Amazingly consistent high level service across the hotel, with just the very odd blip. The setting is great, the rooms are fabulous, the food is mainly very good. The staff are the true assets here - the vast majority smile, are welcoming, helpful and genuine. Margarita in Provence is a complete star - warm, welcoming and always working to the highest standards and the culture/ethos of the hotel. The separate adults pool area is a real boon, though in fairness, parents with children just blended in and were fine; though being able to have a separate space for couples was great The front block of rooms is the best and you really need one on the floor, as faraway from the lifts as you can manage - as there can be late night noise with boozy returners! Connect to their whatsapp systems for meal bookings as soon as you can. You are unlikely to get all the bookings you want, but it is worth sending in some repeat requests for times and restaurants - the staff operating this system do the best they can. Personally we found the French and Greek restaurants the best for our taste, the Asian one was also fine. We had expected the Italian one to be our favourite, however our experience there was not what we had hoped, to be honest. Flavours is the standard buffet type cafe really, a good choice of food, again good service, but a bit canteen like for us. It will suit a lot of people as there is no need to book. We had just one isolated issue each with reception, the shop and enquiry desk, to which the management have responded. The location is lovely,a nice sandy beach and warm sea, only a few minutes away, with good drink and food service if you want it. There is also a beach bar serving nice snacks. In terms of outings or trips, there really isn’t anything local and due to covid you tend to have to sort anything like this out for yourself. There is a local agent in the nearby town of Nea Moudania, which is only a 10 minute walk away - very little was open there, due to it being the end of the season. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

Some friends and family say that I look for faults. It is not true. It is just that where I find them, I often voice irritation and offer recommendations for improvements. All that I could find at the Icos Oceania Hotel, Halkidiki were countless opportunities for praise. Although the hotel boasts nearly 300 rooms, a personal greeting by the manager was accompanied by welcome ‘bubbles’ and the swift and seamless processing of registration and Covid checks and a briefing. Spectacularly built on the side of a steep hill providing wonderful sea views, we were whisked to our rooms on golf buggies closely followed by our luggage. We did not have to ask for this. It was automatic as was their easy access throughout our entire stay; particularly welcomed by some of our party to negotiate quite steep slopes down to the beach. Our standard room was spacious with acres of storage in bedroom and ensuite with more than enough hangers, not irritatingly fixed in the cupboards. Lights and mirrors were in all of the right places and a fridge with a free supply of frequently replenished branded drinks enhanced relaxation on our balcony; all immaculately maintained. Sadly, Covid restrictions prevented use of the internal swimming pool, theatre, cinema and night club and restricted spa treatments We were sceptical in reading of ‘Michelin quality’ restaurants – there are five including an extensive self-service buffet, but it was true. Beautifully cooked authentic, Asian, French, Greek Italian meals, presented with an array of high-quality wines were all again part of the hotel’s inclusive offerings. These were complemented by bars throughout the hotel, the landscaped grounds and five pools, one dedicated to ‘Adults Only’, where they actually knew how to mix real cocktails. Above all however, worthy of the highest accolades, was the charming friendliness, professionalism and efficiency of every member of staff we met during our 7-day stay. From Rooms Division Manager Vangelis and Customer Service Manager Alex, to maids and pool boys, nothing was too much trouble. They were faultless. The hotel should be a training ground for other hoteliers around the world.

