Excellent quality for a modest price. Plenty of onsite parking. Clean, comfortable and warm accommodation. Beats the corporate owned hotels hands down for value. Owners/managers very helpful. Recommended.
We stayed two nights in the John Pearce family suite - two bedrooms, queen and triple. Bathroom is reached via the triple. Really appreciated the supportive mattresses - so many hotel mattresses are too soft and soggy and hurt my back! Lovely historic decor and antique furniture. Bathroom was neat and effective. Would love the addition of a grab rail in the shower and beside loo for when travelling with older relatives. Hosts were kind, respectful and helpful. Enjoyed the simple continental breakfast, and used the dining room a couple of times to make sandwiches using our own food. View of Mt Wellington and river from bedrooms. Lovely old sitting room where the fire was lit on the second night and we sat and chatted with some other guests. The side garden had lots of weeds - would be nice to see that renewed. We chose this one rather than CBD locations because of free parking onsite. It was a good choice and we'd stay again.…
When I think bed and breakfast, focus should be on sleep comfort and breakfast options. The Linda room is spacious, lovely 4 poster bed, but the mattress (bed) and 4 pillow options were quite hard and uncomfortable. Good inexpensive fix would be a quality overlay on the mattress, and bed pillows of varying firmness and softness for guests to choose from. An annoying on and off noise, which i originally thought was old house water pipes, was actually the mini fridge. When the thermostat turns off (every 10 minutes) it rattles the fridge against the timber cabinet... worked this out a 3am. I moved it onto the floor for my stay and no more rattle just the thermostat noise. A non slip matt underneath it would do the trick. Or replace, as fridge would be approx 10-15 years old. Breakfast was 8-9am only, however u could commence eating at 9. Limited to pre-selection on check-in (COVID restrictions) of simple continental offerings. I noted there was no protein options, not even Vegemite for toast. Past management/ownership has offered hot breakfast options, which could still be achieved with COVID restrictions. Bathroom is large and clean, shower space is on the small size as a standard 1 x 1m square. I did not use the spa bath. Easy parking, 10min to city centre, ok gardens, nice sitting room and adequate dinning facilities. Would I stay again, yes if the sleep comfort is addressed and breakfast timings and options are reviewed.…
We stayed at Orana House for 2 nights. The hosts were welcoming and attentive. We stayed in the Ronald Pearce room and found this very clean and comfortable. Only 10 min drive to Hobart so very close to everything. A lovely old home full of charm but would love to see the gardens better maintained.
This is a place I would consider if I were to return to Hobart. Although it is not central (just under 10km from the city) it is full of character, provides breakfast and most of all is clean! It was great to have the availability of the little kitchen to store and prepare simple food. Also good to have on-site parking space.
