Hotel's Favourite

Recently returned from Astir Odysseus (20th September 2022). Had a fabulous 2 week break there.
The hotel is nicely spread around beautiful gardens so nothing feels cramped or tight for space.
Room - we had the perfect room (523) which was a swim up room. It was the best swim up pool we have ever had as it was extremely long and set in rock effect surroundings. I would highly recommend paying that extra to have a swim up.
Tip - request a swim up in 500’s room number range as the sun is facing the terrace till about 4 pm. Those on the other side (400’s) don’t get the sun till late on.
Pools - apart from the swim up there are 2 large pools, both with plenty of available sun beds all day long. The hotel will not allow placement of towels so you don’t have to get up early to guarantee a sun bed.
Beach - the hotel is right on the beach. It is a pebble beach which doesn’t suit us so we stayed around the pools. Also, during the 2 weeks, it was windy every day, sometimes very windy so the sea was too rough.
Food/drink - we were on an all inclusive package. The food in the buffet restaurant has plenty of choice but mostly only just warm enough. I did mention this to customer relations, who suggested I tell the staff, but I couldn’t see what they could do as all the food is kept in serving tureens. However, for 2 weeks we managed.
The hotel also has 2 other restaurants. Guests on AI can use one of them (Argo) once a week included in the package. The other has an extra charge and this is the only quibble I had. We are used to AI means AI - no extra charges. I think they should at least have offered a % discount at this restaurant. Guests on HB got a 40% discount if they dined at Argo. I would have thought the same should apply to AI guests using the second restaurant. The 2 meals we had at the Argo were lovely and made a nice change from the buffet.
As far as drinks are concerned, the AI does have a limit but to be honest there are so many which are included you don’t need anything else, and the drinks included are branded, not just the local Greek variety. If you wanted any of the “finer” drinks then there is a small extra but pay, but lots of cocktails, spirits, wine, sparkling wine all included. There is also a stocked mini bar in the room, restocked every day with beer and soft drinks.
Location - there’s nothing much else in the area, no restaurants you can walk to but there is a local bus which costs 2 Euros to get to Kos town and only takes about 15 minutes. In Kos town there are lots of tavernas, bars etc which again make a nice change from the hotel. We did this 3 times and enjoyed it. I can recommend a taverna called The Three Spoons, which is off the sea front and up a side street. Good food and lovely service.
Trips - the hotel can book trips for you, which are cheaper than if you book though TUI. We did the 3 islands boat trip, which was good. Full day, early lunch (which I have to say was disappointing), swim stop, then the final stop to an island with about an hour before the trip home. We’ll worth the 40 Euros pp (apart from lunch).
Overall, we had a brilliant holiday. Astir Odysseus is a bit more expensive than the usual Kos hotels but well worth it. We plan to revisit sometime in the future.
If you take the plunge…enjoy!
Oh, just one last thing. We booked the whole package through TUI and paid just over £900 extra for the AI for 2 people. The hotel offers an AI upgrade for HB guests for 37 Euros per day, per person, and although I didn’t work out the maths, it seems that doing it that way could be a little cheaper.

We had a great week at Astir Odysseus. The hotel is great, we had a swim up room which was lovely & the main pool is excellent. Given the Covid restrictions the hotel felt very safe & clean, up early one morning we even saw staff disinfecting sun beds. The food was very good, despite it being an all inc buffet it still felt authentic Greek. The hotel has it's own app & you order drinks by the pool and book dinner reservations on this which is brilliant. Inside the buildings guests wear masks & staff have masks on at all times everywhere.

The system for keeping everyone safe at dinner is that the staff serve you so you don't touch the serving utensils. This works ok just but often there were insufficient staff on & people jumped the queue meaning you were stood waiting a while so by the time you got all of your food, some of it was cold. It would have been better if they had given you gloves one entering the buffet so you could serve yourself as other hotels have done. However, given the restrictions that the hotel are working within, this was a minor issue.

This was a bit of a last minute trip due to the bad weather in the UK.

Firstly I would start by saying the hotel is fantastic, check-in was smooth. Note you have to download an app to check-in and this is then used for booking the restaurant, drinks at the sun lounger etc..

We had a family room and this was a very good size. The kids were then in a separate room on the other side of the bathroom. It was clean comfy and perfect for us.

The staff are amazing, nothing is too much trouble and they do what is asked. Sometimes we've been to hotels where you ask for things and they dont get done. One tip if you are a couple. Ask for the bed to be changed to a double, rather than two singles.