With the ability to travel significantly constrained in the last 18 months, our holiday plans have been focused on destinations closer to home, and have been so pleased to have discovered the Halkidiki region of Greece. Having stayed a few times at Ikos Olivia, we decided to give the other Ikos resort in Halkidiki, Oceania, a visit. And we're delighted we did - Oceania was superb! Our whole experience from pre-booking activities like the Mini Experience, Wine Tasting and A La Carte Restaurant reservations, all the way through to our departure was executed with perfection. Whilst the weather wasn't as kind to us as it could have been, October is a bit of a gamble for Northern Greece, and staying in Oceania makes the occasional rainy day a lot more manageable. There were occasions when common areas felt very busy (no doubt related to the aforementioned weather, and the fact there'd been a wedding on the day of our arrival), but there's enough different areas around the resort to find a spot to enjoy the fabulous cocktails and read regardless of what the weather Gods decide. On sunny days, we spent a lot of time lounging by the stunning Infinity pool (a dedicated Adults Only area) located immediately in front of the Provence restaurant which we had lunch and dinner at several times during our stay. The pool did feel a little cooler than others on the resort, but still heated and was lovely to spend time in and around. Sunny evenings involved a trip down to visit Despina (who we met at Olivia the previous year) on the Beach Bar for sun downer cocktails - she's an absolute superstar, and deserves all the praise that so many people mention in their reviews! Oceania has some simply stunning views out towards the Aegean Sea, especially from the restaurants and pools. Many of the rooms will get excellent sea views too, especially blocks 4 and 5, along with the higher floors of the other accommodation buildings. Getting the views is largely down to the land the resort is built on - a big hill, so be prepared for some steep slopes or steps when wandering around. There's also a small fleet of golf buggies which can be summoned in minutes should you feel the need - which we used a couple of times when the weather turned. Oceania offers 4 A La Carte Restaurants (book ahead to avoid disappointment) along with a large buffet restaurant which doesn't need to be booked, along with the main pool bar and beach bar which both offer a snack menu, so there's always somewhere to find food. Our favourite restaurants were Provence and Anaya, but we ate at all 5 throughout the week and always found there to be plenty of choice from the menus. Special mentions to Nestor, Angela, Maria, Margarita, Thea and Thekla for looking after us so attentively in Provence. The triple fried potatoes are outstanding and an Oceania Provence special menu item from what I gather. There is a vast selection of local and international wines available on the various restaurant and bar menus, with some being specific to particular venues. We discovered a number of excellent Greek wines, and learned a great deal from Thea at the Wine Tasting session - something well worth getting booked on to. The resort is spotlessly clean everywhere, the housekeeping and maintenance teams do an outstanding job constantly ensuring the resort looks it's best, and every member of the team, across all departments will always say a chirpy Kalimera/Kalispera and give a huge friendly smile. Rooms are extremely well equipped, with a USB and UK power socket which negates the need to bring additional power adaptors (unless you have a lot of tech that needs charging). Strong high speed Wifi is available in rooms and across the resort. The beds are extremely comfortable, with very high quality linen which made for some excellent nights' sleep. Toiletries provided in the room are high quality Anne Semonin. The minibar comes fully stocked with spirits, beers, soft drinks and water, and gets replenished daily. The in room Nespresso machine was also well used on our stay! As many others have said, the staff at Oceania are superb, be they customer facing, or working behind the scenes. The WhatsApp team are available 8am to 11pm every day to resolve any queries or requests. Everyone of the team is so friendly and helpful, and all seem genuinely happy to be working for Ikos. The management team are always visible and chatting to guests too, something not always the case at high end resorts elsewhere. Special thanks to Vangelis, the rooms division manager, who found us every day to say hello and make sure we were having a wonderful time. In summary, Oceania was a fabulous place to spend our late summer break, and would highly recommend it to anyone that wants a luxurious, all inclusive break in Europe.

As a rule, we always ignore hotel reviews that are AMAZING and those that are HORRIBLE. However, like us, you will have noted that the reviews of the Ikos Oceania are generally close to the former! The reason for this is, it is that good. We have just returned from a week there and would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone wanting a spotless hotel, excellent wine and food and outstanding staff. On arrival we were ushered into the medical room where our vaccine status was quickly checked and approved. We were then immediately taken to the Helios Hall where we were given some bubbly and briefed on the hotel. Whilst this was happening, we were being booked in and the next time we saw out luggage it was in our room. Recommend a high floor for lovely sea views. Fabulous hillside setting with amazing views. However, some of the slopes are steep but golf buggies were readily available if needed. The staff are the hotel’s main asset. They are happy to engage, are friendly and efficient. They don’t know the word no! The hotel’s facilities were also very good... even though 90% full and the weather indifferent, it never felt crowded and importantly the six in our party did not struggle with sun beds on the good days. The pools are heated and inviting (still a bit cool for me though!) and the views out to sea are great. The restaurants offer four choices Greek, Italian, French and Asian. We would recommend them all. The menu choice in each is good and the quality overall excellent. They are in demand and we would recommend making your choices as early as possible... even before you arrive if that suits you. The wine list is extensive and very interesting and goes hugely further than red, white or rose. We got to know some of the staff very well particularly Vangelis, the Rooms Division Manager, and Alex on customer services. They and every one else were happy to go the “extra mile” to make sure we had a great time. Importantly, they were both very keen to know what they were not doing well enough and what they could do to improve. No sign of complacency here!

Our second stay in an IKOS hotel. October weather was bad, but IKOS can’t control that. The staff here are faultless. We had various things we needed sorting and Doru on reception dealt cheerfully and efficiently with all. Despina (sp?) in the beach bar was great fun. Thanks to various other staff too whose names we can’t remember. The view from our sea view suite wasn’t the best (see picture), but the room itself was very good and housekeeping and maintenance were very thorough but low key. Food choice and quality excellent as expected with IKOS.
