside so it felt very secure. The lady that greeted you as you entered was great and made sure no one pushed in and kept everyone to the mask and gloves rule - thank you. The pool areas were lovely and clean and if you got bored of the pool you could go on the beach. The sun loungers are free for hotel guests on the beach. The location was ok as it had a few restaurants in front and more behind the hotel. However, most of the tourist destinations were on the other side of the island. We did hire a car and drove to the Knossos and Heraklion which was great, but if you are looking to do more I wouldn’t recommend this hotel. However, for sun bathers looking for a great adults only break, you couldn’t do better!

Just returned from our fourth wonderful holiday at The Island Hotel. Both our holidays last year were cancelled because of the pandemic and we were on tenterhooks as to whether this years holiday would go ahead. We needn’t have worried as it went ahead without any problems whatsoever. Our last visit was October 2019 and we were looking forward so much to seeing all the wonderful Team again. They are superb and second to none. On our arrival on 26th August at approx 10.45pm we were greeted by our very good friends in Reception and Nixos, who took our luggage to our room within minutes of us arriving. From the time of our arrival until 14 days later we were given the most wonderful experience of a lifetime by The Team who had become our very own ‘Cretan family’. The grounds, rooms, The Kitchen, in fact, everywhere, are spotlessly clean, with complete reassurance that COVID will not venture here! We have absolutely no hesitation in recommending The Island Hotel for a complete relaxing, safe holiday. Once again we would like to thank Management and ALL THE TEAM for giving us another ‘suntastic’ holiday to add to our memories of The Island Hotel. Looking forward to our next visit which cannot come quick enough.