The pool area is clean, we decided to pitch up at the far side do the lagoon pool, which was much quieter away from the kiddies pool and bar. Ordering drinks was easy with the app if you didnt want to stroll to the bar each time. The only downside is the toilets are a bit of a walk if you were located at that end of the pool. Note the pool is quite chilly!!

The beach is small but fine. If you're planning on going into the sea I would recommend some overshoes as it is quite stoney and uncomfortable underfoot. The sea I crystal clear and a nice temperature, even in October.

The food in the hotel is of a very good standard and we never struggled to find something new each night. The only downside was sometimes waiting to be served, as you're not allowed to help yourself to anything, but this isnt the hotels fault, it is just a sign of the times we live in.

The only downside we found was the internet was very intermittent, and when you tried to listen to music or a podcast it was constantly dropping out. The IT man in reception was very helpful in trying to resolve this.

It is worth heading into the main town of Kos. We found a fantastic restaurant/bar called Kaseta, it was full of locals, well priced and the food was amazing...

We would definetely return to the hotel.

The location and hotel facilities are great to amazing, with very nice swimming pools, especially for those rooms sharing the semi-private pools which we occupied. The rooms are very quiet, including the air conditioning system that you absolutely don’t hear even at night while being effective.
The 1st negative was the service: using COVID as an excuse, the room cleaning service has been reduced to being done every other day. However the room service, charged at 8€ per delivery, was not limited of course.
The big big issue is the food (and wines): not much is worth the calories intake. Everything is any combination of low quality ingredients/industrially processed/dry/overcooked. This is a disgrace to Greek specialties, if they are even available as the buffet is mostly international (which means European distorted). We thought we may be too demanding but went to Zia village (10km
Away) and for a relatively low price we got amazing food. There is nothing that should prevent the hotel to make the same food, if the manager follow these recommendations: 1. Face reality 2. Hire a sourcing manager who likes eating and taste what he is buying 3. Hire a new chef
The potential to be the best hotel in Kos, but 5 star cannot just be nice location and swimming pool at the beach.

Dear Skroh13, Thank you for choosing Astir Odysseus Kos Resort & Spa for your holidays and we're glad that you appreciated the location, the facilities and the swimming pools. We are sorry to hear that you were unhappy with our services. The staff strives hard to offer high quality services to all our guests. First of all, let us inform you that according to the new health protocols, there is a clear directive to reduce the regular entry into the rooms as well as the daily cleaning. Room service is allowed indefinitely, observing the necessary measures (delivery at the door and not entering the room). Regarding your opinion about food, we regret that we did not meet your expectations but taste is subjective and the quality of our products as well as the services of our colleagues is something for which the majority of our guests praise us for. We hope you will have the chance to visit our resort again in the future. Best regards, Astir Odysseus Kos Resort & Spa

Have just returned from 7 days at the astir Odysseus. Have to say i’m surprised at all the positive reviews as we found it average at best. Staff were generally fairly sullen with the exception of 2 or 3 individuals. Coping as well as they can with Covid, hand wash everywhere, masks indoors, buffet restaurant food served by staff which can take a while but understandable. Rooms being cleaned every other day, disappointing they cannot at least leave fresh towels daily, on the subject of towels most have the texture of sandpaper. Rooms are pretty basic and bathrooms could do with a refresh. Food offering is also very average, and drinks are pretty diabolical with most requiring additional payment.

Overall a pretty disappointing experience as the hotel has the potential to be so much better.

Dear jasonv957, Thank you for taking the time to post your review on Trpadvisor. We are truly surprised to read your comments, especially on sectors our guests usually praise us about. First of all, we are proud to have a dedicated team of professionals who are all eager to give their best services and praised for their friendliness, motivation and hard work. Regarding the room cleaning, we would to note that, according to Greek government's guidelines in regards to covid, the entry to the rooms by hotel staff should be minimised. For that reason, room cleaning and mini bar refill every 2 days is the most frequent we are allowed to. Finally, we have an extended drinks catalogue with prices for half board and all inclusive guests - where a drink is not included in the all inclusive. A vast variety of coffees, soft drinks, alcoholic drinks, cocktails, wines is included in our all inclusive concept. A variety of branded drinks, such as Johnny whisky, Smirnoff vodka, is also included in all inclusive. We regret that we couldn't meet your personal expectations at a hundred percent during your stay, however our intention and norm is not only to satisfy all our guests’ expectations but to exceed them. Best regards, Astir Odysseus Kos Resort & Spa

