We stayed in the hideaway cottage which was setup snugly in the bushes. The common facilities are excellent and they do have a kitchen which packs essential stuff (not free; but with reasonable donations). The beach is just a 10 minute walk away and is an excellent place to spend an evening (beware of sandflies though). The pancake rocks are...

If you visit pancake rocks, I highly recommend staying at Te Nikau retreat. It's a peaceful place set amongst the native bush very close to the beach. Such an idealic setting in such a quiet/peaceful place. Unfortunately we missed out on a cabin with a bathroom however our little cottage was warm and comfortable. The kitchen and common areas are...

I wonderful feel about the houses. They were all separated and each very different from the others. Set up was excellent. Roomy, private and surrounded by rainforest and ocean. A place you must experience.

We have been on the road now for over 5 months and Te Nikau will be one of our most memorable stays for several reasons. The location is absolutely stunning, in the middle of a forest but short walk to one of the most breathtaking beaches I have ever seen. The houses are clean, cosy & have great communal areas....

We had one night booked in the Tui room, but decided to head there a day early and it wasn't available so we switched to the new room that's above Mamuka Cottage (I can't remember the name now) for 2 nights. So glad we both extended our stay and switched to a room with a view! The studio exceeded expectations,...

What a spectacular place to rest & use as a temporary 'home base' to explore the Punakaiki coastline from! Truman Track is a 'must do' while visiting here & is an easily accessible way to experience the delightful beach just below the venue. A wide range of prices offers comfortable accommodation options for the budget conscious to low levels of...

Really enjoyed my one day and night at the Te Nikau retreat. The place is seperated into a number of self contained houses scattered very privately throughout the rainforest. Not like any place I had stayed before. It is a short walk from a beach to chill out and enjoy the sunset (no swimming, though). And as a bonus, all...

This was our 3rd accommodation during our 2 month NZ road trip. We stayed for 3 nights. Te Nikau is quite a unique place and your experience depends on which unit you pick. Mamaku Cottage is a self contained unit located the closest to the main road and I would describe it somewhere between a backpacker's unit and a motel....

We stayed for 3 days in the Te Reru lodge and found the accomodation clean and comfortable (With an ensuite). It is however shared accomodation and has more of a backpacker feel to it. Don't be discouraged by this as the kids loved it! It was great to interact with people and the fresh muffins and bread made in the...
