In the middle of nowhere but that’s all part of the charm of it. Check in at the bar upstairs in the main building. We had a huge room with three single beds and one double, good heaters, microwave, kettle, fridge etc. Small balcony with views across the river bed towards the mountains. There is a one legged Kia that...

We had luckily only booked one night here. At first we were blown away by the location and the views. Our reception when we checked in was perfunctory, no word of welcome or explanation, the cabin on the surface looked good. We paid $180 for the night so were surprised by the budget feel of the place. Our cabin would...

We were on a fast comprehensive New Zealand tour and stayed here as we traversed the mountain range. Excellent. We had our own cabin and the views were spectacular. The managers/owners were the nicest people-especially the lady who introduced me to Settlers Hill Chardonnay and then gave me a long handled spoon of butter to feed the Kea-a large parrot...

Let's start with the positives: very friendly staff members, who were helpful with liaising bookings when I made a mistake about the date, and gave us complimentary internet vouchers. Comfy, sturdy bed. Bathrooms acceptable. Parking was fine. Negatives: We stayed in the Moa Lodge. It was confusingly laid out with a lack of signs to show people where to go....

On the plus side there's a superb view; the food in the restaurant is good and the owner is friendly. BUT the room was the standard of a $50 motel with nowhere to sit and watch TV, virtually no kitchen facilities, doors and windows that were worn out and worked with difficulty. The business is for sale and it shows.

Now let's be clear. You want to stay here for the amazing scenery, the isolation and the feeling of being in the wilderness. If you are looking for 5* luxury and fine dining then keep going. Good basic accommodation in the cabin we stayed in, Wifi available at a small charge. Friendly staff and acceptable food.

Not the most salubrious of establishments - basic but very clean, had all the amenities required and was inexpensive. Only stayed one night whilst travelling through Arthurs Pass but would have stayed for longer if needed. Hosts very friendly and welcoming. Do eat in the bar/restaurant - evening meal was absolutely fabulous (have eaten in 5 star and expensive! restaurants...

We had no bookings travelling through Arthurs Pass. In the village itself everything was booked out so we had no choice than to travel on towards the east coast. We stopped at the Bealey and they had a few rooms available. Surprisingly i should say as the location and views are superb. We got a studio with views over the...

We spent two nights in the shared-facilities accommodation as the cabins were booked out. The rooms were spartan and small, but clean and cosy. The shared facilities were not so well-designed or maintained, with only two combined shower/toilets rooms, (one missing locks), and frequent running out of toilet paper and washing liquid. The food however was excellent and value.
