Comfortable and well located in a quieter part of the Lake. Lovely people running and working in the hotel. The terrace for breakfast or dinner was perfect and the meals were always good. The road bikes provided by the hotel were excellent as was the advice on where to ride and what to see. This was our 5th 'Italy bike hotel' and it was another great experience. Recommended.
A beautiful home away from home. Our second stay in the wonderful Hotel Belvedere and again we loved every minute of it. The stunning location, the attentive staff and the fantastic home-made food (the grandmother makes the the delicious ravioli by hand!) served with spectacular views of the Lago - what more could one want. We look forward to our next stay!
I am really disappointed with a lunch I have just had at the Hotel Belvedere in Ranco. I have been several times over the last 14 years and quality has always been high. I used to go with a friend as there contro fillet was absolutely amazing. This time however I ordered the contro fillet and it was super tough, very chewy. The defensive owner was quite reluctant but I told him it was one of my favourite dishes as the quality was amazing but this was not the same standard.. He finally offered another choice. He recommended the pork. Perhaps I should of not ordered meat again after this bad experience but he advised me on the pork that was super tender. It was awful. Full of fat and gristle. I ate the spinach that was really lovely. I left the whole plate. No one came to ask me about the quality of the food. They actually disappeared . The starter was great however! . Overall the choice and quality of meat was not up to standard especially for what you pay. As a customer you are not made to feel special and it feels as if they really not interested and a tourist would walk in the next day and take you place. Regardless whether you enjoyed your meal or not.…
This restaurant is located in the Hotel Belvedere in Ranco, Italy which overlooks beautiful Lake Maggiore in the northern lake district of Italy. The hotel is perhaps 50 yards--with unobstructed views--from the local marina and ferry boat landing. The hotel has been in the same family for 150 years. Great views throughout. We had several excellent breakfasts and one excellent dinner during our several days staying. We will definitely return for the fun location and excellent food and ambiance.
This hotel was very nice, clean and cozy. It was better than on the photos. The Maggiore lake view from our room and from the restaurant terrace was amazing. Service level and breakfast were very good. What we didn't liked was that ordinary glasses were allowed in the pool area instead of plastic glasses and also, there was an unannounced party in the restaurant on Saturday with very loud music and guest until late at night.
We hired MTB bikes for a week of cycling in the area. The hotel provided excellent help with the bikes and with GPS-based tours which proved to be a brilliant solution. Since this area is densly populated with a lot of villages and small towns its not obvious where you can find a trail to follow. With the GPS we were guided into small forrests, through towns, along backroads, up on hills, along rivers and lakes, and through fields on narrow paths that we would otherwise not have found. Daily discussions with the bike guide provided a new path for the following day with a suitable length and elevation. Perfect if you like to get off the paved roads and get around in the beautiful Italian landscape.
We arrived in Ranco after a long drive, looking forward to our first dinner out in Italy. With just a few options, we plumped for the Belvedere as reviews were good and it was mid range. Lovely location on a terrace with lake views, nice atmosphere. The rest was a big disappointment. Surly service from someone who looked like the manager. As soon as she realised that we were only ordering one course plus drinks and sides she was rude. The food was very average. It did not all come together. What we did eat was over priced. The Perch came in little fried squares with a side of soggy veg. The pasta was tasteless. The pork loin was tasty. We did not feel welcome and frankly for €110 we should have gone in to Angera for a pizza and spent half that.
We staid for a week at hotel Belvedere during August, we booked a superior double with lake view. The hotel is a good and afordable location for people wanting to explore the lake, take daytrips or for cycling - the hotel presents itself as bikehotel and actually has the facilities to support this. The rooms are clean and have good beds. The breakfast is absolutely great, offering different sorts of bread, fruits, cake, nuts, yoghurt etc. You can also eat at the resaurant or at various nice restaurants around. One point to note is that the hotel can be more qualified as providing lodge than hotel services, eg there is no swimmingpool or large sun terras, but as said, depending on your sort of stay this is not relevant.
We have been coming to this hotel for at least 10 years. We have always rated it as one of our favourites in Europe, based on its fantastic location (particularly the view from the restaurant terrace over Maggiore), exemplary food and the warmth that results from it being family run. It also serves a terrific (largely homemade) breakfast buffet (much better than any hotel we have stayed at in Italy). So why don’t I rate this in TA as 5 star? Well, to be frank, during our most recent stay, standards appear to have slipped noticeably while prices have risen. The location remains wonderful. But the food is not up to the standard it once was and the menu now appears to be about what is easy to cook rather than what is in season. Much of the change seems to stem from the fact that the older generation now is taking a back seat in the running of the restaurant. The atmosphere is no longer as welcoming as it once was. Will we come back? Probably. But it will be for the views, as there are other nearby restaurants that offer better, cheaper and more traditional food.…
My experience with the hotel and their personnel was just very bad! the staff are just very unfriendly! The hotel is expensive for their poor 3 stars standards. They gave us the attic room even though I booked the one with the lake view ( according to them the attic has a lake view from the ceiling window, it's barely a view). The AC comprocessors were located just outside the window given it's in the attic, very very loud and noisy! the room as such was very small to move around with the falling ceiling. Lots of spiders in the room since it's in the rooftop which made our stay quiet unpleasant. the room was located in the 3rd floor, and the elevator goes to only the 2nd floor. so we had to carry our language for one more floor up and down which could be an issue if you have heavy luggage. One night we were out late and they closed the reception door and no one was there. no one informed us that we need to take the keys of the reception and they didn't hand it over with the room keys, so we had to wait outside of the hotel till someone came and opened the door for us. Last but not least, when I addressed these issue to the hotel staff, they were very rude and very unpleasant to talk to, the person at the reception was even talking with a loud voice and very aggressive, he didn't even try to understand. It was ok for a short stay, I don't however recommend it and I won't go there again.…
