The Hilton La Romana receives consistent accolades for its service, with guests applauding the staff's friendliness and professionalism, although a few note occasional lapses in speed and organization. While the rooms are appreciated for their cleanliness and space, some visitors express concerns over maintenance and soundproofing. The resort's amenities, including the pristine beach, various dining options, and family-friendly activities, are particularly popular, with the Enclave offering exclusive perks. Although the atmosphere is deemed relaxing, a craving for more authentic Dominican music is evident. The location's beachfront and pool access are celebrated, as is the overall cleanliness of the property. However, the value proposition is questioned by travelers who feel the high prices are not fully justified by the services provided.

We visited here at the end of August into September 2024. This hotel is beautifully kept - the grounds are spacious, lush and extremely well maintained. The beach is one of the best I have ever visited, with cream sand and turquoise blue waters that are warm. We opted to pay for an upgrade to The Enclave section of the resort upon out arrival and did not regret our decision - we had an amazing view of the sea and were very close to the beach and our favourite restaurant, where as Enclave members we could also have breakfast and lunch.

The food was extremely good too, in the restaurants especially - we stayed on the family side and these were French, Italian and the Grill. Our favourite was the Grill, which was right by the sea in a fabulous location - we would have our breakfast there every morning and would go most lunchtimes and it was the place we went to for our meals in the evening the most. The staff there were very helpful and nice, remembering what we preferred (such as red or white wine etc) and the food was always delicious and perfect. Special mention goes out to Brian, who was very courteous and helpful at all times and there was this lovely girl called Rosa, who tried to teach me a bit of Spanish.

The weather was very good, apart from a few minor showers here and there, and one big storm one afternoon, when the rain was torrential.

The staff at the the resort on the whole were all very respectful and would say hello to you and smile etc if they passed you or caught your eye in a kind of peaceful way, which was appreciated.

The room was always kept very clean by the maid and our requests for certain items, such as a kettle and a blanket came quickly and without issue from house keeping.

There are also water sports if you want to partake in those, my husband and daughter went paddle boarding, kayaking and sailing!

All and all this is a fabulous resort and I would go back in a heart beat!

We recently stayed in the hotel for a 2 week holiday and had a wonderful time. It truly was paradise and I would encourage anyone to book. From the moment you arrive it truly is wonderful.

Going with family, there were 7 of us and is a great place for both families and couples alike. We stayed within the family resort, but for those days where we wanted to escape the kids and have alone time as a couple, we certainly enjoyed the adult side of the hotel too. We decided to upgrade to enclave to enjoy the little extras that it offered. You can enjoy the enclave lounges and get access to the restaurants for breakfast and lunch, the enclave pools, as well as little extras in your room. If you want full access to everything, then I would say upgrade. If you’re happy with eating in the buffet restaurant each day for breakfast and lunch, then I would say you can live without enclave. All the bars provide the same drinks and cocktails, anyways. Visiting both, adult and family enclave lounges, these were night and day. Adult side was well equipped with a small buffet area and place to relax and proper bar in it. The family side you could see was formerly hotel rooms turned into enclave. The bar was a bookcase and the food was more basic on a small side unit. That said, I do hear they have plans to upgrade this. So hopefully they do as just now it’s not a place you want to spend any time in.

I have read that people are struggling for sun loungers, which shocked me. As a group of 7 we never had any issues getting loungers. The staff in the hotel are always on hand to help you if you need help. We went in July, which I expected to be really busy, with crowded pools. This was not the case and I know the hotel was full whilst we stayed there. With the hotel so spread out you never feel like the pools are over crowded and you have loads of space in the pools. The staff were so attentive by coming round your sun loungers all day and taking drinks orders from you (even if you aren’t enclave). No need to go to a bar and get drinks. The beach was also amazing and so clean. No seaweed. We arrived just after hurricane Beryl and the staff were wonderful at getting the beach and pool areas back to. Normal with palms trees that had fallen down etc. you wouldn’t have thought anything destructive had happened. The pool that we loved was the water park. We really did spend a lot of time there. Nothing beats bobbing along in a lazy river, with the sun beating down on you, to escape your everyday stresses. The flumes were really fun too. To think such a fantastic water park is in the hotel and its residents only.

