If you plan on arriving late due to a late train/flight be aware there is no 24hour concierge service. We arrived to find the door locked despite emailing our flight landed at 11:30pm and we’d arrive around midnight. We then called the hotel; a rude gentlemen awoke to let us in and told us he would then lock the door after so we couldn’t leave. We hadn’t eaten for several hours and had no water so I had to plead in order to go to the takeaway opposite just to get some pasta and water. The room though was pleasant and clean although the crossfit gym next door plays incredibly loud bass music from the early hours. The next morning I was then rudely greeted with give me your passport. No greeting... no how was your stay? Safe to say I will never return and urge others to spend their money elsewhere.

The hotel was located in a perfect location for us. About 15 -20 minute drive from the airport. We needed to stay overnight before our drive to the Amalfi coast. Especially helpful was parking was available. Also, walking distance to the Tiber River and all the restaurants along the river walk. The staff was helpful and accommodating. Not fancy, but clean and adequate. Breakfast was decent.

The only reasons to stay at the Academy Hotel are that it's (1) close to Leonardo Da Vinci airport (barely 4 km away), and (2) cheap -- wonderfully inexpensive. Oh, I guess it's also very convenient if you want to explore Ostia Antica or the Port of Trajan archaelogical zone, which are very close at hand, but I don't have the impression that's what's bringing guests here. Most people come here for a one-night stay to be close to the airport for a morning flight. I was actually here for two nights, as cascading coronavirus cancellations eliminated one onward booking after another. The multinational staff -- depending on the time of day, either Italian, Spanish, or West African -- was unfailingly friendly and helpful. There are good public transportation connections between Fiumicino town (the stoop is a 4-minute walk from Academy Hotel) and the airport and onward to Rome (one stop near the Vatican, on the west side of the historic center, and the final stop at Termini railway station on the east side). The rooms are modest in size, adequately appointed, with decent Wi-Fi connections. In the evenings I preferred to take my laptop to the little breakfast room, where I could feel less claustrophobic and spread my papers around. Oh -- I said cheap. Does $39 a night not seem like a bargain? I thought so. Hence my rating of very good: the value for money here is excellent, even if the accommodations otherwise are decent but basic.

Hotel is relatively close to the airport. Just be wary of early morning commuter traffic. Location is the perfect place to stay if you’re flying out of FCO. Overall, hotel is clean and comfortable, but nothing too special. Rooms are fairly priced and reasonable. Staff was adequate. From what we experienced, hotel does not have an elevator, but they offer luggage lift. Parking is on the small side.
