We have spent first week of July 2021 at Dachsteinkönig resort and we have enjoyed a lot our stay (our kids didn´t want to leave and want to come back shortly). As it is difficult to reflect in a written text all the beautiful spots and wonders of this resort I encourage anybody interested to visit the resort website which contains very good videos and a high-quality 360 virtual visit. The elements we consider the hotel landmarks are: 1. Extremely nice and helpful hotel staff. Everybody is super nice and always willing to help and make your stay pleasant: front desk, waitstaff, kids club staff, covid-testing staff, restaurant staff, etc... 2. Activities for kids, teens and parents are great: there is a wide range of offer and in all cases instructors are super nice and everything is very well oganized. 3. Our kids attended the hotel football camp and it was as well very well organized. Stefanie is the person coordinating it and she was super professional and nice with us always taking into account our special requirements in terms of language/covid measures. 4. Food at the restaurant is great and there is a changing variety of options every night. 5. Rooms views (we stayed at Liesel suite) are stunning 6. There are so many outdoors and indoors amenities (indoor pool water slides, outdoor pool, sand playing area, trampolines, bouncy castles, mini go-karting, virtual reality, zip line..) that it is literally impossible to get bored 7. The resort requires covid test to check in and then all guests are tested every 48 hours I definitively recommend to any family with kids looking for a top resort. Everything is prepared and thought so that the stay is truly pleasant for all guests and staff is constantly trying to make your stay even more pleasant. The only one thing to improve (although not sure if it was a bad coincidence on the week we were there) is the huge amount of flies around the resort. Reducing this would definitively improve the guest experience (specially indoors).

Hi marvancouver2017! Thank you so much for your fantastic review and kind words regarding the Dachsteinkönig and the whole team, we are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay! We will of course pass on your praise to Stefanie for the super organisation of the Football Camp - it was a great success for all. We totally take on board your comments regarding the flies in that time. However, Europe wide were experiencing an extreme amount of flies and we hope this did not spoil your enjoyment too much. Once again, thank you for taking the time to write us such a positive review and we look forward to welcoming you back to the Dachsteinkönig again soon. With our best wishes from Gosau Erik Höll Guest Services / Reception

