There is not a lot to do on Likoma Island and Ulisa Bay Lodge makes no attempt to change that! If you are looking for excitement, entertainment or adventure you are in the wrong place. We only had two criticisms of Ulisa Bay; firstly the beach is not ideal for sitting on, the sand is very coarse and the gradient...

The owner has a bond with the local community and that is one of the atractive things of the lodge. The beach gets full of people from the area, kids swimming every afternoon when they come from school, and that gives it a plus to the place because you get to meet people from the island without moving from the...

I echo everything that stefandreas wrote about in his review - the wonderful way in which UBL is integrated with the village. I will add that our room was brilliantly clean and lovely! Staying at UBL and our experience in Likoma was the highlight of our trip to Malawi - we even added time to our stay. Most of all,...

Ulisa Bay is not the typical beach resort, with sunbeds and beach volleyball. In fact there is a nice little beach - but its not at all a resort beach but a nice village beach used by fishermen, children and animals alike. In fact the chalets are not fenced from the tiny village but merge with it - and that...

Our trip was complicated by the fact that 2 people were coming from NkhotaKota and 2 from Nkhata Bay. The owner was absolutely superb in helping us with the logistics and keeping us informed of the sailing of the 2 ferries. We went to celebrate a birthday and it was a wonderful stay well worth the effort of getting there

We loved the laid back atmosphere of Ulisa Bay. Our two days here were among the most relaxing of our holiday in Malawi. Rooms (we chose top end) nicely furnished and comfortable with lovely Dedza pottery touches in the bathrooms.(We loved the composting loos!) Food is perhaps not the best (avoid the steak) but most of it was very well...

I actually stayed at Ulisa Bay lodge in early 2014. I have been unable to log into tripadvisor until now, but have wanted to share my experience. I had planned to stay at Mango Drift but found it full, so walked the lovely path along the lake shore to Ulisa Bay. I was a single woman backpacking alone, and for...

I spent two blissful weeks at Ulisa as I took a break from a six month trip round southern Africa. No, there's not a great deal to do on the island but if you just want to relax and chill there's no better place. Start the day with a leisurely breakfast on the porch of your chalet and end it...