The rooms were well equipped and so clean. We got to know our housemaid really well (I forgot her name), but she was lovely. People on Trip Advisor have commented that the rooms are too small, but we stayed there 2 weeks and never found the room size to be any problem. The cleanliness of the full hotel really was 5 star. My partner was nervous to go there as he is scared of spiders, but we never saw one the entire time we were there. The only things we saw were tiny crabs occasionally on the paths, but that was it.

The restaurants were really good, with great food, (well, some of). Being enclave we dined within the Grill, but we actually found the buffet to be good with so much choice. So most mornings we ate there. We also ate in the adult buffet some mornings, when we didn’t have kids with us, and we found theirs to be really good too, with some different choices. Initially, we weren’t fussed about going to the French restaurant, but how that changed. Turned out to be our favourite restaurant - a must! Our waiter, Enrique, really was outstanding. So attentive and really made our night and nothing was too much effort for him. Sadly, this was not to be said for the Italian restaurant, that we walked out of. A waiter that did not care, a cold meal, tasteless, drinks that eventually arrived after our starter and halfway through our main course, only to be wrong - we walked out half way through our mains to go to the buffet instead. However, that restaurant aside, we enjoyed the others. One of our favourites was Sakura and a must. We dined there a few times. They will tell you that you have to book in advance, but this is only for the Teppanyaki table, but you can walk in for food outwith, which was incredible. Do it if you manage to get a child free night. The hotel are trying their best to cater for gluten free options, however, after 2 weeks my partner was getting frustrated at times with it. Sometimes the staff were accommodating and would cater for him and others were just saying “no” and wouldn’t make anything within the buffet for him. My mum ended up speaking to the Restaurant Manager one day regarding the options and he was very helpful. He said that anything that was needed to come speak with him and he would do what he can for us. So at times we would track him down to ask for other options. Sadly, one day, a waiter was not were informed as to gluten allergies, as I think he believed it was bread only and said the soup was gluten free, when it contained Soy. This then meant that my partner fell unwell for the next 4 days and had to spend a lot of it in bed. We ended up having to get medication from the pharmacy to help him.

The staff really were so friendly. Everywhere you went they were always smiling and saying hello to you. Being a gay couple, we were a little apprehensive as to how we would be welcomed, but this was certainly not a problem. We could hold hands and show our affection without any prejudice. One person I must mention is Francis, who worked in the cafe and occasionally in enclave. He just had the biggest heart and was so smiley. He really did make our day when we saw him. Wander, who worked in enclave bar, he was also really attentive and would create cocktails for us that weren’t on the menu and he really showed off his talents - they were great! Santa in Sakura was just lovely too. I must say a huge thank you to Janely, who worked in Enclave - Thank you! She really went above and beyond for us. When my partner fell unwell from gluten consumption, we were really concerned for him as he was getting really weak, as nothing he was eating was staying down. We spoke to someone at the hotel and she told us of medication we could buy from the shop, but sadly this was out when I tried to buy it. When I went to family Enclave for help they just told me to go to the doctor, which we had heard horror stories about. Someone got a reaction to a mosquito bite and the doctor charged them $120 just to see him and then hundreds more when he sent them to the hospital, only to be given medication that was in the hotel shop for $5 all along. That said, I went to the other Enclave lounge for help and that’s when I was met with Janely. She called the local pharmacy and arranged medication for my partner and even arranged delivery and went to meet the pharmacy driver, the lot. We were so appreciative of everything she done that day.

This really was a special holiday for us and one that we will forever cherish as a family. My 7 year old niece had amazing time and met so many friends. We would definitely love to return one day. The hotel offered everything and we truly had a spectacular holiday. If you are considering booking this hotel, then k would recommend it. Truly paradise..

Let me begin by saying my wife and I have been to the DR over 10 times and have gone to Punta Cana and for the last 3 years La Romana. The Hilton in La Roman is top notch and definitely worth the 40 minute bust ride to La Ramana just to experience the beautiful water on the La Romana side of the island.

As always, the Dominican people are super nice and this time was no different.

We stayed in building 7 which was part of the Enclave package which we really enjoyed. It had it's own pool and bar and a section on the beach with great sun cover only for Enclave guests.

The room was really nice with a king bed, dresser and finally a shower that did not spill water out into the bathroom. Our room was made each day with evening turn-down service with plenty of fresh towels stocked daily.

