My wife and l had lunch and subsequently dinner for my wife's birthday and we had lovely service and dined, delightfully! We were taken care of by a number of staff, but particularly by Noemi, with whom l had made the surprise arrangements, so thank you, we will never forget this occasion!

Stayed here on half-board just over a week ago & had lovely time. The characterful & quirky historical feel of the hotel & gardens just suited us and generally we found the staff very friendly and warm. My bed was huge & so comfortable. Breakfasts were copious & delicious with huge choice. I greatly enjoyed my dinners too.

It has taken me months to begin to write my review firstly because Alcaufar Vell lied and led me to believe I would be compensated and secondly because we have been so upset. In August 2021 we booked my daughters wedding at Alcaufar Vell. We have a home in S'Algar and the venue is dear to us as a family. My late husband (the brides father) loved it here. Pep the wedding co ordinator was very disorganised but we know Menorca and the laid back attitude. We pushed to pay the deposit and sent over thirty emails. Pep replied saying not to worry he was preparing a quote which would be sent after October. We repeatedly asked to book rooms for the guests and we were ignored. Yes there were alarm bells but my daughter wanted to have her wedding here. In September I went back out to Menorca and called with our wedding planner at the venue which was in a state of repair. There was even a dead rat on the restaurant floor. We raised concerns and were told there was work to be done over the winter. Pep continued to ignore emails through the Winter. The invites were sent out and preparations were under way. In May I was in Menorca and asked Pep if we could finalise the menu and go for a meal. He told me they were fully booked! I rang and was told they only had two bookings for that night so I booked in. The hotel looked a little fresher. At this point we had still not been given the quote or deposit price to pay despite over 30 emails. In June I paid the deposit and asked to clarify the menu. Two days later I received an email cancelling the wedding! This was six weeks before the date! I had to fly out to Menorca to sort another venue and I had one choice! No one wanted a booking in July. Club Menorca came up trumps and was totally amazing. However I was thousands out of pocket as the new venue was thirty minutes away I had to book coaches, cars etc. My florist pulled out as she couldn't manage the steps at the new venue costing me thousands. The list is endless as to the hassles I had. Alcaufar Vell had their solicitor contact me and offer compensation. We met him in July and he literally called me a liar and reduced me to tears, However it looked as though Alcaufar Vell were going to pay my costs until in October we had an email to say they would pay nothing. They ruined my daughters wedding for me. and cost me dearly. Club Menorca rescued us and it could not have been better but what Alcaufar Vell did was unforgivable and I ask people to consider before they book as these vile people just do not care!

We arrived here for 4 nights and having looked around were profoundly disappointed. The grounds are neglected and the building in a state of disrepair. The lawns are all unmown and there are weeds everywhere - the pool area grass is uncut with some old stained plastic furniture scattered around . The welcome was far from effusive and the place felt sad - very few guests and a real down at heel atmosphere. I cancelled and rather than receive an apology or request for explanation I received simply an acknowledgement. No idea what is going on here but it feels like it’s going out of business.

Spacious rooms in either the old house or converted farm buildings Extensive grounds with great walk down to the coast and village . Pleasant helpful staff . But probably one of the worse breakfasts we have ever had in a hotel of this quality. So called "fresh"breakfast at 13 Euro consisted of a couple of small slices of stale bread plus some unripe fruit and a slice of cheese. The evening meals were also disappointing and were either overcooked or so raw that we rejected it. Should do better !!

We came here for our honeymoon at the end of September and had an absolutely lovely stay. The hotel grounds are beautiful, quiet, surrounded by nature, and well-kept. Our room was very spacious and comfortable. They restock the mini-bar (which is complimentary) daily, and we found everything we needed in the toiletries and other amenities. The Wifi was slow (still enough to send messages/emails), but we found this to be a welcome invitation to disconnect for a few days. The breakfast options were simple but delicious, fresh, and filling. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant twice and enjoyed our meals. The dining room is rustic and charming, and the food is great but perhaps not something I would drive all the way to the hotel if I weren't already staying there. I did have one of the best espresso martinis ever. All in all, we had a wonderful, relaxing, and rejuvenating time at the hotel here and would definitely come back next time.

