Detailed Reviews
Newfound Inns and Suites (was Sunset Motel). I stayed here (Conception Bay South) in 2017 and booked in again for four nights. This is still a decent and affordable quiet motel at $644 for four nights.
Use Google Maps and see that you are less than thirty minutes from downtown St John’s, and even less to Mount Pearl, where I have done a great deal of shopping from hardware and specialty stores.
I will stay here next time I visit St John’s, but will bring my own cake of soap (the sliver provided is almost too small for my hands to grip) and will purchase a carton of milk for my tea.
Major caveat: The bath/shower in my room was slippery; there are no “grip strips” to engage the feet; I got scared twice too often.

This is a basic and budget-friendly motel with huge guest rooms and friendly, helpful staff. We stayed here after getting off a 15-hour ferry from Nova Scotia and found it easy and comfortable, a good place to stop before reaching the main city of St. John’s. There’s really nothing to do in this little town, but it has a certain rural charm. No complaints.

My almost month long stay here was excellent. I had absolutely no issues whatsoever. My unit was very clean and very well appointed and then some. Glenn the Manager was ever so helpful my entire stay. I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending this hotel for any long or short term stay. I would stay again in a heartbeat.

We tried booking a room with this hotel via their online portal. My husband was communicating with someone to arrange a room. When they told him that the room he was enquiring about wasn't available, he advised he'd be interested in the next room category below. They NEVER replied to him. So he went and booked it online instead.
2 days before the reservation, I called the hotel to confirm the reservation to find out that they downgraded us from a room with 1 Queen bed to a room with 2 Double beds, and called it an upgrade. I've worked in Hospitality and Tourism for over 20 years, and have never heard of this being an "upgrade". When I called, I made to sure to let them know that their communication is horrible and advised them that this is NOT in fact and upgrade but it is considered a downgrade.
Then they proceed to tell me that the reservation had not been confirmed by them, but that they have the last room there for us. They told me that they tried to contact my husband, who had made the reservation, to advise him that the room was not confirmed because the could only see the last 4 digits of his credit card, and the rest is blocked out. Now working in hotel, I know there are ways to get the credit card information on the hotel side.
So I called my husband to let him know the situation. My husband NEVER did receive an email from Hotels.com or from the hotel regarding this. He checked his inbox and his junk mail and nothing. He then called the hotel, spoke to a lady who told him that we are booked in a double room, take it or leave it. And then they proceed to cancel our reservation on Hotels.com.
I would NOT recommend anyone to stay here.
