We were first time in this Hotel and we had amazing stay! As we can't compare it how it was in the past we were completely satisfied with food and service in this resort. The weather was during our stay perfect and this contributed a lot for overall joy end enjoyment of our holiday. First and biggest advantage of this resort is its position and quietness. As an 18+ hotel you have completely quiet and undisturbed holiday. Beaches are just for you to enjoy.. We were amazed of this tranquil place and definitely want to come back. You can select from 3 different beaches, one just for sunbathing and relaxing, another for water life exploration and last one to enjoy the waves and ocean wind. The place is just amazing as you can see on our photos. The second biggest advantage is the Staff. We just loved how friendly and helpful all staff was. Here we want to say hello to Andre, our best barman who really did his best so that we enjoyed our stay. We would also like to thank to our butler Yenima, barman Lester at the pool bar and his colleagues, Joel at the launch room, who was always friendly and served us immediately. Manuel at sunset beach, our room maid Maria & Ide for excellent cleaning every day and all other staff whose names we don’t remember. Keep up the good work! You are simply amazing. 😊 As we were first time here we were satisfied with food quality, but after one week it became repetitive as there was everyday same food for breakfast and lunch. The dinners were very good and we enjoyed the cuisine. Fish and beef was excellent.. To improve overall quality, I would definitely recommend some room renovation. Light switches sometimes not work, paint peeling, old worn furniture, doors squeaking, fridge in room is too loud. But as we stayed in our room only for sleep, we didn’t care much. We would definitely recommend this hotel for quiet holiday. If you want to enjoy beautiful beaches and sea with most amazing staff, just go here. Thank you very much. We had our best holiday ever!

We are back home after stay at your hotel Melia Buenavista for a 14th visit. We enjoyed the tranquility and great service from all employees. Being a repeat customer and seen what it was and what it has become, we can honestly say that we feel disappointment when it comes to food and the degradation of the establishment itself. General Manager (0 out of 5) This is a 5 star rated hotel. Yes the cubain staff is 5 star +++, but unfortunately we cannot say the same for your present management (M. Constantin). We had a conversation with him about the quality and quantity of food as well has what was supplied in our room in the past and he repeatedly told us that the supply chain was the same everywhere in Cuba. Being a guest at Buenavista, we are also entitled to the 2 sister hotel Sol Cayo Santa Maria and Melia Las Dunas, which M. Constantin is also the manager. The next day, we visited the sister hotel next door and much to our surprise, there was a variety and abundance of food. It is sad to say that these hotels get more for a lesser price. M. Constantin was not very receptive and wanting to have discussion with it’s clients. That is too bad. Pool (4 out of 5) Both pools are beautiful and well maintained, but the 3 day beds were dirty and full of mold. They were removed because of customer complaints. Food (1 out of 5) Breakfast selection barely any. No jam, no peanut butter, barely any bread, no bacon, no hashbrown potato, no yogourt, no cereals. Which we all had in our past visits. For lunch, there was a better selection, but repetitive every day. The diner selection was very poor. In serious need of good chefs. Way to much sodium in everything. Felt like we were eating from the salt shaker. Washroom (1 out of 5) We notice that repairs which should have been done long ago have still not been attended to. There are only 3 washroom facilities open to the public. The one near the breakfast restaurant is fine. The other at the lobby bar, the men’s urinal which was broken 9 months ago is still not properly functional and still being used and needless to say that a strong scent of urine emanates not only in the washroom but all through the hallways. Finally, the 3rd washroom, near the pool is being used has storage. While we are on the subject of washroom facilities, a bar was added to the sunset beach a few year ago. A very beautiful setting, but unfortunately, no washroom anywhere near. Beach shower (0 out of 5) None of the beach shower are functional and this has been the case for years. Which is the same for most of the lighting on the resort. Walking at night is like a stroll in the dark. Beaches (5 out of 5) Amazing beaches. 3 to choose from. Two reproaches: a beautiful bar was added a few year ago at sunset beach but still no washroom facilities anywhere close. Second, the website pride on on the sunset ritual which in the past would also be accompanied by a class of champagne or wine. This time, nothing! Rooms (3 out of 5) Love the layout of the room. Nice and spacious. I really enjoy the outside shower. The rooms need upgrading. You have paint peeling, half of the lighting is none functional, patio door crack and very hard to open. Outdoor shower is beautiful but barely works, because they need to clean. A do not disturb card should be supplied for the door. Very unpleasant to have someone walk in while you are sleeping. They used to be available in the past. Mini bar in the room (1 out of 5) This is a five star hotel and all we got in our fridge is a bottle of water a day, which in the past, we would get soft drinks, juice and beer. None of that was available this time around. Pretty sad for an expensive 5 star hotel. Animation -Entertainment (3 out of 5) Whatever entertainment there was, it was great, but minimal compared to the previous years. In the past, at least one day a week there would be a day to showcase Cuban culture (cigar rolling, rhum tasting, traditional cuban music, etc), but not of that this time. Also in the past, we use to find in our room a schedule of all the entertainment for the week from morning to night. Now, even the staff would not know what is coming next. This should be reinstated. Staff (6 out of 5) You may wonder why we keep visiting this hotel, it is because of the 5 stars + staff, which in our opinion is the thread that keeps the establishment together. Here are just a few workers that make this hotel a 5 star +. Luis, Maikel and Vanessa: at lobby bar, excellent service Lester at pool bar, very polite and effective at his job - your the best Lester! Manuel at sunset beach bar, will make great drinks for you to enjoy. Pedro De La Torre and Perdomo at the beach, very polite and will help you at all times Pidi and Pedro Hugo at the BBQ near the pool, both of them are just AMAZING! Lianny, housekeeping crew consistent job and clean room. Lili, Yani, Daymi, Juan, all concierge are very polite and will do everything possible to please you. Navy is in charge of animation and he does an excellent job. He talks to everyone and this job is really for him. Diego, bell boy, very intelligent and speaks french and english very well. Ivette, Sidney and Daylin at reception are very amicable and always a big smile to help you out. Here are just a few workers that make this hotel a 5 star +. Having travelled through Cuba, presently has it sits, no one should pay more then 1200$ a week, not 2800$, by Cuban standards. We understand that the times have been tough for Cuba, but we have friends that work in other less expensive hotels in Santa Maria and they tell us that they have everything. By all means, this is not a complaint but some constructive comments in order to improve. Overall the establishment itself needs some upgrading. The look is still the same has it was when it first opened, while the less expensive sister hotels have been modernized more then once. *I have many other reviews about this same hotel. Hopefully, they will make major renovations or lower the price. We return for all the staff, they are amazing!!!! A+++

