I stop through this camp once a month as we tour the whole of NZ and this is one of my favorite camps to come to ! Riza and her husband are always so friendly and accommodating to our large groups . The facilities are unique and true kiwi style camping . Some of these negative reviews seems like people...

It was a last minute booking because of the weather, clean, simple and basic, could do with an overhaul but with the low cost and friendly staff it was different. Ideally for the backpacking fraternity who want no frills and somewhere to get clean.

I stayed one night in one of the Holiday Park's little cabins. Up near the mountains a good sleeping bag was essential, but the facilities were close to the hut and clean (under renovation) and the night sky unbelievable. A well equipped kitchen allowed for great guest interaction when cooking dinner or making breakfast. The night I stayed there were...

Great location particularly if want to walk the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. Nice campsite, plenty of room between camper van sites allowing some privacy. Toilet/shower facilities need modernising but clean.

What a dump, but nothing that a bulldozer couldn’t fix. Pictures on the web site aren’t anything like the state on the cabins, rotten boards on the outside, holes in the interior walls, beds that probably came from the second world war and ants galore. You could use the toilets and showers at your own risk, I wasn’t game enough....

Thanks for your review it was not built in the second world war but close. . The shower and facility are clean and in working conditions . The native insects and ants are living in harmony in your park.As we are a eco friendly establishment.

Riza and Albert have done a fantastic job since taking over to give the holiday park a good facelift. The cabins are basic, but very comfortable and have everything that is needed. The kitchen facilities are clean and well stocked. We look forward to returning next year

Cabins are old and run down. Wire beds, one bar heater. 2 toilets in the gents to service how many people? Showers had no hot water. What's more, when I arrived the proprietor was having an argument with two paying guests. She was soooo rude, and eventually took them out onto the verandah to give them a 'telling off'!! I...

OMG - You've got to be kidding! I really try to be fair and look for the positives with my reviews. (See my other reviews for evidence). I've been in NZ for a month now, and this is the first time I've felt completely ripped off. $70+ for two people in a cabin without paint and two wire frame cots...

We stayed in a two person cabin, they're small but cozy and comfortable and includes a nice heater. The toilets were alright but not great (this being the smaller block of toilets as these were the only facilities we used) The holiday park is close enough to town that we could walk everywhere which was good. Overall it was a...

The Park has clean Kitchen, toilet, shower and huge open area which is very good for kids riding bicycles or running around. Very friendly and helpful manager assisting us to change or cancel our booking. Even got a flyfishing training thrown in for free from her son!

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
This is a historical campground. The original base for the 1950s power project, it was once home to hundreds of Italian workers who were involved in what was then the biggest engineering project in New Zealand. For the casual camper looking for a quiet spot away from the main road, here you'll find large, individually-hedged sites with plenty of lovely shady trees, each having a tap and a picnic table. Older-style, well-scrubbed amenities include a basic kitchen with lots of pans, crockery and cookware, ablutions with free curtained showers, a coin operated laundry, and a drying room available for a small charge. The covered deck off the kitchen is a beautiful spot to sit and eat your meal, and you can use the fish cleaning sink and outdoor BBQ s to cook up your catch of the day. Too tired to cook? Town is within walking distance for a takeaway or a meal. Working towards being an Eco friendly camp ground, there are ample recycling stations, a bin in the kitchen for your organic waste that goes to the worm farm, and a herb garden is also being established by the kitchen. Children have a couple of small play areas and plenty of room to run about, while on rainy days there is a large games room and guest lounge. Internet access and a dump station are also provided, and your dogs are welcome but by arrangement please. Charges are from $22 per person, children 5-14 from $10, and under five are free. Our cabins is very basic and have a bottom sheet, pillow and pillow cases. You need to bring your own bedding. You also need to use the communal kitchen and bathrooms. From $55 per cabin. Our Family cabin has a TV, fridge, small kitchenette with its own crockery and cutlery. You need to share the bathroom and kitchen with the other guests.Bring own linen. From $75 per cabin. Self-contained unit is beautiful and is our own mansion. From $120 per cabin. ... more   less