All of the restaurants served delicious food with a great atmosphere. The main buffet restaurant had different theme nights (Indian, Asian, Dominican, Americano) to name a few and they had a great selection of tasty food at breakfast, lunch and dinner. The beach grill was also amazing if you just wanted to chill by the ocean for lunch. The pizza hut by the pool was also a nice touch serving delicious pizza slices all day. I would also like to give a HUGE shout out to a sweetheart of a hostess that we saw at the buffet and some of the other restaurants also....her name is "LADY" (Leity). We really connected with her simply due to her super sweetness.

As mentioned above, the water and beachfront is simply breathtaking. The water in La Romana is super calm, warm and seaweed free....I don't think I will ever go back to Punta Cana again given the perfect waters in La Romana.

Both the family and adult sections had beautiful lobbies with nice seating if you wanted to enjoy something from the bar of coffee bar. We enjoyed amazing coffee along with tasty sweets that were served at the coffee bar each day...again, super friendly staff at both of the coffee bars.

The only thing that my wife and I did not enjoy is constantly being approached by the Playa time share staff that were situated in the lobby, the restaurant entrance area and the walkway to the buffet and lobby. Aside from this, our stay was simply perfect. The staff at the Hilton really make you feel like family which makes us going back (we are currently planning next year's stay at the Hilton La Romana).

We've been to the DR twice (different resorts) and we think that's enough.
We stayed for a week on the family side. The Hilton LR is a beautiful resort. Landscape is lovely. Aside from that, here is my opinion.
"Enclave" is way overrated. Be aware that enclave rooms have different categories and not all are the same nor do they have the same amenities, although you probably won't find that info on their site. I won't go into detail but I would not pay for Enclave again.
The beach is fairly small, but the water is calm and warm - good for the littles. But unless you get up before 7am you won't get a spot in the shade. People put towels on chairs to reserve them. It says on their site that after an hour unattended towels are picked up and the chairs become available again. This is not true. We asked someone from the beach staff and he said they don't do it. We never got a shady spot.
The food was mostly awful at all the family restaurants and buffet. The buffet staff redeemed themselves a bit, though, by serving a really nice Thanksgiving dinner. The majority of restaurant/buffet staff do not speak english, which makes it difficult to communicate what you want/need. There wasn't much seafood at the restaurants - an occasional shrimp but I think it came frozen from Costco. Some restaurants had a "catch of the day" but it was awful. Otherwise, to get seafood you have to go to their beach BBQ -once a week- but it costs $135pp to attend!
The bed and linens were comfortable. The shower took about 5 minutes to get warm (no exaggeration).
The waterpark was fun.
There were sales people hanging out mainly in the lobby who will stop you and try to sell you a membership to their version of a travel club. A bit annoying. If you're not interested just say "no thank you" and keep walking.
We did manage to have a good time but that was mostly because of the people we were traveling with. I think we'll avoid the DR in the future, and Hilton too.

My wife and I recently returned from a 10-night stay (family side) at Hilton La Romana, and we can say that we enjoyed our time at the hotel. The private beach is gorgeous, the sea is very calm with little to no seaweed, and the water temperature was always comfortable. The hotel staff were diligent in collecting towels left on the sunbeds, which made it easy for us to find a pair of free sunbeds, no matter what time we arrived at the beach.

We also participated in several physical and entertaining activities organised by the hotel staff, and we greatly appreciated Picasso's efforts in coordinating them and engaging the guests. His enthusiasm added to our enjoyment.

The food and drinks were excellent, with plenty of options at the buffet, some sections of the buffet were staffed, which slightly slowed down the service compared to traditional self-service buffets, but it also ensured that the food remained more presentable and hygienic, which we appreciated. Fresh fish and meat were cooked to order, which was a nice touch. There was a wide variety of themed restaurants offering cuisines from around the world. Most restaurants didn’t require reservations, and we only had to wait on days when we dined later in the evening. When we arrived earlier (before 7 PM), there was little to no wait.

The rooms were spacious and cleaned daily to a high standard. However, the noise insulation was lacking, and we could hear almost everything from the neighbouring room. While it depends on how noisy the other guests are, we did experience some disturbance during the first few nights of our stay. Fortunately, once those guests left, our nights were much quieter.

One downside of the experience was the salespeople from The Playa Collection (a timeshare holiday club), who were quite persistent in the lobby. Within an hour of arriving, we were presented with a form to sign up for a 90-minute session, which we declined. I would advise future guests to be cautious and avoid giving in to pressure unless they are sure of their decision, as this could potentially disrupt the enjoyment of their holiday.

