My husband and I stumbled across this hotel many years ago and booked in for the night. It was lovely. Wonderful room. Staff and food. A few years later we booked again this time for longer, it was as excellent as our previous stay. As my husband was due to celebrate a rather special birthday recently, I wanted to surprise...

Dear Susan, Many thanks for your recent stay, and for choosing The Bridge as a place to stay and celebrate your husband’s birthday. We were delighted to read that you enjoyed the room (Room 18 is one of the most popular!) and enjoyed the food, service and facilities on offer. Sorry about the weather though, that’s one thing we can’t...

Three of us fell walkers stayed for five nights in this hotel. The venue is idyllic. The rooms were fine. We greatly appreciated no TV and no music in the restaurant. The service was good. The hotel is let down by its food. For breakfast there was no fresh fruit such as grapefruit and no dried fruit such as apricots...

We stayed here last year and have been trying to get a weekend in Buttermere again for ages. Because of work we rarely get a weekend off together and first chance we got we looked to book a saturday night stay. The website says two nights minimum but I emailed to ask if a room was available and indeed they...

Dear Neilcal, Many thanks for your second review of us and for your recent stay. While we do maintain a two night stay over weekends, we can occasionally manage a one night stay if existing bookings allow or if made at short notice. Thank you too for your very kind words of our staff, service, facilities and food offerings -...

Two nights, three days in this perfectly located spot. The rooms cosy and comfortable, the pub and restaurant food homely and delicious and the staff helpful, witty and warm. Great walks all around and superb views. I would heartily recommend and will be back.

Well anyone reading my reviews can see that I don't post often; I only post to warn or highly recommend. The Bridge is a place where you can depart from the modern world and find what humanity is really all about. It's the whole understated, respectful, gentle, beautiful, time stopping package of hotel and surroundings that makes a 3 day...

Dear Mark W, Your review is fantastic - you encapsulated the whole ethos of The Bridge and what it means to be in Buttermere and truly recognise it for what it is - some stay here to relax, some to walk, some to write, some to explore - but we know when someone really "gets it" by the way their...

The Bridge Hotel in Buttermere is without doubt one of the most peaceful places to stay in the Lake District.
