I stayed here during a business trip. The view over the lake was amazing! Furthermore, the breakfast buffet was one of the best breakfast buffets I have ever enjoyed. Fresh croissants, different kinds of yoghurt, juices, vegan options. The rooms are a bit outdated and the shower could have been cleaned better, but other than that I had a great stay.

It's a 3-star hotel. Great view over the lake and very friendly staff.
Rooms are anyhow not the best ones you can imagine.... Nothing special to remember, but at the same time nothing too bad... Average, let's say.
Good value.

As mentioned in some other reviews, the hotel is a bit hard to find - there is a maze of little one way streets that can lead the GPS on small circles.

The hotel is quite plain looking, but clean and modern inside, and most rooms have great view of the lake. Just down below there is a promenade along the lake and a small marina and ferry landing. It is the standard hotel for visiting scientists to stay while going to meetings at the big European Reseach Centre in Ispra. No wow-factor but quite adequate. Friendly staff who are willing to give advice on finding your way around. Restaurant is OK but nothing special. there is a small bar/café below which serves some minimal food and has a cheerful (i.e. noisy) atmosphere. In the surrounding narrow streets abpve the hotel there are a few interesting restaurants that mainly seemed to be closed - too late in the season I guess. We found one good but strange one - a Bavarian restaurant - German beer and schnitzl and a lot of fun.
Overall hotel is well located, has nice big rooms, quiet and so good value.

This hotel needs a total renovation. The walls and windows need a new coat of paint (I would say change the windows). The phones in the rooms don't work (they know it but "cannot do anything"). The windows need insulation (or more correctly renewal) as they leak cold air (They know it but "cannot do anything" when you ask them.) No armchair in the room, the shower rod is not secured. The only good thing is their breakfast is ok and some of the dishes in the restaurant. I would not recommend it to anyone.

We have booked a room at this hotel. When we arrived, the room 444 was very dirty, the bed linen were clearly used and full of hair, the cockroaches were on the curtains, balcony and the room. The furniture is old and there is a big need of refurbishment. We asked for another room, we saw room 333 which was also dirty in what regards the bed linen, curtains. To avoid as if you cancel, this hotel will still charge you for the first might despite the horrible conditions.

Amazing views of Lago Maggiore, right in front of the ferry, lakefront walk, walk of the “lovers”, sand beach, Quassa Park and so on.
Bar and restaurant nearby also. The rooms are well kept and the breakfast had gluten free products. Staff was also very nice, we’ll definitely be back!

I spent two weeks in September 2014 on business at the JRC in this hotel. Unfortunately there's not too many hotel choices close to the JRC.

* The hotel is nicely located right next to the lake and I think you'll have a view of the lake from almost every room
* The staff throughout my visits was neutral. Not especially friendly but helpful.
* I did not like the room. Everything in this hotel is old and run-down. Furniture was partly moldy and uninviting. I did not enjoy spending time in the room.
* The room seemed to be cleaned well every day.
* The Internet worked perfectly and was fast. Way better than in some 4 or 5 star business hotels I've stayed in.
* The rooms were noisy, not so much from the outside as there's not much around but from neighboring rooms. Every time my neighbor flushed the toilet or took a shower it got very loud.
* Taps were dripping
* I tried the restaurant once and it was okay but I chose different places for my remaining dinners

I will not stay here again. It's a pity, the location is fabulous but the hotel is in urgent need of renovations.

Not a good start - Address published is a private road and does not register on a Sat Nav. Phone hotel who apologised and gave me a nearby location to use. Then got there. Sat Nav address is:

Hotel Europa
Via Verbano
21027 Ispra VA
Italy

The good. Free off road parking, warm welcome, friendly and helpful staff, great location by the lake. Free wifi. Very close and a short walk to the town/village centre where there are a selection of shops, bars and restaurants.

The not so good. The hotel is dated and tired. Bedroom air con was a large noisy wall mounted machine, with a remote control to operate. It seemed to have mind of it's own and came on and off at random times throughout the night. Sleeping was really difficult.

Bathroom, ventilator didn't work, the room was smelly. Shower head sprayed water over the top of the shower soaking everything in the bathroom.

On reflection I wished I had stayed elsewhere.

Stayed 2 nights in this hotel. Most likely it is build in the seventies and since then nothing got changed. Rooms are very miss, You literally can hear you neighbor speak and you can enjoy flushing toilets etc. Rooms was clean, bed was ok. Staff is friendly, but is depending on the person. View is great. WIFI is good and free. Breakfast is ok for a 3 star hotel.
General conclusion: good enough for a night stay, but thats it.

In fairness to the hotel my husband and I had a hilarious time as it was like stepping back in time, we felt like we were in a cross between fawlty towers and the shining.
The first room we were given had a broken air con system, no hot water, BBC World News with no sound, the second (albeit for one night), views directly over the car park, and again BBC World News not working properly, and the third in a 24 hour period, everything seemed to work ok, half a view of the lake, although frustratingly BBC still not working. We wouldn't mind so much but it was the only English language channel.
The rooms are in absolutely desperate need of updating. Blinds for the windows are opened using a creaking, rusty old pole. The shower and it's knobs are ancient, light fittings wonky and very old. Chairs on balcony were filthy. I mean, everything you can think of is from the original 60's build.
Apparently the hotel has been modernised - my husband spent the majority of our stay scanning the place trying to work out HOW!
Breakfast - hmmmm, coffee and tea almost undrinkable, cakes and croissants stale (not surprising, I saw croissants sat out at 12 noon, and the cereal is permanently left out). Very poor selection and it's all pretty rubbish.
Staff are lovely, no complaints there.
The hotel has its many negatives however it's a peaceful spot well located for the ferry around the beautiful lake Maggiore, and the whole experience is pretty funny - you won't ever experience anything like it!
