This tropical resort was just that. We wanted a quiet getaway away with a kitchenette. Privacy and local entertainment when needed. Beach view and pool side option. We didn't like our bed. Everything we needed was in walking distance. 😋🌴🇧🇧
Having visited Barbados for many years this without a doubt is our favourite place to stay on the south coast. Julia Blackman has always helped us with everything and made our stay amazing. If you are looking for hotel with friendly staff, freshwater pool, on the beach then book here. It’s amazing!!
Hotel and Hotel rooms are clean and have a friendly staff. Great view from the hotel room. Can even make friends with a bird on the balcony. Everything you need is nearby. Great shopping and food. Hotel has a sister hotel where you can get a delicious dinner. Breakfast is not free if you are not on a meal plan.
The major issue for all of our family group, was the broken lift. This should have been declared before we travelled to Barbados. My parents struggled to get up and down to the second floor, as especially did I; as I was on the fourth floor! I have Osgood-Schlatter disease which is a condition that causes pain and swelling below the knee joint, where the patellar tendon attaches to the top of the shinbone (tibia), and makes stairs difficult. We complained to the hotel and they said the lift should be working soon and was to be fixed. However, It did not work for our entire stay. It ruined our holiday and caused us distress and fatigue by the end. I am most aggrieved by this. At the end of the week we were still complaining about the broken lift to a member of staff and was let into a secret that the lift never works and they were not planning on fixing it! This just compounded our upset that we were being fobbed off. Blue Orchids MUST address this issue for all whom stay there and at least give an option of to move somewhere else or be put on a lower level if needed. This was not possible during our stay. The temperature of the water coming from the showers was extremely variable. When set on Luke warm, it went from cool to dangerously hot. It made it difficult to shower as you were in and out trying to avoid getting burned. I believe this to be an health and safety issue. Possibly this would be worse if with young children. It needs looking at. We had three rooms in our party and it was the same in each.…
Lovely hotel, very clean, friendly staff. Near to lots of bars and restaurants. 5 minute walk to supermarket. On a beautiful beach. Rooms were big and a large balcony. Free WiFi that was reliable. Free beach towel hire. Pool was warm. Would return, had a great holiday. We saw turtles swimming in the sea from the beach.
I am a solo traveller and it was the first time I was in Barbados on my own. I was greeted by the friendly and professional reception staff on arrival who made me feel very welcome. Room had outstanding views and very clean. The reception staff genuinely cared about me and my safety, however most of all ensured I had the best time in Barbados!! They booked tours for me and arranged a late checkout. The location is fantastic also. Looking forward to staying here again next year. Lindsay and Julie were fantastic. 5* plus for me!
Ups: The hotel is well situated on the edge of the cliff at Worthing Beach. There is a small swimmable beach just to the left of the property. The pool and pool deck were awesome and we spent a good deal of time there. The apartments are well stocked and meal preparation was easy. The beds were comfortable and the bedrooms spacious. Downs: Decor is dated. The restaurant was closed during our visit due to the off-season which was not advertised. There is no AC in the living room. No bar. Housekeeping was not the best and they took the towels and did not replace them on 2 occasions.
