The staffs are all very nice and have a good advice for me.
I could go to hospital and attraction in Mukdahan.
Helpful service and at the next morning they had a service van took me to Ubon Ratchathani Airport.
But I think service van fee very expensive!
But the rooms were outdated. The carpet smelled a bit. The shower was in the bath tub. The swimmingpool was outdated.
There are better hotels for less money in the area.
All around just a totally dirty hole!!!
It only scraped a three in my estimation however due to being let down by the staff. I had paid for 3 nights (Fri/Sat/Sun), and had a "voucher" for the stay and a receipt for payment. Myself and my girlfriend travelled overnight from Bangkok, arriving at the hotel at around 7am on the Saturday morning. I had paid for the Friday night and indicated "late check-in" to save any hassle. They claimed I was only booked for two nights (Sat/Sun), and did not give us a voucher for breakfast on the Sat morning, despite the receipt and booking confirmation clearly showing otherwise.
Then come Sunday, when I checked out at 7pm (remembering I had paid for Sunday night too), first they tried to charge me again for the stay (despite them holding a copy of my pre-payment receipt), and then trying to charge me a late check-out fee (when I had paid all night Sunday to avoid such arguements). Incidentally, it was not a language barrier issue - my girlfriend is a native of Mukdahan.
In addition to this, the attitude in general of the staff we experienced was very poor. Having paid for three nights when only one full one was spent in the hotel (this was deliberate, supposedly to avoid this type of problem), it was as if we were an inconvenience and a nuisance to them. At times their approach was plain rude. And despite paying for these three nights, by their way of it the staff would have had us paying almost double that again.
As I said, physically the hotel is fine. For us though, it was horribly let down in particular by the reception staff. For this reason we will not stay at Ploy Palace again.
Preventive maintenance is not the strongest point in thailand
Overall good price/quality ratio.
I would stay again
Was pleasantly surprised to find a bright open lobby, with crisp decor and shiny floor tiles, extremely pleasant front desk staff in smart uniforms, and smiling concierge..
My room, on the 6th floor, overlooked the small water park and faced west, which was quite nice.. The setting sun was easily covered by black out curtains, which was a good feature. I found the room to be of a good size, very clean, well appointed and firm, but not rocky bed. Bathroom was spotless and well cared for, plus a few amenities standard to most hotels. Large flatscreen telly had a few English channels, mostly news, but better than nothing.. I found the wifi quite good, not super strong but adequate, better in the lobby, which was actually not a bad place to hang out, comfy chairs and plenty of room.
Had a very restful night and woke refreshed and after a pleasant shower and freshen up, retired to the breakfast buffet, always interesting.. Admittedly, a large amount of the hot dishes on offer were Thai staples, but still tasty, if you don't mind Thai food for brekky... otherwise, there was fresh fruit, bakery, espresso machine and a nice egg station, where a smiling young lass was happy to whip up omelettes and other eggy sorts of things, very nice. So, I could settle into a proper brekky instead of the usual Asian hotel breakfast of some bits of toast and 3 in 1 coffee, if you couldn't handle chill first thing in the morning.
Oh yeah, plenty of parking, too! Almost forgot..
Summing up, not the cheapest place in town, but tell you what, I'd had a long drive and being able to chill here and get a great relaxing evening and tasty breakfast next day was worth every son tang !
Generally regarded as the best option for staying in Mukdahan, the building is fairly dated but retains its status in the North-East as one of the grander hotels in the area. Whilst the rooms have benefitted from a modern makeover such as the enhanced wooden style wall fittings and furnishings synonymous with Asian kitsch design, other areas of the building such as the roof-top cafe appear more like a relic of the 1980's. Local area strength Wifi.
The large marbleised-style bathrooms that are popular in Thailand are also included here making a refreshing bath a must-do option after an 8 hour visa run in neighbouring Savannakhet, Laos.
In summary I felt I could have bargained for a better deal in low season (1300 bht a night) given the surplus of new guesthouse rooms springing up in the area at half the price but I didn't want to spoil matters at reception. Staff were generally warm and attentive.
Swimming pool area in very bad condition (pool is okay though): no towels, no service, no bar, no food - you are on your own.
Breakfast was surprisingly tasty (at least a few dishes) but not to worry if you miss it.
The Hotel is well situated in Mukhdahan and just across the road there are a variety of Cafes with good cheap local meals and if you like there even Street Stalls close by to eat from. There is also a Chemist and Grocery Store opposite the Hotel if you need to stock up on any items for your travels before you depart the city of Mukdahan.
