Nestled near the town center and a national park, Casitas Tenorio B&B offers a serene retreat with a rainforest trail that has won the hearts of many travelers. The service here is consistently highlighted for its warmth and efficiency, contributing to the welcoming ambiance that guests experience. Although the lack of in-room Wi-Fi is noted, the spotless and spacious rooms, complete with tasteful decorations, are much appreciated. The B&B's amenities, including the immersive rainforest setting and farm tours, add to the enchantment, despite some connectivity issues in common areas.

If you want to be surrounded by nature any comfort, this is the place.
The “casitas” are bungalows scattered in the rainforest, with superb views of it and the life that goes with it (toucans, screaming monkeys, squirrels, coatis). They have a bathroom, a small kitchen (microwave, sink, dishes, fridge). Mosquito nets and fans are functional, there is no air conditioning. It is beautifully decorated, comfortable and clean.

There is a common room at the entrance for breakfast. The managers are very friendly and will give you a wealth of information (restaurants nearby, walks) that are included in binders made available. The city is 5 min by car, Volcano Tenorio Park 20/25 min.
There is a small trail in the property (20 min walk) and a tour is organized every morning at 7am (included).

What a lovely place to stay! This B&B is only a short drive from downtown Bijagua but it feels like you are in the middle of the rainforest. We stayed in Casita La Luna and it was beautiful. There is a little kitchenette which is great since all the restaurants around town give huge portions – we kept leftovers in the fridge and microwaved them later. The breakfasts are amazing and I would really recommend spending time in the common area watching the wildlife and chatting with other guests. It was, in a word – peaceful! You really are in the middle of the jungle so, if you are really sensitive to noises when you sleep, bring some earplugs – but really that is all part of the experience. The host, Nana, is really nice and can give you advice about activities in the surrounding area, however, if you are going during the busy season I would recommend booking activities in advance. The Heliconias Hanging bridges are only a 5-minute drive away and the small town of Bijagua has some nice restaurants. Great location for Tenorio National Park, tubing, and other activities.

We stayed here over Christmas 2023, with our two children (aged 10 & 8). We had a great time. The Lodge we stayed in was well appointed and clean, and the setting itself is stunning, with beautiful lush greenery all around, and wildlife everywhere (one morning we saw a family of howler monkeys in the trees outside our lodge as we walked in the to breakfast). Nana, the manager, was incredibly hospitable and welcoming, and is hugely proud of the area, and keen to promote Costa Rican culture. We did a night walk in Tapir Valley and also a cooking course in a local family's home. Both were incredible experiences, which I would certainly recommend. Casitas Tenorio is a lovely place to stay, with a very warm welcome, and we enjoyed our time there very much.

We had such a lovely time at Casitas Tenorio! Nana and Jeff were wonderful hosts and made us feel so welcome from the moment we arrived. They were so helpful with recommendations for meals and things to do in the area. We stayed in the lovely Casita Sol with our two boys, 10 and 7. The covered porch was a wonderful spot to enjoy morning coffee and listen to the birds. Everything was immaculately clean and comfortable. A note about WIFI.. they intentionally do not have wifi in the casitas in order to encourage guests to truly unplug. It was a welcome surprise for our family, but might be good to know for some folks before they go. Breakfasts were delicious each morning! Highly recommend staying here!

My husband and I spent a week at Casitas Tenorio -- our first trip to this part of Costa Rica. We had a fanstastic trip and being at this BnB was a big part of what made it great. Nana and Jeff, who manage Casitas, are welcoming, helpful, available and knowledgeable about the area. We depended on them for local knowledge about activity options and road conditions, particularly because unseasonable heavy rains affected what was "doable". They were so helpful! Our casita was wonderful-clean, comfortable, private, and had a open air porch surrounded by rainforest. Breakfast (included) was served in an open-air cafe also within rainforest. We kept our binoculars with us at all times, there were so many birds to see (toucans and mot mots at breakfast everyday). The entire property (and buildings) are attractive and well-designed. The trail on the property was walk, too. Casitas Tenorio is very convenient to so many things to do--the national park, Tapir Valley reserve, rafting, various tours and walks....and the town of Bijaqua is pleasant, friendly, and has some nice dining options. We'll be back

We loved our stay at Casitas Tenorio. We stayed in the Casita Pura Vida which felt like it was surrounded by jungle despite being just steps from the shared breakfast area. The casitas have everything you’d need—microwave, mini fridge, silverware, plates etc. The property is beautiful and has a great little trail with a beautiful lookout. You can walk just up the road to Heliconias Lodge and pay $15 to do a wonderful rainforest trail with hanging bridges and an overlook where you can see Lake Nicaragua. The included breakfast was delicious—a fresh fruit course followed by eggs with other items from the farm onsite or local area. You can see many birds and other animals while just sitting eating your breakfast. We loved sitting on the well covered porch during afternoon rainstorms.

Our family of five stayed at the Casita El Tuscan for two nights, 5/18 - 5/20/24. We found the Casita to be very comfortable and the provided breakfasts to be fresh, delicious, and served with the doting love of a favorite aunty. We were delighted to see Howler monkeys in the trees outside our casita the day of our departure. The best parts of our stay were our interactions with the staff, principally Zissy and Nana. Zissy was generous with her time and helped us order dinner and schedule our night jungle walk. Nana prepared our meals, helped us plan our excursions, and stored our luggage after we’d checked out. More than that, it felt like we were hanging out with people who were genuinely interested in getting to know us.

Comfortable bed, great shower that has large windows yet there is privacy galore. The room has high ceilings, large glass windows that offer incredible views of surrounding vegetation and trees. It's an easy walk to the main dining hall or to the onsite farm. Each morning you are greeted by a vast variety of birds and animals as you enjoy breakfast from a distance. The staff is very accessible, helpful and knowledgeable about local activities and restaurants. The area offers a wide range of activities and the possibility to interact with local community members who are extremely knowledge about fauna and flora in the surrounding area.