We spent the first week on the island on the west coast and due to spend our second week in the blue orchid. Wr arrived this afternoon to this : Staff asleep In reception No hello or welcome from reception We were asked to oay the room levy but had a feeling that upstairs would have the same feeling of disappointment as we experienced on entering the hotel in the reception, dowdy , smelly and totally run down so did not pay the levy. We were not wrong, we got handed our key and told to carry our bags up the stairs to the 3rd floor as the lift wasn't working, there was no offer of help On entering our room it was dingy, it smell musty, the tiles were cracked, the toilet brush was filthy, stained ceiling, the pillows were discoloured, no information pack In the room , the grounds were dirty, staff were walking around with an unliy cigarette in their mouth, all staff we came across did not acknowledge us apat from the entertainment guy who was lovely. This was double the price of our first week . We stayed at the beach view hotel the first week, the staff were lovely, the facilities were clean, the grounds are spotless , kitchen facilities were excellent and new with coffee and tea being provided. We were so upset that we called beachview and asked if they had any availability, luckily they did and we have therefore booked back In for an extra week , obviously at an additional cost. When we asked the receptionist for our check out paperwork so we could claim through our travel agents they said we couldn't have anything and we would lose the first three nights money. We have ended up out of pocket but the welcome we received on coming back to beach view is no comparison on blue orchid. They welcomed us back and haven't even taken any money off us yet as they could see we were emotionally drained The blue orchid is not a true picture of the Caribbean. Not their fault but the seaweed in the sea is disgusting . We definitely do not recommend this hotel. Please do not waste your money…
We have recently returned after 11 nights in this hotel with our daughter who is 18 and chose the property as it was one of the few hotels we could see when trawling through the options that did not want to put the third adult on a folding bed in the main room! We booked a 2 bedroom deluxe apartment through BA which gave us a double room plus bathroom looking over the pool whilst she had a twin room at the rear of the hotel with her own bathroom too. It was about a 30 second walk from our ground floor rooms to the pool and 2 minutes on to the beach. Perfect. The location is brilliant - easy to get around by using local mini buses and on the beach but also within walking distance of many places to eat and drink with costs ranging from Champers (an arm and a leg) or Mojo the pub type bar over the road or street food a little further away. It is also within a 5 minute walk to two supermarkets but if you are coming from the UK brace yourself as you will find prices a bit crazy for some items and I would recommend bringing tea, coffee, pasta and other staples you might like with you. The rooms we had, had every thing we needed in them and were kept very clean on a daily basis. It was what we expected for the 3 star rating given to the hotel. Staff in the hotel were friendly and helpful from reception through to maintenance and it was good to see security in place 24 hours a day even though we did not feel unsafe in any way. The beach has got issues with sea weed some days - as have others - but that's no fault of the hotels as the beaches are public. Some days the sea was clear and some days it wasn't but you have the pool as a back up in any case. In the evenings it was wonderful to have a full moon and to see turtles nesting on the beach as well as one who decided to make its way on to the sand the hour before we left. The one thing that has stopped us giving the hotel 5 stars is the beach restaurant. We ate there twice for breakfasts and whilst the staff were friendly, the cost and quality of the food was not great - we found it better to eat outside of the hotel. For example it was odd to not have the ingredients to make a pina colada on site as it was on the menu or even orange juice at breakfast time. With supermarkets so close could someone not have gone and got the ingredients? We appreciate the hotel was not full when we stayed here so peak times this might not be an issue but it would have been great to have had available in the building a place to get sandwiches during the day or snacks / ice creams and a decent range of drinks. In the end we just bought items from the supermarkets and made these ourselves. All in all I would really rate this place if you do not like being cramped when on holiday and also if you are happy to do your own thing with food and drink. We would certainly consider returning Finally Barbados is a country where they take mask wearing and sanitising very seriously and with limited hospital facilities it is clear why this is. Be prepared to wear your mask everywhere in doors at the moment and be asked to put it over your nose if it has slipped by many places. Also you will find hand sanitising is a big thing on the island as well. Pack a few masks - you will need them.…
Me and my soulmate, celebrating our anniversary and homecoming spent two weeks at the orchid. Upon checking in there was multiple issues with the ac unit which required the staff to change our room to a much larger room on the 4th fl. Unfortunately the elevator in the building we stayed in was out of order and our luggage had to be carried up by me and the staff. Once settled in we decided to ask the manager if the hotel had anything complimentary to offer us because of our length of stay and because we were celebrating. We were told by Co manager Margret Carrington that our two weeks there was "no big deal" and that she had guest stayed much longer than that. She did however come up with suggestions but never followed up with us during the duration of our stay. I could highlight other issues we had with our stay like the beds being very uncomfortable and the rooms not being thoroughly cleaned at times and so on. All and all we felt that her choice of words regarding our stay was very unprofessional. There are some pros to staying there like Budget friendly, proximity to the airport and some of the amenities. Despite it all me and my twin flame made the best of it and had a lovely time…