We stayed at Astir Odysseus for 2 weeks the end of September. We have been to many hotels abroad and can say by far this is the Best 5 Star Hotel we have stayed in. All of the staff from the kitchen staff, The Food Servers, Bar staff, Reception Staff, the Cleaners and the Entertainment team are so friendly and helpful. The staff really do go out of their way to help you. The hotel and the grounds are so clean and immaculate. Due to the COVID, certain things have been put into place such as staff will serve you your food when choosing from the food buffet, this is well co-ordinated and the staff manage it very well. You don't have to wait too long before a Server sees you. There are hand sanitisers everywhere which is good. The App to order your drinks is fantastic you don't have to wait too long before your drinks arrive whilst lounging on your sun bed (please note that the Reception staff have to check you in, to enable you to utilise the app) as we arrived at midnight and could not access the app until the following morning. The food is fantastic, they have a different theme each evening. Our only niggle was there was never a large spoon on the tables, you have to ask for one from the waiters, which I did not understand why. Especially if you want cereal or soup. It would be so much easier if it was already on the table ready for you. That is my only niggle. There is 2 a la Carte's Restaurants. One which you have to pay which we did and the other Restaurant you get a free meal for every 7 days you stay there if you are all inclusive. The meal which we paid for was first class. The location of the Hotel is beautiful with views looking over to Turkey. The location of the hotel is remote however, this did not bother us as we prefer the remoteness. It is only a 20 minute bus ride into Kos Town costing only 2 Euro's per person going and 1.50 Euro's per person on return (you get your return ticket from the ticket booth where you are dropped off) as you are unable to buy the ticket on the bus on your return journey. The rooms are cleaned every other day due to COVID which was fine by us and the room we had was overlooking the sea and Turkey which was great. We mainly stayed by the top pool as the swimming pool by the beach was quite crowded. Like most hotels there is a lot of Sun lounger reserving, which I know is a common problem with most hotels. It was just very annoying when some people would put their towels down at 7 am in the morning and then would not turn up until after lunch which occurred mainly at the Swimming Pool by the Beach. I understand this is not the hotel's fault and is a common issue. The beach is lovely however, it is a stone beach, so pack a pair of shoes for the sea. Overall, we had a fantastic 2 weeks. It was very relaxing, just the holiday we needed. We will definitely be returning to Astir Odysseus in the future.

If you’re looking for a relaxing hotel experience, keep looking as you won’t find it at Astir Odysseus. We fully understand that COVID-19 had lots of impact hotels and how they operate. However, would we had known about the terrible experience we’d have at this hotel, we’d better stayed at home.

If you decide to visit this hotel, bring some time because your check-in will probably take >3 hours (even if you align on early check-in and communicate your arrival time upfront). The reception staff will make you feel unwelcome from the very beginning. Once you finally get a room, it won’t be clean and don’t wait for housekeeping to clean it the next day, as that probably won’t happen. Remember to buy a data package, as the WiFi in the room is so slow that you won’t be able to use it at all. Do count with many other inconveniences throughout your stay.

Also, two final notes:
1. We wanted to highlight that throughout this whole mess, we very much appreciated how the restaurant and entertainment staff adjusted to the current restrictions and was doing their best to make every customer happy.

2. After we complained about cleanliness of the room (it did not by any means meet the standards of a 5* hotel) the reception / management staff for some reason communicated to others that we had laughed about the housekeeping staff. Not sure if the hotel thinks that spreading rumors about their customers will make their own actions look better, but that was definitely far from professional.

