I couldn't recommend Casa Frolaz more! Bruno is so friendly and helpful, he sincerely wants to make sure you have an enjoyable stay in Santa Ana. I told him the things I was interested in and he made a particular effort to find information for me, the things I did in the city were only because of Bruno's efforts! Santa Ana is a great city for a short break, particularly enjoyable if you want to break away from the usual backpacker trail, and Casa Frolaz it's a beautiful place to stay, comfortable, clean, pretty and relaxing! It's about a 20 minute walk into town but very straightforward, and Bruno will give you a little map!
I got there because a friend recommended and indeed it was an amazing place. The quietness and cleanness were the what I appreciate a lot, but mostly the people that run the place that make it feel like home. Bruno and Francisco are so knowledgeable and share the history of their country in such a nice way, while tasting the best coffee of El Salvador with good friends. Thanks a lot for he hospitality and hope to meet you again..
The family that runs the joint is great (Bruno was the guy who checked us in and gave us the run down for super markets, street markets, food of many different kinds all very close.) but they were all nice! the kitchen is great the wifi is good down stairs but works in the rooms upstairs too just slower. On top of all that hot water showers and good interesting art through out the place!
The best hostel I have stayed in so far. The only dorm room has 5 beds, its own bathroom, a spacious balkony, no bunk-beds! In addition to that there is a sweet garden and a big dining room. If you need help or advice, Bruno and Francisco can help you with anything (even city bus routes in San Salvador).
Recommended by travelers in Antigua. Was a pleasant surprise. You has no idea what beautiful is that place till you are there. Airy and spacious dormitory room, has a big, clean bathroom within. A beautiful garden surrounded by plants, flowers and birds. You can appreciate local painters works on the walls. Great location, near of supermarkets and convenient bus stop. Few blocks from stadium. We really enjoyed our nights at Casa Frolaz. You Must visit that place.
We found this place in Lonely Planet & Rough Guides, had a lovely 3 night stay. We had the dorm to ourselves, it was simple & clean, with a huge bathroom & a huge balcony, which we enjoyed hanging out in. The hot shower had excellent water pressure, which is always a plus for me. It's located outside the city centre, we felt very safe here & comfortable walking out in the evening for dinner. Downtown Santa Ana is a 20 minute walk away or take buses 51F or C. The rooms are on the 2nd floor, there's a restaurant on the first floor - apparently its one of only a handful in town, we didn't eat there but it looked like a good menu if you feel like treating yourself. There's a wonderful garden outside, which felt like an oasis, my favourite part of our whole stay in Santa Ana. There's a professional coffee machine you can use as well as the restaurant kitchen (there are 2 ovens). The wifi was very strong in the dorm & throughout the hostel. Casa Frolaz is a great reflection of its owner, Francisco. He's very friendly, ever-smiling & always had time to chat. He offered us advice of places to visit & eat, as well as bus connections to the Volcano park. We felt very comfortable here, a home away from home!…
We stayed here 3 nights in the dorm. Francisco waa very attentive, helpful and friendly (as was his brother) and it was good value compared to the other major hostel everyone raves about in Santa Ana... The area is quiet and feels safe, there's a supermarket 10 minutes away, the city centre is a 20 minute walk or you can easily take a bus. There's a big, well equipped kitchen which we used every night. It's quirky with all the artwork around the house. There's a nice garden and terrace. The toilet was clean and the shower was hot. There's free access the pila for hand washing clothes, and sufficient hanging space on the terrace. The restaurant is open to the public so even though we were welcome to use the area to eat, it was the only common area for using wifi/hanging out so we felt a bit uncomfortable being backpackers in a restaurant environment. A plus of this is we could eat a meal that we had cooked ourselves but it felt like we had gone out for dinner! The kitchen could do with a clean and there's an ant problem in the dorm (both easily rectified). I would definitely recommend this place though! …
We stayed here for two nights in April 2015. The best thing about the place is Fransisco and Bruno, the guys running it, who were very helpful. They gave us tips on the local area and directions to the bus station for going by to the Parque Nacional de Volcanes. For us, the location was OK as we only came to Santa Ana to visit the national park, however if you wanted to explore Santa Ana a bit more it may be better to stay in the centre. The room was huge, with ensuite and double bed for $25. It was beautifully decorated with original artwork and had a fan & TV. Plus you could use the kitchen and there is a huge supermarket only 10mins walk away.
I stayed at Casa Frolaz for 3 nights from 12-14 Feb 2015. I stayed in the 4-person dorm, and I was the only person in the room during the period of my stay. Therefore, I have sufficient privacy and quietness by paying just USD8 per night. To me, it's kind of weird that there is a double bed in the 4-person dorm. There is a balcony where u can wash & hang your clothes. Due to the place being very windy, you can wash your clothes tonight and they will be dry on the next morning. Had some problems with the shower but they fixed it quick enough (else the super hot water would have "cooked" me). Downstairs is a restaurant. They had a very good business on the Valentine's Day. Smell of nice food kept coming to me :P You can cook at their kitchen, but maybe it's the best to cook when the restaurant started to be busy. It's very close to the Colon Market and INSA (where u can wait for the TUDO bus to San Salvador). I'm glad I chose to stay here. Francisco has been very helpful and other staff (of the restaurant) are very friendly. I slept very well here. Meanwhile, it's about 20 mins walk to the city center. Nearby the area you can easily find cheap food.…
My boyfriend and I stayed here for 7 nights (was supposed to be only 5 nights) and we had an awesome experience! Fransisco and Bruno were so helpful and caring with everything. We are vegans so we used the kitchen to cook our dinners and it was no problem at all! They were sometimes there to chat with us and always asked us how our days went and more! They can both speak great english. One night Fransisco took us on a bike ride with other locals and it was one of our favorite experiences here in Central America! The rooms are big and clean and it's very quiet as there are only 2 rooms in the whole place! The back garden is also a great place to chill and relax. Really I cannot speak about this place enough! If you don't stay here you are missing out.