I've just spent three nights at Dachsteinkonig (July 2021) with my wife and two small children. As others have stated, the price was a bit high, but in the end, I also felt that there was good value for money. Here are some thoughts I have on different aspects of the hotel. COVID: So let's start with this. Restrictions were just dropped, and you basically wouldn't know that there had been a pandemic while staying here. I can count on one hand the number of people I saw wearing masks, and there was no social distancing. I don't say this as any sort of criticism of the people or the hotel - everyone was behaving according to the rules - I just mention this to those who are looking to have a more cautious vacation. It felt nice to have a degree of freedom again, but this type of open environment might not be everyone's cup of tea at this point. Reception/Front Desk: Of all the hotels I've ever stayed at, I think that this front desk staff is clearly the best. Extremely friendly and helpful. Sandra in particular was great - she not only showed us our room and explained everything, but so helpful with a maintenance issue we had. I came to her later as our door was broken, and expected her to say that she would call maintenance or that it would have to wait until morning. Instead, she asked if she could go up to the room right away and see if she could fix it herself - and she was able to do so. Love the initiative. Overall, I also really appreciated how whenever I approached the desk, someone dropped whatever they were doing to help me - instead of (in American hotels in particular) they would finish the task at hand and make me wait until they were ready for me. Only once was I not served right away as there was someone in front of me, and the one person that was free was clearly working on something - he signalled the others that I was waiting and three different staff members then asked if I could help. Just amazing staff there. Flies: So, I mention this not to deter anyone as I don't think the problem is horrendous, but in the hopes that someone from the hotel sees this and does something about it. The hotel was lousy with flies while we were there. The first day, we were constantly waiving them away from our food. The flies appeared less over the next few days, but while in the Wellness Centre, I was literally every minute shooing them away from me while trying to relax. My last day, I counted 16 of them hanging around the bowling alley. The hotel really has to do a bit more to control these flies - I haven't seen so many since a two-star hotel stay in Mexico in my younger years. Our room: We got the Liedl room, which was well appointed. Appreciated the clothes drying rack on the balcony. Pillows had no substance to them, and anything from the pillow menu cost 5 euros - maybe bring your own if you're picky. No AC and no ventilation, meaning that doors/windows had to be left open for any air flow....but this invites the bugs in as well. Overall, the room wasn't bad, but I also wasn't overly impressed with it. It was the least noteworthy part of our stay. Kids Club: We definitely appreciated the opportunity to drop off our kids and go do our own thing. Our kids liked the excursions, and the only cost seemed to be the entrance fee. Definitely sign your kids up early though, as the more popular events get full. Outside of those activities, my kids (6 and 9) didn't have much fun/interest in hanging out in the club itself with the teachers. Wellness Centre: A great place for parents to relax without kids around (though a couple were snuck in with parents during my stay). Lots of different saunas to try, and I liked the salt they put out daily for the steam sauna. Don't be deterred by the "nude" part of it - you are allowed to be as clothed as you want, and the staff won't say anything. iPads and phones are also allowed in (in silent mode). Food: The food was consistently good, often great, and at times, outstanding. I've attached photos of some menus while I was there. Here are the dishes that really did it for me: - Grilled meats (steak): perfectly cooked and overly seasoned (which is probably why I liked it), this is something I would love to have on a regular basis. - Salami pizza (July 6): Whoever made the pizza this day is amazing. Billowy, chewy crust, with a thick (by Austrian standards) and delicious layer of cheese on top. Possibly the best pizza I've had in Austria - and we've had a lot. The pizza the following days was average at best - they need to shift the chef that was doing the pizza on the 6th onto this station on a permanent basis. - Cream of corn / Cream of broccoli soup: If they sold this stuff in cans, my pantry would be fully stocked with it on a regular basis. Super addictive. - Grilled whitefish: also on the 6th, a very delicious piece of fish, with a golden crust. Really well done. - Salmon: They had lots of differently-prepared salmon available throughout my stay, and all of it excellent. I liked the tartar, the smoked salmon, the grilled salmon, and the salmon sushi. The salmon sushi though was made with a ridiculous amount of rice - I assume to make people fuller on cheaper rice so they didn't eat as much of the expensive stuff. I personally just took the fish off and left the rice to the side - the ratio was all wrong and would have ruined the experience. The chef should really use proper proportions of fish to rice - doing otherwise looks like they are inexperienced, and might be self-defeating if everyone else (like me) just forgoes the rice entirely. - Chocolate mousse desserts: they used this in a variety of desserts, and each one was awesome. - Oberio pork: just perfectly cooked. Nuff said. - Spaghetti carbonara: the pasta itself was quite good, but loved the presentation in the hallowed out parmesan bowl. The only time I saw that station with a line-up; the other times, there were only some weak-looking asian dishes on offer. Overall, we stuffed ourselves silly throughout the trip. Nothing is served after 8pm, but easy enough to take whatever you want from bfast/lunch/dinner and pack with you later for snacking. Perhaps I wasn't "wowed" as we were just eating at the same buffet everyday so the experience/ambiance didn't seem anything special, but pretty much every meal had something really amazing to enjoy. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the great waitstaff - always incredibly friendly, and so quick to remove dishes. The food was definitely a highlight of our stay. Pool: This is the smallest pool I've ever seen at an all-inclusive hotel. That said, I never felt that it was crowded - perhaps because the hotel only has rooms for about 70 families (and I was told they were at full capacity), and because there were so many other activities for others to do. Outside sunbeds were scarce on the really nice days, but there's a second level of chairs the floor above next to the inflatable castles, as well as some outdoor space with a small splash pool in the wellness centre. My kids loved the waterslides and swimming in the pool itself. Definitely a great feature of the property, and loved the views. Outside water features are activated by an underwater button along the walls near said features. Note that there are no lifeguards, so you'll want to keep a close eye on your kids yourself. Swimming lessons also fill up, so register early if you're interested. Spa: I didn't go, but my wife enjoyed her massage. The masseuse was flexible enough to give her a face massage instead of a foot massage, as per my wife's preference. Alcohol: Not included in the all-inclusive package. The prices didn't look terribly expensive, and it's an extensive wine list. My wife enjoyed the couple drinks that she ordered. VR: Each room is given a 45 minute session for free; any additional sessions are around 15 euros. Not many fun games available in my experience there. The Spider-Man game was good, but it's only a quick 5-8 minute demo. Mini-golf was amusing, and the blue ocean one was definitely pretty. The plank game - where they shoot you up an elevator and you step out of a plank over the city - was really well done. Open the control panel to the left for some additional surprises...including a couple scary ones. May as well do it as the first session is free, but I could easily have done without it. Downstairs gymnasium: great area for kids to burn off some steam. My son found a bunch of kids to play soccer with on a regular basis. It would be ideal if a staff member were around though to run games/activities. One night, a kids club instructor was there and organizing the soccer game - my son had a great time, and even hung out with the kids afterwards. The nights that there was no instructor, there were complaints of bullying and unnecessary roughness. It would be a better experience if someone could go and supervise the soccer there during the peak times. Games room: a favorite of my youngest son, with foosball, air hockey, something called smashball, and bowling. Video games were there as well, but not the highlight for us. A great way to spend time with the family. Go-Karts: one euro per ride, with tokens purchased from the front counter. Bike batteries seem to be in various conditions, and one of them ran out of juice on us during our ride. Fun for the little kids. Overall service: I've mentioned some specific examples above, but overall, the staff were incredibly friendly. I love how there was a "departure bag" for us filled with goodies, and the kids were given the chance to choose a Dachsteinkonig-themed toy from a toy chest when our stay ended. Just a great vibe that was created by the team there. This is a long recap, and still didn't cover elements that we didn't get to - the adult activities, some specialized kids activities (archery with real arrows, horse back riding in the stables), and the few excursions they had available. My kids were sad to leave and want to come back...and the parents wouldn't mind either. Can't give a higher compliment than that!

