Great location and view. Excellently organised kitchen (with all the cutlery, pans etc you need and gas stoves). Good lounge and beds with warm covers. Great showers. Small food shop (limited breakfast available). Otherwise Twizel (56 km away) has a 4 square. Older travelers welcomed, there's no young set snobbery. They can book all scenic flights etc. Jono on reception... More

Stayed here for one night. The hostel has all the facilities you would expect and is clean and has a few common rooms. We had a double room which was a decent size, however a couple of things that let this place down are the small beds and the upstairs shower which has very low water pressure (can't comment on... Hi Kanabara, Thanks for your positive review. We’re happy you enjoyed your stay. We agree that we have a great hostel and we work hard to make sure it is always clean. Thanks for your feedback about the beds and shower pressure. We’ll take a look at the beds and see if we can fit a queen size bed rather... More

With limited options for accommodation in this village, the YHA is ideal if you don't mind sharing. A cosy cabin like structure with good amenities including a well equipped kitchen, dining area and lounge. Only downside is they don't offer private rooms, only dorms.

Hi Sarah, Thanks for your taking the time to leave us a review. We’re pleased we do offer great amenities to our guests, including private rooms! We have a selection of private rooms to book but these often fill up in our busy summer season. It's best to always book ahead to avoid missing out! Best regards, Jason Neave Hostel... More

1. Very homely environment 2. I'm not a typical backpacker, but I still found YHA very clean and had a pleasant experience 3. Free wifi 4. Quite a nice location, though not the best. If you're walking, it's about 5 minutes further away from the hiking spots, but that's insignificant distance when compared to the hike itself 5. It's safe,... More

Nice and clean accommodation for a very affordable cost. Common kitchen and clean toilets and showers. They rent bikes and organize excursions too. The people working there are very nice and were very helpful with questions and issues. Free parking available.

We came with a group of 4 and stayed in the private room. The wooden hostel is very beautiful with great view of Mt. Cook in the dining area. The shower room with hot shower is very relaxing, and the bed is clean and comfortable. The kitchen is big with many utilities and and stoves. However, the cleaning time for... More

Although accommodation choices are pretty limited at Mount Cook, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Could not fault a thing about the lovely view! Kitchen is large and plenty of space for everyone. There are multiple stoves available for use, a plus with not having to wait around taking turns to cook over meal times.Toilets are clean and staff are... More

There aren't many accommodation options in Mt Cook Village. This must be the cheapest by a long shot. We found it very noisy - between rooms, between our room and the toilet, and generally. As its made out of wood, there's a lot of creaks!

Hello Canberra_pair Thanks for your review. We’re glad you found our hostel to be good value. However, we were sorry to hear that your experience of our hostel was disturbed by the noise of the building. Wooden buildings generally flex, creak and can have poor noise insulation and we are talking with our properties team to see if there is... More

We stayed 1 night at the YHA Mt. Cook location, and it was a great, pleasant stay. Prices are decent (we booked a private room) for the area, and parking was very easy. Washrooms were clean, and the kitchen area was large --- definitely enough for several parties to be working at the same time. Wifi was free, and excellent.

It is facing Mount Cook and near Hooper Valley Track where a lot of hikers would like to go for a 4 HR walk on this trial. The hostel is well equipped with all facilities, especially the big kitchen. The hermitage hotel is just at the back of the hostel. Try going there for afternoon tea. $5 For 2 pies... More