I am going to echo a recent review. This place could be fantastic. The hotel is beautiful, the setting is stunning, the rooms are spacious and with a huge bed. But, the WiFi is appalling. We briefly got connected once in 4 days - how is that possible in this day and age? The breakfast is very, very plain just being bread and jam and a croissant. And it would be lovely to sit outside to eat breakfast apart from the plague of wasps. We had a lovely and amazing few days on the island & did enjoy the hotel but it really could be better with some simple improvement.

This place is a paradox. It’s in a beautiful setting, the staff are delightful but it’s very expensive so you expect a lot for your money - and the management just doesn’t deliver it. There is evidence of parsimony and penny pinching everywhere. Starting with: Wi-Fi. It never worked. For any of us. Anywhere. For three days!. I know that many hotels have slow, bad Wi-Fi connections (Why is that?) but this service was completely unusable. Broadband is cheap and readily available across Menorca. Spend a few Euros management, and get it fixed. Toiletries. Don’t put the almost empty shampoo bottles back, replace them. Banging shutters and doors . It can be windy in Minorca and loose fitting doors and unsecured shutters get noisy at night. Do you know any carpenters? Restaurant. Do you have any chefs? Everything at dinner looked like it came straight out of a sous vide or microwave. There is no breakfast buffet and the standard breakfast is basically bread and jam. Want an egg? That will be extra! Even simple things like the Pan Con Tomate you get everywhere across the island was the budget version. Instead of the warm toasted ciabatta with blended tomatoes, garlic and olive oil you get a piece of cold white bread and a tomato! I almost laughed out loud. It’s a shame. This place could be really special and it almost succeeds but for 200-250 Euro a night you expect - and will find - a lot better.

The old house full of history, the surroundings, the peace & quietness, Rosa's kindness... luckily they all remain the same. On this occasion I had the chance to stay in one of the unique Suites in the main building. It has a private viewpoint from which you can enjoy the incredible landscape around Alcaufar, the sea of the south coast of the island and looking towards the north you can even sense MonteToro, the highest mountain in Menorca. You could feel what our ancestors might have felt when they sheltered in this tower and watched if any enemies were invading the island. This is what I call a real privileged experience! I had dinner in the restaurant and both the food and the service were amazing. Nashua & Aina, the two kind waitresses looked after us in a discreet and very professional way. The menu offers a wide range of appealing suggestions for any palate. I eat no meat and I did not know what to choose from, I felt like trying so many different dishes! Those that I tried were finely presented. The wines proposed are well selected local and Spanish references, you will enjoy any of them. Breakfast served in the patio is a luxury treat on a sunny spring day, of course thanks to the setting but also thanks to Noemi. Thank you AlcaufarVell for an unforgettable 16 hours relaxing escape!

We were booked into the hotel on a half board basis as part of a cycling trip. I had some trepidation, having read some of the scathing reviews. It wasn’t the warmest welcome and we were asked to write down our credit card details on a piece of paper along with exp date and 3 digit security code. Given that we had already paid in full in advance I found this odd and I declined to do this. In 2021 really not sure why you would ask a guest to write these details on a piece of paper?! The room was nice, bed was huge with a feather and a memory foam pillow. Complementary mini bar was well received. Bathroom was large with a hydro bath. However no shower screen meant that showering flooded the entire floor. There were bits of mould in the bathroom which need to be cleaned and isn’t acceptable. There are some public areas although nowhere you’d want to sit. In fact you can’t sit as there are no chairs and the spaces are almost like museum rooms as someone pointed out in another review. Unclear what these rooms were for. In fact I would have been interested to have found out more about the building’s history and these rooms would be a good opportunity to showcase this. The restaurant food is very good, however the kitchen clearly struggles to get food out in a reasonable time frame. Diners were regularly expected to wait about half an hour before even getting menus. Service from the waitresses was friendly and helpful. However I wouldn’t like to be attempting to eat here while there is a wedding going on! My tip would be if you want to eat at 8pm get there at 7:30. We had the “full breakfast” option which was huge and varied. One bugbear was the awful music playing nonstop in the restaurant. I can only describe this as slowed down samba versions of 80s pop and it is execrable. I noticed similar music at other establishments and wondered if they are subscribed to a digital service?!