Hi Warren, Thank you for an amazing review of our Dachsteinkönig. We really appreciate just how much detail you have taken with your review which will be so helpful to future guests. We will be sure to pass your compliments to Sandra in particular and also our amazing Pizza chef on the the evening of 6th July! With regard to the fly issue, we agree with your that the flies where at that time they were very annoying. However, we were experiencing a Europe wide fly issue and hope that it did not spoil your stay. So thank you so much for your time and positive feedback. We look forward to welcoming you back to us here at the Dachsteinkönig, Gosau! With our heart felt best wishes Erik Höll Guest Services / Reception

The Familux Dachsteinkoenig is very good family hotel which offers loads of activities and facilities for kids both indoors and outdoors. There are playgrounds, a soft play centre, indoor pool, outdoors pool, paddling pool, slides, tunnel slide, a sand pit, a bouncy castle, a little animal farm, go carts and more... Meaning that staying at this hotel will make your kids happy, and you, as parents, happy in return. The Kids’ club team was very friendly and attentive towards our daughter. They offered a good verity of activities. Rooms Our room was specious and our daughter enjoyed the bunk beds and the little hideaway cave she had. As for the drawbacks: No air conditioning! This hotel offers no a/c in the guest rooms and hallways. It seems as if the public areas are air conditioned. Nonetheless, booking this hotel during he summer season means running the risk of ending up in a stifling room. We visited late September, so there was no need for an a/c, but, as said, the story could be different during the hot summer months. Towel Quality and System Firstly, the towels’ quality could be better - meaning: bigger, thicker and softer. Moreover, both pool area towels and the ones you need in your room, are deliveries daily to your room. This means that there are no towels in the pool area and that one needs to carry the towels from the room to the pool or spa. Not a huge burden. However, should you wish to come to the pool more than once per day or need more than one towel per day, per person, you’ll have to find a member of the housekeeping team to exchange it (which they’ll be more than happy to do). In this respect, the hotel should find a way to make towels more available at the pool area. Food Food quality is in general very good and there’s a big variety. However, some things are repetitive and as other reviewers have mentioned, last nights’ dinner usually ends up on today’s lunch. Especially the deserts. The restaurant area should also have a better ventilation system. Our clothes always smelled like the buffet’s frying station after a meal. Post Stay About 5 days after leaving the hotel, we got a call from them stating that they had forgotten to charge us the princely sum of 11€ for a couple of drinks. Somehow someone had decided that placing the hotel’s reputation at risk is worth less than those 11€. I’ll leave you to be the judge of this sort of behaviour.

It was our second time staying at this hotel. First time three years ago (right after its opening) and just finished our second stay. We were pleasantly surprised that the quality stayed the same and many thing got even better. We have three kids and have been to a number of kinderhotels in Austria and other countries as well. This one is by far the best. Would like to start with kids club - best we have ever seen, such a personal approach. The ratio of staff to kids is really good, so you can feel confident that your kids are safe and well entertained... there is a number of different activities/shows etc. so they are never bored... our kids didn’t want to leave kids club :) Skiing area is not big, but right next to the hotel, which is very easy. The hotel is very luxurious, the rooms, restaurant, spa etc. Swimming area is very well set up with slides for big and small! All meals are buffet style but the choice and quality are to a high standard. All in all great choice for families with kids looking for fun and relaxing holiday.