Dear melina676, Thank you for choosing “Astir Odysseus Kos Resort & Spa” for your holidays and we're glad that you appreciated the restaurant and the entertainment team. We are sorry to hear that you were unhappy with our services. The staff strives hard to offer high quality services in a very difficult period we are going through due to coronavirus pandemic. First of all, let us inform you that according to the new health protocols, the extension of check-out and check-in between stays (check-out until 11.00 am and check-in from 3.00 pm) is mandatory. This change in the time interval between each check-in and check-out between different customers is required to ensure that the room is cleaned, thoroughly disinfected and adequate natural ventilation of the space is followed. In addition to reporting the Wi-Fi issue, when we were notified, our IT manager served you immediately. The Housekeeping service it’s not allowed daily due to the new health protocols but we provided it every two nights of stay. This information was given to you upon arrival with an information leaflet. We assure you that no kind of rumour has been spread, but as the hotel staff respects every guest, so we expect our guests to respect the hotel staff who are constantly trying hard to offer high quality services. We hope you will have the chance to visit our resort again and experience the good food, friendliness of our staff and high standard quality of our services that the majority of our guests praise us for. This was the best holiday after 3 being cancelled due to covid. The hotel grounds and rooms were lovely and spotless. Rooms cleaned every other day due to covid which was not a problem for us. We stayed in a swim up room and after reading reviews about the rooms in the 400’s been in the shade all day I emailed the hotel asking for a sunny room which they accommodated. Our room was situated in a great spot by the main pool which leads to the beach. As in previous reviews we knew the beach was stony so take rubber sole water shoes to make it easier walking into the sea, there was sandbags on one part but definitely could do with being made wider. All drinks are ordered via an app and the service was first class never waiting long. The cocktails were ok but if you wanted certain ones or fresh orange juice you had to pay extra which is a shame when all inclusive. We went to Argo restaurant twice during our two week stay at no cost and I have to say both occasions were probably the best meals I’ve ever had and the service was fab. The main restaurant Archilles never failed to impress us with the wide variety of food and outstanding taste. The staff were so lovely and greeted you like they were genuinely please to see you and always remembered drinks we like. Panos the restaurant manager was amazing and made us feel so welcome and could see him constantly checking everything was running smoothly in both restaurants and was always happy to have a chat. All the bar staff were lovely and we spent most of our days and nights in the Dawn bar and again they always were so friendly and knew our drinks and names. All the staff are a credit to the hotel from cleaners to managers. Our only downside was how cold the pools were (I like warm water though 🙈) I’m sure in the height of summer it is much warmer and lots of people enjoyed the pool. Don’t hesitate to book this hotel we would definitely go back.

Mrs Hati, her team and all of the hotel staff work tirelessly to provide first class and attentive service.
The hotel room, communal areas and grounds are immaculately clean and very well maintained.

If you are unsure whether to travel during these strange times, then I can reassure you that our experience was nothing but enjoyable. The process through the Kos airport was very efficient and check in at the hotel was simple. We were able to spend a carefree week eating delicious food, swimming in the crystal clear pools and relaxing with varied evening entertainment.

The only reminders of the Covid-19 regulations were hand sanitising stations, staff wearing masks/gloves and staff serving your food (instead of self serve).
Tables in the bars and restaurants and sun loungers were all appropriately distanced and all fellow guests were respectful to one and other.

So if you would like to escape reality for a short while and feel safe and well looked after then this is the perfect hotel.

Thank you Astir Odysseus, we will see you next year :-)

Booked here after the Covid cancellation of trip to Turkey. Choose this hotel as it was practically across the sea from our cancelled hotel. The Astir turned out to be amazing. Booked thru Jet 2 who were also very helpful getting us booked in with all the world travel problems currently. From arrival late on. Friday night it was easy to see this hotel is top class. We had a swim up room which was very nice but would choose one of the ground floor sea view rooms when we return next time, as I’m sure we will. They were well placed for the large pool and beach with the beach bar and Argo Restaurant close
Variety and quality of food at the numerous eating venues was excellent. All staff were so helpful and friendly. Only thoughts were that the beach did not seem to match the quality of the rest of the hotel. But we are not all that keen on beaches so perhaps not the best to comment on it. But it did seem popular with many of guests so can’t have been too bad. Covid measures were well in place and enforced so the whole place felt really safe. Nothing at all seems to be around the resort entrance. So it’s a 12 euro taxi or local bus to Kos town or Tigaki for alternative food or exploring. Just a note that if you depart late in the day you still check out and pay at 11.00 am but are then Ok to use the facilities and eat if on all inclusive until you depart. There are showers available for trip home changing if needed. We did try to book our room thru to 18,00 hrs which was quite expensive at 80.00 euro. But air traffic strikes meant that the planning of such things was not possible but the staff were exceptional in ensuring we were looked after before we departed. The ordering of pool side drinks and Bfast lunch and dinner in the restaurants on the hotel app was v efficient and well used by us. We do plan to return in the future. The entertainment team are unobtrusive but work hard to offer entertainment to those who want it Had a very good massage at the spa. Prices are extremely high but you can negotiate prices with the spa team as they circle the sunbeds. Overall one of the best places we have stayed in.
