We recently spent a week on the Gold Coast, finally able to get out of Canberra for a decent family holiday. Our first stop was the Mercure for four days before moving closer to the coast, and we could not have been happier with everything the hotel had to offer. Our clean and spacious rooms overlooked the Palm Meadows golf course, providing a sense of being in the embrace of a tranquil oasis. Because the sun rises earlier in Queensland than our home in Canberra in the summer, and I am an early riser, I took a few pre-breakfast strolls around the holes nearest the hotel as dawn was breaking, fishing for balls in the course waterways and stopping occasionally to watch the marine, air and ground wildlife blissfully go about their important business. My wife, and two teenage children are rarely up so early but they also enjoyed sitting on the balcony during the day to watch the golfers or just absorb the serenity. The highlight of our stay was definitely the daily breakfast buffet, which provided for every taste, sweet or savoury, in plentiful quantities, enough to satisfy hunger for the rest of the day if you so chose. Every morning our daughter would message my wife and I from her room, ‘Breakfast?’, and the three of us would meet to start the day. Our 16 yo son wasn’t quite so enthusiastic because (a) he only gets up early if he absolutely has to and (b) he’s not a breakfast person! I would have already been to the restaurant for a couple of early coffees from the coffee machine by the time my wife and daughter joined me, a chance to contemplate the coming day and catch up on the overnight news. Whether on breakfast duty, at reception or throughout other areas of the hotel, the staff were accommodating, efficient and polite. They made our stay uncomplicated and easy to manage. As well as the excellent rooms and sumptuous food, the hotel pool and fitness centre cater for those who just want to relax or need an adrenalin hit. The pool is spacious and the water was crystal clear during our stay, while the gym has a good range of cardio and weights machines and free weights. For golfers, the Palm Meadows championship course effectively surrounds the hotel. My son and I played a round during the stay and were both throughly challenged by the layout. I even fulfilled my promise to him that we could ride a cart instead of walking. Under the Queensland sun walking 18 holes is a challenge even for even a fit young athlete like my son, and definitely for someone like me who is not quite as fit as he used to be in his sporting prime. Overall, our stay at the Mercure was the perfect beginning of our Queensland odyssey and we would definitely stay there again.

Room was awesomely clean and neat and the staff were fantastic. Beds were ssooo comfortable. Plenty of parking. Would come back because of this. Food was very average. I expected better from such a nice hotel. Breakfast Buffet had great variety but wasn't very tasty. Wouldn't have had breakfast the 2nd day if I hadn't pre paid. The first evening I was by myself, so got a pizza to takeaway (not particularly a gourmet choice I know) I would have been better with a take away franchise or oven pizza, it had no toppings and was soft (almost soggy) and tasteless. Would have had dinner the 2nd night, but the menu and pizza put me off. Watched other food come out of the kitchen, while waiting for my take away, none of which look particularly appetising. I'm local, but my friend was from out of town. Part of the reason choosing this hotel was because it had a restaurant, and we wouldn't have to elsewhere. Restaurant had no ambience either.

Even though one of the busiest times of the year 27 to 31 DECEMBER 2021 and still with ‘COVID’ restrictions, my wife & I were very pleasantly surprised in Room 4312 by the relaxed atmosphere and very friendly and helpful staff throughout the resort. Special mentions and recognitions should go to the following staff…….DARION and SOPHIE on Reception, AVIKA in Admin., LAIKAN and MITCHELL in the Bar & Restaurant, and especially AYMERIC aussi qui etait magnifique, and NOT forgetting MAX and his Buggy and Luggage Handling. MAX offers a truly “NOTHING is TOO MUCH” service and was so good one morning at dealing with our 3 and a half years old eldest Grandson, also called Max, by taking him on a personal guided tour of the resort in MAX’s BUGGY. My wife & I are seasoned ‘Accor Premier Vacation Club (APVC) Members’ too and we were fortunate enough to view one of the Club Apartments which we will definitely stay in next time soon. The Restaurant produced excellent Breakfasts and Dinners thought our 4 night stay too. Finally, whilst not the newest resort on the Gold Coast, this Resort certainly has a relaxed tropical atmosphere and is centrally located next to a golf course, and all the nearby beaches are in very quick and easy reach. You have a great team working with you Mr. NEIL SCANLAN (GM). Hopefully next time we can meet you too and congratulate you on the “smooth running” of such an establishment, especially during “Peak and ‘Covid’ ridden Seasons”. Sante et a bientot ! ANDY FISHER

We love staying out of Surfers Paradise - and Mercure was a great choice in the Gold Coast. Whilst it's outside the hustle and bustle it still has a lot to offer. We enjoyed the pool, spa, hotel bar and takeaway options. We only stayed one night but the beds were very comfortable and the staff were so lovely and accommodating. The only thing I will flag is there are no elevators if you are staying on say the 2nd or 3rd floor this might be an issue (we were fine with it). You will definitely need a car to stay here if you want to see the sights - they have free underground parking. Whilst it may not be a new hotel we felt it good value for what we paid in peak season. We enjoyed the balcony with garden views.

Our Christmas @ Mercure Gold Coast was great, we were made very welcome with a special welcome card and treats from the Manager. Our requested room was very spacious with a balcony overlooking the golf course. The large pool in this resort had new outdoor furniture all around. We really enjoyed the Christmas Breakfast, with some lovely touches. Great Nespresso coffee machine. Back soon.
