A lot of the hotels we tried to stay in didn’t do accommodation and so we stayed mainly in motels. The vast majority of motels we stayed in were good value, extremely clean and well equipped. Many had laundry facilities, which were very reasonable and we were often given washing powder by the motel staff. The owners were generally charming,...

We all had a good time at the note. The rooms were comfortable clean well serviced with end hits. The food was excellent and generest servings with a good choice. The staff were friendly.we were only 200 meters from the beach which is a nice walk. It is only a short walk to the main area of DOC and the pancake...

A bit of warning if you are booking a room with double bed and a bunk. The room is very small with no room to move around not even a place for the luggage. If you do decide to stay, try the chocolate pudding at the tavern it is divine.

When booking this unit you are advised that it is a very small unit.We have this unit as a standby unit as families have been court out late on the coast road with no accommodation available.

We had been tramping in the rain all day then drove down the coast....too late to move on any further. So, we were thankful there was a room still available at this quaint location. We didn't partake of anything from the Tavern, but the wood stove was a real treat to warm up & dry off a bit in front....

Could do with revamp everything felt dated with a southern trucker pit stop motel feel. I didn't appreciate the black Velcro on the towel origami. A small towel stack with a ribbon would have been more elegant. Staff shouting over the restaurant about annoying birds and wanting to shoot them really added to the meal of frozen chips and over...

Our ensuite studio units are advertised as exactly that, they are in keeping with the style of the Tavern, They are not meant to look like the big Hotel chains,You would have had the opportunity to check the units out before booking in.The Housekeepers have modeled the towels and linen as an xmas treat as was the little gift left for...

Visited the Punakaiki area and received a warm welcome at the Punakaiki Tavern and motel. Not only did we spend the night we had a fabulous dinner at the tavern and were treated just like family by Rita and Jeanine. We recommend this cute and cozy place for anyone visiting the pancake rocks!! A must see when in New Zealand!

Ordinary pub food priced like fine dining. Frozen fish cakes sold as crumbed fish. Cowells pavlova for deserts with tinned fruit and canned cream! $40 steaks! Asked for coffee with desert and that was too much trouble! NZ's Fawlty Towers!

The menu is extensive from $5.00 to $39.50.Yes the steak is a 300g Ribeye but this is served with a red wine mushroom sauce with bacon.freshly prepared salad and fries or potato mash. We do not have fishcakes or crumbed fish on the menu so I can not respond to this. Sorry if coffee was missed, you only had to...

We visited the tavern to eat whist staying on the nearby campsite. Food was excellent, hot, tasty and plenty of it. Service was very good and staff very friendly. It was a local music night with several people playing and singing, really enjoyable and we ended up staying a lot longer than intended. Really nice friendly place.

The older staff at the tavern were quite abrupt and rude. It seemed that everything was a difficulty for them. The staff charged each of my friends $5 for wifi usage which is ridiculous and totally taking advantage of the monopoly they have in the area. The kettle in our motel room didn't work, otherwise the rooms were pleasant. I...

We were travelling through on good Friday & stopped to have a meal. Ended up staying a lot longer than planned. Great meals, friendly chatty staff, great open fire. The menu was pretty extensive & catered for all tastes. The portions were large & delicious. We did not stay in the accommodation but it looked like a typical Pub stay...
