Stayed in a converted farm building opposite the main hotel building, very quiet with a comfy new bed. Basic shower room but everything worked well. Loved the tranquility of the location and view from the window. Staff were helpful and friendly and the food was amazing. Evening meal with wine and a superb breakfast were served in the modest old...

Stayed for 2 nights, chose hotel for its location as wanted a peace and quiet break. Rooms were very basic and have paper thin walls and the first night were disturbed by lots of noise from next room and constant talking till late and noise when they departed at 5 am. Bathroom very small and basic....no fan or ventilation. Kettle...

At first we were not happy. We were told that they had overlooked our booking and we were to go elsewhere. 'Elsewhere' proved to a small self-contained apartment 20 metres from the hotel. It was superb - very spacious and comfortable, so our initial annoyance quickly turned to pleasure. The meals were delivered to our lovely dining area in the...

We stayed here for two nights. On the first night the chef was severely challenged by a power cut but on the second night the dinner was excellent. Our room was very basic in a converted farm building and the shower room had no natural light (awkward showering by torchlight!) but the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was copious. Free Wifi...

The Auberge is found in the tiny medieval village of Sougraine, far from civilisation and nestled in gorgeous french countryside. The pool is great with fantastic views, next to a peaceful courtyard. Ancient town houses have been converted into comfortable rooms with tea and coffee facilities. Beds are very comfortable and we slept very well here. Dinner is served on...

We stayed here on our Cathar visit. Sougraine is away from it all, tucked in the mountains. The rooms are well appointed, and situated in building within the village. The restaurant, reception and large lounge plus swimming pool are in another building. There is a set 3 course menu with wine for an outstandingly reasonable price! Breakfast includes freshly baked...

We loved this tiny village, even though the roads were narrow. Traveling in April/May was occasionally wet, but so quiet that we often felt we were among a chosen few - and the towns around are so steeped in history, and there is so little "modern" development, that one could easily forget what century it was. For example, Alet les...

L'Ecluse au Soleil is the ideal choice if you really want to experience the magic of the Cathar countryside without the crowds and traffic jams of Carcassonne, Rennes-le-Chateau and Limoux. Tucked away in a hidden valley, the auberge almost IS the village, with its rooms up this cobbled laneway, down through that stone archway, across the square, just past the...

Me and my three children stayed for one night when we went to visit Renne-Le-Chateau and several ancient ruins in the area. The building is old and full of character. The spacious rooms are perfect, simple but luxurious and very romantic with views of the forested mountains surrounding the village. The little things are taken into account, like a hair...

This is one of those hard to find treasures in France. Its not modern but its very clean and quaint. Its far away from the tourist haunts, its quiet and unspoilt but Its close to places to visit and (I believe) its a great spot for hiking and long walks in unspoilt areas. What ever you do, make sure your...

“The Aude suite can accommodate families but they will simply shut off some of the rooms and let a lovely spacious bedroom plus bathroom and wc for couples, at a lower rate. This one has wonderful views across the valley to the Pyrenean foothills.”
