2nd visit to Buttermere, this time with a large party of walkers. The car park is rather small but this would be my only complaint, for a youth hostel it has everything you need, loads of rooms, plenty of showers and the giant drying room and cleaning facilities got my soaking wet clothes dried sooner than I had hoped. Plenty...

This is the 6th YHA hostel we have visited as a family and now firmly one of our favourites! Great location, just outside Buttermere village, within easy walking distance of the 2 pubs and 2 tearooms and about a 20 minute walk along a path to Buttermere itself. The hostel is dated and could do with a bit of tlc....

Spent a couple of nights here at the end of April 16. Really quiet as outside of holiday times. Great location. Decent facilities, great for us being self catered. Just watch out for the windows rattling a little bit in strong wind!

Of course buttermere is the centre of many a fantastic walk and the glorious sunshine capped the weekends visit. Nonetheless without good food and accommodation any trip can easily unravel....

Car park is small, alternative parking is a short walk. Helpful staff on arrival. Interior decoration is clean, tidy, homely in traditional youth hostel style, huge drying room, good sized kitchen. Firstly, this is a YHA and you therefore need to go with an open mind and an awareness of what this means - it is a 5* hostel not a 5* hotel. Secondly, the is one of my absolute favourites in the Lakes - and I've stayed in nearly all of them! It is a beautiful old building that has...

Friendly staff, good facilities, lovely location. Good hiking routes. Great roads, walks, lakes. Very calm, great place to get away from it all. Good food. Overall a nice place.