All in all, it was a very positive experience.

We stayed at Hilton La Romana for 2 weeks in December 2024. The overall experience was very good, but some things did disappoint.

Our room was in building #7, on the 3rd floor. Clean, no mold, working A/C, fresh towels and bedding.

We have 7 years old son, so he had a FUNtastic time with his daddy at the waterpark every day. I was enjoying the beach. The best thing about the beach is that there were NO waves, ever! My son and his friend could go to the water by themselves, and we could watch them from the shore. But the big minus for me personally was that there were only NINE palapas on the beach (excluding the enclave section where we could not go). I had to set up the alarm to go to the beach before 8 am to get the palapa and sometimes it would be too late. I cannot stay under the direct sun, so this was a big issue for me. What was also annoying, some palapas that were reserved by others before 8 am would stay EMPTY till the late afternoon. I wish the hotel had the policy that after couple of hours they would remove the towels and let other vacationers to enjoy the palapas.

The food was good but what disappointed me was the selection of fruits – we usually go to Punta Cana every December and the fruit selection was much better at other hotels. Have to admit, the desserts were delicious! In my 10+ years of having the vacations down South it was first time I was eating the desserts at every dinner (usually, I don’t even try them).

Also, that was the first time we stayed at the hotel where the entertainment happens on the grass (chairs on the grass under the sky). There were quite a few rainy evenings which caused the show cancellations.

Stay away from their apple juice. My son got food poisoning from it. He had the pizza and the apple juice from the beach bar in the afternoon and got sick by the evening (freshly baked pizza would not cause it). Then we recalled how our friends’ son got sick a week before that after the dinner at a la carte restaurant and he had the apple juice there..

The customer service at the hotel is very good, we could see the difference comparing to the past experience at other hotels in Punta Cana.

Also, got surprised by the massage quality at the spa – can’t speak to all their employees but I received a very decent massage.

I would definitely come back IF there would be more palapas on the beach :).

This is a late review, but I could not go without posting one as we had the most amazing time in this hotel. We stayed last year end of October for 11 nights. My partner and 2 children - 6years and 6 months. We traveled from Manchester, Uk. For anyone thinking about booking this hotel do not hesitate I was so worried travelling with 6 months old, but it was just perfect so relaxing I could not recommend this hotel highly enough, especially staff they could not do enough for you, nothing was a problem for them.
We travelled to celebrate my 40th birthday. Prior to our arrival I emailed Francesca Lebron and Keyla Salado. I mentioned that we are coming to celebrate my bday and we are traveling with baby and requested things we needed for our little one. When we arrived we were upgraded to “Premium “ ( I believe this is Enclave now ) it was a lovely surprise and definitely worth it for us. The room location was excellent ground floor ( because of pram and no lift ) just over looking family premium pool near the family bar. The lady who checked us in was very professional and kind she walked us to our room there again surprise bubbly and chocolates for my bday. Everything I requested for the baby was in the room I was very impressed. I requested bottle steriliser, baby bath, kettle, high chair, cot and daily they brought case of bottled water for me to make milk and wash bottles.
Food - we really enjoyed the food. Mainly eat at the buffet breakfast and lunch as it was easier with children. Also pizza at the family pool side bar was delicious. Some nights we got room service, again very good especially the salmon and pizza my daughter still talks about the pizza.
We managed to eat in French and Italian twice both we enjoyed the meals nothing to complain about.
I can’t go without mentioning the three lady’s at the family premium bar Emilia, Ignacia and Carmen. Our room was just in front of the bar. After a day or two as soon as they saw us coming outside from our room or by the pool they were pouring us drinks :-) these lady’s are such a credit to the hotel and made our holiday special.
For us Premium was definitely worth it. We needed shade when on the beach and pool and that was never a problem at the Premium family beach.
Our daughter enjoyed kids discos and shows. The actual kids club needs improvement, but this would not stop us from coming again as everything else was perfect. We are planning to come again.

