Booked a little night away to relax and enjoy some quality time together. When arriving early we were greeted by an unhappy receptionist who's first response was "can't book in till 3pm". Which we were well aware of. She could have politely told us that and informed us there was a bar open where we could get some lunch and...

We have been using the Coast and Country hotel group for some time now and this was one we hadn't visited before. It is in a lovely location overlooking the river and bridge,we had a standard plus room with view of garden ,blossom trees and a glimpse of the river. A good sized room with the usual amenities and a...

We have just returned from a three night stay at The George. We had a good room, near the leisure centre and handy for the gardens. The room was clean and well presented. The shower was very powerful and there was always a good supply of hot water. We were staying half-board. Our meals were taken in the dining room,...

We very much enjoyed our two night break at the George. Our room was warm, clean and comfortable, with a lovely view from the window. The staff were kind and efficient and the meals were very good with a varied choice on the menu. The hotel has a nice friendly atmosphere. We didn't use the leisure facilities so can't comment....

We stayed here for three nights. Firstly, the setting for this hotel is fantastic. It's right beside the river and close to an old photogenic bridge. Chester Roman fort is about one minutes drive away. Don't worry about traffic noise. The staff were very friendly and the service in the dining-room was very slick indeed. So slick, that within 45...

The hotel is in a fabulous location being right next to the river and is well placed for people who like to walk or use there cars to explore the area. The staff were friendly, polite and approachable. The meals were of a good standard both in the evening and at breakfast with a good selection on the menus. The room...

The hotel is well-located for visiting Roman sites, Hexham, Durham and Newcastle. Glorious view of River Tyne from dining room and gardens. Excellent choice of dishes in evenings. Staff charming and helpful. It would be tempting just to stay at the hotel all the time and enjoy the peace. It's the first hotel I've ever stayed in where I cannot...

I dont like to give negative reviews, so I will a try and start with a positive as this will not take too long. The hotel is actually situated in a beautiful location on the banks of the River Tyne, overlooking the bridge into Chollerford. The gardens are well kept and pleasant to look at and nice to walk around....

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, I have read your comments thoroughly and have discussed them with the staff involved. We are currently looking at methods of cleaning the ceiling in the pool area with out causing too much disruption to the pool area. The guests you overheard that complained about the shower in that room...

We had booked in for a three night weekend break on-line taking advantage of a discount price. We have used this company on several occasions, but this was our first visit to The George. The hotel is in a magnificent location with great views from most windows. However, as my wife noted, it had the feel of an airport hotel -- very impersonal, basic menus, tired rooms. There was algae on the ceiling of the swimming pool. Lovely to have a pool and sauna, but a little bit of extra effort would have made...

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, I can assure you that the property is not being left to run down, over the last few years we have invested money into the public areas and a programme is underway to refurbish all of the bedrooms in the hotel. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Set in a beautiful river front location, just five miles from the market town of Hexham, the George at Chollerford is a historic building dating back to the 1700's renowned for its fine food and hospitality. It is great to have such a history behind the hotel as we feel we are doing an excellent job of keeping the tradition going, but we have also spent a lot of money upgrading a number of facilities in the hotel including the leisure club, with its swimming pool and gym, situated west of Newcastle we are in ideal spot for walkers, history buffs and gardeners alike - you will be spoilt for choice. The hotel is a perfect retreat in a location that we consider to be one of the most relaxing in Northumbria. ... more   less
