Within an hour of checking in to my room(# 13 !!) at this centrally located old, attractive but grubby hotel my room which I had locked with MY OWN PADLOCK had been entered and 3,500 rupees(~~$53.00) stolen from my briefcase. I reported it the next day to the Grand Bazaar police station and that evening 1,700 of those same rupees in...

I arrived around 11 in the evening & as I was checking in, a huge rat scurried across the man sleeping on the floor in the front hall (Maybe he was staff?). I went to my room to find that the bathroom looked like it was from a horror movie. The windows are barred & open to the air which...

We arrived in Pondicherry on Pongal Saturday and so faced with nowhere else to stay ended up in the Raj Lodge. It wasn't a pleasant experience. The room hadn't been cleaned before so there was rubbish including cigarette butts in the toilet and used toiletries in the room. The other guests were all male, there didn't seem to be any...

Raj hotel is a average to decent place to stay. But quite good for the money you pay. The rooms are dingy and very cheap motel-ish. However, the beds are soft, there is running water, lights, etc. But we really appreciated that them giving us brand new sheets, a trash can, and bought fresh soap when asked. And the people...

We went to this place as it was late at night and we were desperate. In honesty, there are some good things going for it - it's cheap as chips and ideally located, if you're the kind of person who likes to stay in the center of the bar area. The staff were kind and the place was safe. However,...

Rats roamed the halls as if it were there Kingdom. Naked men displayed themselves to us. A scent of urine lingered in the air. A prostitute propositioned us violently and aggressively. Very bad do not stay here. Although it's cheap you can find somewhere where the doors actually lock and there aren't random men sleeping outside your door.

Comparing with some others hostels this was the worst ever and was not so cheap. They also don't provide towels. It is really durty and smelly. Some staff are really bad, looks like they don't care about you.

I sent requisition for booking room at this lodge. There was no response to my mail. They didn't bother to send any reply or call me. Then when I rang up to them, they said rooms are available. No problem. Come directly. When I landed there, they said A/c ROOMS ARE NOT AT ALL AVAILABLE IN OUR LODGE and all...

This is a great budget place in pondicherry. The rates are superb and you even get a tv. Close to some fantastic eateries and coffee houses. The staff are very kind and helpful. The bedding is a little worn and they have a generator. Full power.

“When traveling in India i think it would be wise to bring a blow up mattress with you. Carry a sleeping sheet bag. You can buy in India or have one made there buy one before leaving. They all sleep on hard mattresses. Even in their homes as we Couch Surfed our thru India at times we seen how they live in thier homes too.Same bathrooms and hard mattreses are standard..”
