This is a decent hostel- it has a nice beach, café with healthy food, covered outdoor seating area/ library (where they have a movie night and outdoor showers. Accommodation ranges from dorms, private cabanas with bathrooms, which looked nice, but not luxurious, or swinging double beds with mosquito nets (covered) under the stars (recommended). It was great to wake up...

Mazunte is a magical place, but not any kind of accommodation can do justice to this beautiful setting. Posada del Arquitecto is doing exactly this. Let me start with my favorite thing about this place: the "estrellas", that is, the hanging bed. For any traveler with a bit of sense of adventure, this is the way to go. These beds...

Posada del Arquitecto is a solid restaurant. It has very nice view on the ocean. The food itself was very solid (shrimps). The biggest upset is the service. They are slow, and you have to order food or drink at the bar, but if you just sit behind the table, no one would come.

This place is amazing!!! People is friendly, the location is perfect right on the beach, breakfast is delicious (they have stunning chilaquiles and omelettes) and have a wonderful decoration and vibe. You can find many restaurants around and of course one of the nicest sunsets in the world!

La posada is located in a perfect spot, with a great view from every single place in the hotel and the atmosphere is amazing. Really relaxed place, with a great bar just on top of the beach, where the food is nice. The rooms vary, since some rooms are amazing, but you also have las estrellas, a hanging bed on...

Very basic, no screens in some rooms. I was bitten to death. Ingenious layout...not bad if you get a room close to the reception area and restaurant. Otherwise you need to be a goat to get to other rooms. Still, this is very popular with those in their 20,s. Restaurant has a lovely view of the sea.

So me and my friend slept at Arquitecto for a couple of nights. We opt for the Estrella-beds which is the hanging beds on top of the hill. The view was magnificent, the beds alright. The mattresses are very thin and some of the beds don't have any breeze. Which means that, in the Mexican heat - it can be...

They have floating beds on the roof that let you swing in the wind and listen to the waves at night. Apart from that, there is a basic shared shower, and regular dorm beds which are medeocre. The lockers are usually full, and the security is only for show. It's on the edge of the beach, and in a prime...

Even in low season I had to come two days in a row to score a place in their dorms since they don't take bookings. I was a bit disappointed with how basic it was: in case you want sheets you need to pay extra, the mattresses are super thin and there's no ladder or anything to get to the...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Posada del Arquitecto was born in the early 90s, when Mazunte was still a wild, virtually uninhabited beach. There were no access roads at that time. In 1989, Guido, the Architect, who was already familiar with this stretch of the Oaxacan coast, discovered an amazing spot lost in time, Mazunte, where he fell in love with this virgin beach and decided to build himself a house. Many friends from around the world wanted to visit this incredible place, and soon they began to show up. Inhabitable accommodations were required for their comfort. Thus began the evolution, almost spontaneously, of the Posada, starting with a few rustic palapas and cabanas that were built with local natural materials, experimenting with the principles of bio-architecture, while discovering, adapting, and developing the traditional construction techniques in this region - an entertaining and fascinating game for an architect. In 1997, Hurricane Paulina caused severe damage in this part of Mexico, destroying much of the Posada and necessitating repairs and reconstruction. The first cabanas were thus transformed into more solid, safe and comfortable structures, while preserving the minimalist style that utilizes the area's natural, living materials. The overgrown hill that was the setting for the Posada's earliest rustic palapas gradually became a garden. With the passage of time and the collaboration of old and new allies, the Posada del Arquitecto has become less spartan and much more comfortable, without losing the relaxed spirit of a big home where friends are always welcome. We keep striving to respect our surroundings, which is why the cabanas are built in harmony with the original natural elements of this place. Please help us to protect and preserve the living plants and animals you encounter during your stay. Today the Posada del Arquitecto offers its guests/friends a multifaceted experience, including yoga, massage, an impressive view of the bay from the cabanas, and free Wi-Fi connections. The beach is so close that the rhythm of breaking waves will become the soundtrack for your stay.We hope that you enjoy your time with us. ... more   less
