I travelled here as an independent traveller with a friend following a huge following of the British ,over the series Death in Paradise. Le Rayon Vert was a fabulous place to stay . The rooms were very private with each having a very picturesque terrace overlooking the garden and the local bay . They were spacious with a great wet room area , large bathroom and a reasonable sized fridge . Rooms were exceptionally clean with beds made up every morning.Sheets and towels were replaced every few days . The public area which consisted of a communal area of restaurant, bar, pool area was very spacious. The included breakfast was very good , plenty for every taste . There was always a different member of staff on duty each morning. Billy was fantastic and very friendly but there was a blonde lady who refused to make the effort with us , we always joked , she hates the English !! I think she was just miserable ! We ate at the hotel restaurant on one evening only . I found it to be exceptionally expensive for an average meal . We observed that although predominately French speaking , our attempts at French language as English speakers were ignored and shut down . No interest from the young to engage or learn from other cultures despite our best efforts. Many reviews make mention of the need for a hire car . I beg to differ ! We managed with taxis , pre booked and trips organised from the UK in advance. We spent about £300 in total in taxis over 12 days . Significantly cheaper than a hire car for 12 days I think. We had a fantastic stay but previous reviews mention a lack of genuine warmth from the owners .. I have to stay that I tend to agree with this comment . Whilst we were always greeted with a Bon Soir from the owners , it was felt to be a generic comment with little sincerity . I would definately stay again but I am an independant traveller who likes to do her own thing , as does my friend . If you are looking for a place to stay with support from your hosts , this may not be the place for you .

Had a great meal here on my birthday earlier this month. Server (and cook!) was very friendly and took time to explain what was in each dish. There is a limited but delicious menu and it’s so good to know nothing dead is being sneaked onto your plate! Good drinks too. Pleasantly calm and friendly atmosphere with an international feeling on our visit. Definitely a place to seek out for a good, wholesome meal. Ten out of ten!! Thank you Soleil Vert.

Overall property very good rooms clean and excellent views everything worked nice bar area with pool nearby plenty of space no problems getting a sun bed etc draw backs were it was isolated with no way of getting to the village at night as there were no taxi so without a car you were stuck and we found the restaurant at the hotel very poor all the food was way over cooked and everything was served with a boring salad and rice however the wine was reasonable with a good choice of french and there is a resident parrot

The location is great and the service by a super nice petite young lady in the evening shift in reception was great (I could have used a bit more of enthusiasm from the rest of the staff). The atmosphere is super nice, the facilities are up to date and the food in the restaurant is good. The breakfast is quite basic though, the availability of products was scarce and working in hospitality I always expect breakfast tables to be cleaned up just after the customer is leaving. Otherwise the impression of the breakfast area could be deteriorated, which is what happened. In our 2 mornings many of the tables were still full of the dishes and glasses from the previous customers. Also, it would be great to offer a sustainable alternative to plastic straws in cocktails, they shouldn’t be used anymore. The rest was great! I recommend it and hope they improve these little things.

Staff not as professional as expected for a 3 stars and at such price. Arrival with no special attention. it feels like embarrassing. Room full of mosquitos with no spray available, No bootle of water in the room at the arrival. Breakfast with no fresh fruit, just a fruit salad coming from frozen food... Never mind the dinner food. Another frozen food story. That's a drama. I will not advise it.

Le Rayon Vert is a great base to have when exploring Basse-Terre. The view is simply breathtaking! It was quite special to be able to return to Le Rayon Vert after a day of scuba diving in both Deshaies and Bouillante. The hotel is off of the main road but the gites are built on a hillside overlooking La Coque Ferry. The rooms are extremely clean and the beds are very comfortable. All the rooms have a view of the bay. The rooms are rustic and simple and they don’t provide toiletries. The best view to be had is from the infinity pool directly in front of the restaurant and bar. There is no place to watch the sunset better than from Le Rayon Vert. Thé bar serves gréât drinks and thé restaurant serves delicious and healthy local food especially fish and other seafood. I loved the owner’s little dog who was always hanging out by the reception area, as well as the cat and the parrot at the entrance. If you are looking for an excellent place to relax on a Carribean island, book a stay at Le Rayon Vert. (This is a very late review as I stayed here in June 2017 but upon writing this, I am seriously looking for an excuse to go back soon)

We thoroughly enjoyed our four day stay at Le Rayon Vert. The hotel is a 10 minute drive south of the village, you’ll need a car. Warm, welcoming and nicely casual, the hotel represents good value in the nicest part of Basse-Terre, close to restaurants and fabulous beaches as well as the Jardin Botanique. Plus A large infinity pool, large clean well furnished rooms with great shower rooms and terraces with sea views. Nice staff, attentive proprietors who work hard on the detail, car parking, a good bar and restaurant serving simple but well prepared food made from quality fresh ingredients. Good breakfast. Very peaceful and relaxed. Good value. Minus We came in May. May 8 is the Victory Day public holiday and the hotel was rammed full of locals coming for lunch then using the pool until the evening, car parking was not possible other than on the busy main road - and up a hill a fair distance. I’d say avoid public holidays! The pool is very well chlorinated. I developed chlorine burn. I swim every day for two hours in a chlorinated pool at home and yet have never had a problem. Maybe I was just unlucky here or just swam more than the other reviewers. That said you are 5 minutes from Grande Anse so what’s the problem? - the salt of the bay and a little anti-histamine cream helped sort out the burn of the pool!

Everything was nice enough, but lacked genuine hospitable warmth. It’s a small hotel but we did not feel like welcomed guests. Room was clean, spacious with little amenities. It would have been nice to have a bottle of water, more than 2 thin towels, soap at the sink etc. Infinity pool beautiful, but lounge chairs need an upgrade. Breakfast good enough. WiFi spotty. Go with little expectation of hospitality and you will not be disappointed.

The rooms are basic, but to get to them, you need to walk on the outside and down steep, narrow steps, without railings. The bathroom window doesn't have glass, so bugs can get in, and did. Our friend got bitten, and the bites for weeks. When we tried eating outside on our deck, we were attacked by huge black bugs.
