We spent a night while hiking the GR2. A basic accommodation in a 4 people dorm. The value for money is great with clean rooms and friendly service. The food was quite good and as much as you can eat style. It made a nice change from the typical creole food of the other gite.

Gite de Vulcan: We spent two nights at Gite de Vulcan in July, 2016.. The dorm we stayed in had 5 rooms (the room we stayed in has two bunk beds very very cramped), two toilets and two showers in a separate building. The supplied linen is very old. A cosy fire warmed up the the bungalow. The bathroom was...

Helpful, friendly staff. No frills accommodation and catering. Ideal for an Alpine start to get to the crater rim of the (active) Piton de la Fournaise by sunrise. A six hour return trip - no technical difficulty but a tiring walk across lava fields. The Gite de Volcan couldn't be better.

We payed 18 euros per person for a bed in a 4-bed room. The value for the money is absolutely ok! You have everything you need, the bunk beds are comfortable with pillows and warm blankets and they even provide bed sheets (which is rather unusual for a refuge). The sanitary rooms are small, but sufficient and there is a...

You'd only stay here if you had to, to get to the volcano early or as part of a longer walk. Only earns the third star by dint of the location. Minuscule 2 Bed chalet is made unnecessarily basic, tiny uncomfortable double bed (but there are about a dozen spare blankets so in bed you won't be cold), shower over...

What a great place to come across some of the people we had met during our trek. We didn't do the GR R2, but came across a lot of people who did, and we coincided with some of them in the give. Dinner is buffet style, rich and OK. Breakfast is basic, but normal in Reunion standards. And oh what...

the place is well kept, nice garden around, the room was clean and you have all you need overnight there - the blankets, duvet and pillow. It was raining outside when we came and there was a fire lit inside the cottage where we can put our wet shoes and clothing. The diner and the breakfast was super, tasty, nicely...

It's a simple but pleasant place to spend the night. They provide plenty of blankets and the dining room is warm and has a nice atmosphere to meet other backpackers. The food was very generous and they even prepared a special vegetarian meal for me which my friends almost preferred to they're own meal ;)

We finished our 1.5 week hiking trip in this gite, and it was OK. Superb view and directly at the starting point to go onto the volcano. As others said, cold water in showers, basic. We had a two bed room (bunk bed), very small, but what do you want more. Enough for our backpacks. The food was good.

We stayed here in August. The location is good for what you go there for but that's about all there is to recommend it! The rooms are dark and cold, it was freezing in August even with 3 blankets on. Theres one toilet in each bunkhouse, the showers are cold and theres no way you'd take one after a days...