What an amazing place. Pip and her family (plus Nana) have created a wonderful spot for guests to experience true Costa Rica. The location couldn't be better. It was just far enough off the beaten path that it was quiet and serene, but close enough to have plenty to do. While there, Nana arranged a fantastic Rio Celeste Tubing tour with Onca Tours (see my review on that for more details - definitely a must do!). We also hiked the hanging bridges at Heliconia (just five minutes away), walked around the farm property (and saw the howler monkeys up close), and visited Rio Perdito (wonderful but our least favorite tour/excursion). There were plenty of restaurants within a 10 minute drive - most cost less than $20 for dinner for two adults, usually with a drink or two. Our favorite restaurant was either the lunch we had with Onca Tours (his wife made the best fish casada I've ever had) or La Terraza.

We stayed in Casita El Bosque, which feels completely private and has wonderful views of the jungle and a gorgeous stone shower. The beds were comfy, the room sparkling clean, and the sounds outside amazing. Breakfasts were plentiful, coffee was hot, and the birds watching from our table were incredible. We saw a Toucan less than 10 feet from us! By the time we left, we felt like family. I cannot wait to return.

My tips: bring bug spray, a rain jacket, a sweatshirt for cooler evenings, and remember that it is in the rainforest without AC. It is an easy drive from Liberia. The last mile or so is a very bumpy road, however, so you have to go slow.

Hello! Casita El Volcan is closer to the entrance of our trail where you can see monkeys and sloths. But having said that recently we had a sloth in a tree near Casita Luna!

Hello Tatan, Thanks for your question, and also thanks to all out wonderful followers who have provided some great insights. We are located in a valley between Volcano Miravalles and Volcano Tenorio and as a result we live in a very rainy area! It rains often, even in the 'dry' season! Our weather is influenced from the Caribbean as the warm air rises and forms clouds right here in our village. We live in a rainshadow effect! We receive over 4.5m of rainfall a year! Having said that, our 'driest' month is March, and the weather is very beautiful at this time. Our rainiest months are November-Februray. Our 'dry' and 'wet' seasons are different from other areas in the country for example in Guanacaste. There are so many microclimates, and we often find people thinking that they are travelling in the 'dry' season and then it rains up here! The 'low' season for us is in May and then in September/October, but having said that we always have someone staying here. We are small with six private bungalows or private 'Casitas'. Even in the middle of peak tourist season, it feels relaxed here. We advise our guests to stay for at least two nights as this allows you to experience the area without having to rush. It also allows you to be flexible with the weather. The Rio Celeste in the Volcano Tenorio National Park can change from the right blue colours you see on brochures to a green or even brown color. This depends on how much it rains for and for how long it rains for. The river constantly flows so it changes back to being blue quickly after the rain (and the sediments) have passed. In regards to WIFI, you can purchase a local SIM card and use the data on the card for internet and your phone as a hot spot. This is a simple and effective way to have internet. We have (poor) WIFI here, it's much faster in the village. The local supplier can not improve the speed here as we are located too far from the central point in the village that distributes the internet. We hope that you can come and stay with us, if you have any further questions please do not hesitate to ask us here or you can also send us an email. In regards to toucans, we have preserved and reforests parts of our property with the habitat and trees that toucans love. We have three types that come and visit us here, fingers crossed that you might be able to spot one when you are here! Thanks again to all the readers who helped to answer this question! We hope you can come back and visit us again soon! Kind regards Pip Kelly Casitas Tenorio B&B

Hi Jeff (and other readers following along!) Avril's answer is perfect! And since May there has been a new restaurant in the village, and we have the menus here. Our receptionists will help you view the menus, the maps and if you want to have food delivered we can set up the table in the communal area as Avril mentions! Also, now on our website you can see some of the places that we recommend to eat at. Happy trip planning, regards Pip Kelly Casitas Tenorio B&B

In EL BOSQUE casita, is there a fan?
Answer from Casitas_Tenorio

Hi Mistyisaq and Mike, Thank you both for (asking) and answering the initial question. We have adjustable industrial ceiling fans in all of our rooms, which provide a nice cool breeze at the strength that you want. At night time, it does indeed get a little chilly at times and you will find there is no need for AC up here in the cool rainforest! We are glad that your both enjoyed your stay here and thanks again for your responses. Kind regards Pip Kelly

Hi Mistyisaq, Thanks so much for posting the initial question and then after your stay providing an updated response. This is most helpful to others who might have a similar question. Thank-you to all the other past guests who were able to make a valuable responses also! We are so glad that you all enjoyed your stay here, and noticed the level of detail we go to when cleaning our rooms. We do live in the rainforest, and our rooms are set amongst lush tropical foliage, which is home to many insects! We take pride in the cleaning of our rooms, our staff clean under all beds and behind furniture and curtains and are very very thorough. Our staff take their time when cleaning and no detail is overlooked! Including looking for pesky insects! We have fly swats and bug spray in each room. The windows all have screens and we attempt to have our rooms as clean as possible. Having said that, you might find some insects in the rooms especially if you leave the door open at night time with the light on inside! And yes, the ants are very very fast, so we recommend keeping any food covered or to place it in the fridge (each room has a fridge). If there is a bug issue, our guests can contact a member of staff and we will gladly help with the issue. Repellent with DEET is a good idea, and there are many natural ones with citronella oil that work really well. We recommend wearing long pants and shirts at night time, if you attract mosquitos. Thanks again everyone for your contributions and we are so glad that you all had a positive experience here! We hope you can come back one day! PURA VIDA from Costa Rica! Kind regards Pip Kelly
