In a beautiful country and a thriving and historic town, this "hotel" does not delivery the experience of the rest of its surroundings.

Entry
it's not really a hotel so don't expect valet or bellmen to carry your luggage. There is a desk to check in. One of the guys there was incredibly friendly and helpful. The other not so.

Room
Old 70s motel like. Pillows smelled like mold. Nothing appears to have been renovated in at least 20-30 years. It's ok, but for $70 or whatever I would expect something more.

Shower
Worked and had hot water, but it wasn't consistent. Expect to be cold one second then scalded the next.

Pool
There's a great but small pool with a garden and fountain around it.

Breakfast
The including continental breakfast was a basket of bread, coffee and milk. Maybe it's technically continental but I expected more and got more from every other hotel. There is a restaurant but the room smells musty, service is slow and the food is just ok...inexpensive though.

Location
It's far from everything. It was an $8 cab ride anywhere. Wish I had stayed closer to the town square which feels about 10 minutes away.

Casino
Didn't go in but there is one.

Attractions
The Mayan ruins nearby and the Ruta de Flores are definitely worth staying in Santa Ana.

Overall stay here if you want aircon and hot water. If you want a more local experience stay closer to town.

I recently stayed at this property with a group of 20 people for 6 nights. It was located about 2 hours from SAL airport, San Salvador. The location was right off the main road, Av Indepedencia, and in the proximity of a shopping center, MetroCentro, and various food options, including Burger king, McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Pollo Campero, and Mister Dounuts, about 2.5 KM away. The hotel was generally staffed by a single receptionist who was always friendly and helpful. There was an armed guard present who was generally stationed near the entrance but made the circuit around the property sporadically. There was WIFI in the lobby area, that was able to reach my room inconsistently at the back of the property. The other hotel rooms around the main courtyard appeared a little older, with the 7 story unit at the back of the property looking somewhat newer in construction. Most rooms had a single key assignment per room, while some rooms used an electronic card key access. The hotel had various meeting rooms, which appeared to be frequently used by various local organizations and businesses. There was a dining room, but did not appear to have regular food service. Our group had a daily breakfast and two dinner services, through prior arrangement with the establishment. The food was adequate, and not particularly memorable and mostly the same each day. The Nestle coffee dispenser in the lobby was available with a cost of $.75 per small cup, that was great and the highlight of my evenings. Other than wifi and a pool, there was no real amenities available like a snack bar or gift shop. There was a counter display in the lobby for some products if a guest wanted to pick up chips, a keychain, or a sweat shirt of Father Romero, a historical hero. My room was clean and organized in the classic double queen bed, AC, TV, couch, chair, and small closet. The daily towel exchange was provided along with two bottles of water. The room was quiet and beds were moderately firm for a good night of sleep. The building elevator was small and could accommodate about 4 persons or two with luggage. Overall an adequate stay without any complaints.

For a small town like Santa Ana this is a great hotel to stay in. It has all the basic things that you need. AC, TV, hot and cold water, free wi-fi and free parking. It is very very close to the mall and fast food restaurants.

Tolteka Plaza was a welcome respite in our travel to El Salvador. We had a large group in attendance (35 people) and the hotel was excellent. Clean, modern, friendly staff, adequate rooms, and wonderful food service. The pool was beautiful and was cleaned every morning. The staff was always courteous in attending to our needs and was friendly. There was security on premises, with extra on the weekend. Easy walking distance to Wal-Mart as well as restaurants. I think it's the best that Santa Ana has to offer for your stay there!

The food at this restaurant is horrible. Not only are there limited options, the food itself is worse than fast food quality bordering on inedible. Beware the continental breakfast they serve: the milk is unpasteurized/unhomogogenized, and made us sick with nausea and diarrhea the entire duration of our stay! This 'hotel' wouldn't be so bad if they just brought in a better restaurant with higher quality food.
My bathroom also had black mold around the tub which was unsightly, and there was a cockroach in the lobby!! There is no elevator so you will have to carry all your suitcases up the stairs. Lastly, there was a loud pool party there on one of the nights which happens frequently, so bring earplugs.

This hotel provides a minimum standard of modern comforts (like a US 2 or 3 star hotel). But it's the twilight zone. The front desk guy seriously seemed "slow" (mentally) and had difficulty processing basic issues like finding our reservation or calling us a taxi. Frommer's guide says this hotel has "helpful, English-speaking staff" which is a joke on both counts. Our room in the new annex was new, but with very cheap, garish furnishings that are already worn out at the edges. The bed was comfortable however and the shower and toilet were clean. There was no WiFi. In the breakfast restaurant we ate on tablecloths dirty from the party the previous night and had to physically go and find a waiter several times. He was quite friendly but seemed to have no clue about the concept of waiting on a table, taking an order, delivering what was ordered, etc. Between him and the front desk clerk, is why I call this place the Twilight Zone. One of the guesthouses on the Ruta de las Flores or here in Santa Ana is probably a better bet.

Since there weren’t any recent reviews of Tolteka hotel located in Santa Ana El Salvador, I decided to write this review. I stayed in Tolteka for 3 nights with my wife.
Positive: A safe hotel that is guarded. Parking is adequate and safe (also guarded). The hotel is located a couple of minutes from the metro centro part of Santa Ana. The hotel serves a morning breakfast. Rooms are clean. There’s a swimming pool. A nice lobby.
Negative: Rooms are very “dated”. There’s a musty smell that the hotel tries to cover up with a spray scent. No safe, no blackout curtains. The bathroom needs a complete updating ( cracks and chipped shower area). Bed is hard, springy and not the most comfortable, just adequate. By American standards this would be a 2 star hotel at best.
Terrible breakfast. Coffee was weak, and the orange juice was stale. Hot scrambled eggs were ok. I had to go out for a better breakfast at the nearby Pizza Hut.
From my research, it seems Santa Ana doesn’t have any better places to stay, so all in all Tolteka was the “best” I found.
My recommendation would be that if you do stay here just be in your room late at night when you’re ready to go to bed, so that you don’t have to focus on the room.

If you are coming and staying overnight in Santa Ana this hotel is a decent place to stay. The "free breakfast" is a joke. But what can you expect, after all is "free". Make sure to ask for a non-smoking room. Even the non-smoking rooms kind of smell.

Definitely; this hotel is not a hotel for more than one night.
The room had a very bad smell. Internet does not work in the room. Strange noises are heard at night-it looks like a casino at the hotel. I did not wait for breakfast because of time, but from what I could read is not at all recommended. Nearby there are several dining options.
Come on, if it's the only option you have, do it ... but only for one night.

The front desk is not very much help. They are not bi-lingual. The manager was very rude, un-willing to help.
They said they had a Continental Breakfast - toast, ceral, coffee and juice -- Not a Continental breakfast. Took advantage of our group and then did not want to help. No staff in the restaurant to help you to order from menu.
I will nNEVER book another stay there again.