The design of the resort is impressive, the grounds are beautiful, and the staff was incredibly kind and accommodating our entire stay.
All of the food was delicious with no wait times at the restaurants; we only needed to make reservations for Sakura, which you can do easily through concierge. The dining on the adult side was a little higher tier, mostly due to less crowds and a more diverse cuisine offering.
The cabana rentals are worth every penny, though be prepared to watch strangers take pictures with your setup as soon as you walk away...Staff always took notice and would clean strangers sunscreen body marks off our lounger and give us new towels after, which was nice.
All the beaches are beautiful, and the water was mostly seaweed free during our stay. The adult side and premium beach tends to have less people. We avoided the adult side premium pool area because the vibes were OFF, it was mostly older people sitting around the pool working, bleh. The infinity pool with the swim up bar and PREMIUM people watching is where it's at. Please wear your reef safe sunscreen and wait the full 15 minutes for it to absorb into your skin.
BEWARE!!! Playa Collections presentations & representatives. They will rope you in with sweet offers of comped services and vouchers while you're riding the high of your vacation. ALWAYS ask to see the contracts ahead of time; the interest rates are high, the return is conditional and minimal compared to the overall investment. TeaTree International LLC., the main company you are obligated to pay after signing the contract, has a very poor BBB rating, and has no actual physical location, it's just a placeholder address. If you do have to cancel your contract, it is very difficult to get in touch with someone, and you really have to lawyer your way out of it, all within 3 days of signing the contract.

Too bad, this Inn could have been nice but there is too much Impression (on arrival in the lobby) of being mistaken for pigeons or cash machines. We jump on you (watch out for people in navy blue shirts called “Playa Collextion”) to sell you extra services (minimum $450 to become a member knowing you have to participate in a 90-minute presentation - nice during a beachside holiday). Upon arrival you are also told that you have a $50 credit to use in shops or elsewhere. Same are lies (saying you have to have made the presentation in full but that is never specified - the joke).
We give you big smiles and curves until you make them understand that you are not interested and the masks fall and indifference gives way to pseudo-kindness (FĂ©lix for example). It is therefore only a facade and it is very unpleasant.
Otherwise the rooms are very poorly soundproofed it is a shame because the rest is rather pleasant overall.
On the restaurant side, to benefit from an outdoor table or other it is necessary to plan each time an extra charge.
The Water Sport Center is also not well sized for the size of the Inn (unless you want to book for 1pm).
Rooms are cleaned randomly, sometimes at 10am sometimes at 8pm??? Not to understand
And for the deckchairs, many people rush to book their deckchairs but are hardly there (to the staff on site, take the example on the Lux BelMare of Mauritius where the blocking of deckchairs is forbidden and it is much more pleasant for everyone).
Pros: the beach is very nice and on foot you can easily reach Magdalanes beach for a great time of snorkeling.
The pools, especially the infinite pool are very nice and the staff around the pool is great.
The Coffee bar of the Lobby and its very nice staff
Overall buffets and restaurants are decent and offer a wide selection of salads and fresh fruit. The dishes are also varied. Another positive point is that not having the dishes on self-service certainly avoids waste.
It is therefore unfortunately a mixed review of this first visit to the Dominican Republic. Perhaps in other resorts this feeling of “cash machines” is less present and spoils the stay less.
In conclusion you have a nice place, take example of the kindness and sincerity of Mauritians and it will be much better.

This was our first trip to this property and our experience was amazing! The property assisted with very simple airport transfers from PUJ. The arrival experience was wonderful! We were able to have the Premium Experience on the Adult Only side of the resort due to room selection and Hilton status. Room was amazing but will ask for upper floor next time rather than ground floor as we had a great view but it felt like we were part of the pool area and would like to try more privacy next time. Pools were great and offered two different experiences with one more active atmosphere and the Premium much more quiet and relaxed. We really enjoyed the beach area that offered shade or sun depending on preference. The ocean was clear and calm during our stay. The restaurant options were very good and offered plenty of variety to explore. The Premium Lounge was a very nice escape area!
We wanted a more quiet and relaxed trip and we were able to experience just the right mix of events and quiet time!
We would definitely return in the future!

Some tips from our point of view.
Use the property transportation to set up airport transfers as they made it very easy. This is a tropical climate so bring sunscreen and enjoy the value of air conditioning as over half of the resort is open air.
Talk about your dinner expectations with the staff at check-in so you can enjoy what you want during the trip.
Take advantage of the Premium services if you have them.
Take some bug spray just in case.
We followed past comments and brought our own Yeti or insulated cup as they will gladly fill it and it reduces trips for refills and saves plastic cups and paper straws. So we recommend bringing your own - or buying at the gift shop - as it is worth it.

We look forward to visiting again in the future!