Just back from 10 days in Cayo Santa Maria (Hotel Melia Buenavista). Weather was perfect. The resort is lovely and the staff is very friendly. The resort still seems to recover from a two year closure (Covid) and needs some tender loving care. But overall very nice. A warning for "foodies": This is Cuba and you cannot expect gourmet meals. But you certainly will not go hungry. If you get tired of the hotel food, you can go for dinner at one of the neighbouring resorts by making an appointment with your butler. There are 3 distinct beaches depending on what you prefer (sunbathing, swimming, snorkelling). If there is anything less than positive to say, it's the cost of staying at this resort. Considerably more expensive than the other resorts on Cayo Santa Maria. We expected something "special" for such a high cost but were disappointed. Our sincere thanks to all the friendly staff for their attention and help when we needed it.

A lot to like, but some serious flaws. Let's start with the positive: the location is fantastic - at the end of a peninsula with beaches on 3 sides, each offering something slightly different, but all beautiful. The people are friendly and want to be helpful. "All inclusive" means exactly that - no charges for anything and full access to the other two hotels. The layout of the site and design of the rooms is great; the whole place feels spacious and the outside showers are a nice touch to the very generously sized rooms (really, mini-suites). But... for the price, there are too many problems to overlook: Number one is the food, which never rose above just-about-adequate and that applied to all three hotels. It's clear there's no food culture in Cuba and ingredients are hard to come by - and I get that, the Cuban people are really struggling - but a group like Melia, with so many properties in the country, should be running their own, internal catering college. Food in Spain is fabulous, they desperately need to invest in their people so they make the most of what they can source. Number two is the very poor condition of the property; our sliding balcony door would only open or close if I literally lifted it out of the runners for the first 20cm or so - something that neither my wife nor housekeeping could manage. Throughout, buildings and facilities are tired and worn and shabby. Our adults sons had no hot water until our third day. Absolutely not up to an acceptable standard. Three - housekeeping. Lots of smiles, but very little competence. Towels and bathmats never replaced, underwear mislaid then miraculously revealed in the housekeeping trolley, big variations between our room and that of our sons. All three of these problems are management issues, not a reflection on the staff. I really wanted to not just like, but love, the place - but couldn't.

It is difficult to express describe our experience as it wasn’t truly awful but it was very poor value. The rooms are big and of a lovely design. The beaches are great. You get a lot of lobster. And lobsters are expensive. There are a number of big howevers: – the food is just about okay (And we went to 4 other places in Cuba – not high end hotels - and the food was 10 times better) the service in the restaurants was very patchy and often inattentive My sisters shower barely worked and needed to clean out My sister‘s room not being cleaned on arrival properly. The rooms need some serious renovation We really didn’t get the point of the Butlers as we could book everything at reception. And no one really explained what they could do for us. One Butler we didn’t see apart from my last day. There is no in room information about the hotel. We only found out on the last day that there was a gym. The Wi-Fi process is very annoying. The minute you are not connected you have to login again. We made a number of complaints to our butler and reception and although they listened nothing happened apart from some new towels. We did say that we would not post a negative review if someone dealt with our issues. We asked for a way to send on all complaints to MeliaHQ. Sadly no one came back to us We think we knew who the overall manager was. She wandered round the hotel talking on her phone constantly. We had asked to speak to her but this did not happen It wasn’t awful, But considering how much we paid it really wasn’t the luxury experience we would’ve expected

From the moment we arrived we were greeted by our Butler, Lily, and made to feel like royalty. Lily helped us with everything - from moving rooms to where to eat, and everything in between. She would come find us each day she was there to see if we needed anything. Joel and the staff were always ready to serve when we went for breakfast and lunch. We went for a massage at the Spa - it was excellent!!! So relaxing, full body massage. For us the highlight was the beaches. Crystal clear water where you can see the fish swimming past you. We snorkeled and even saw a barracuda! Great shelters for lying on the beach if you want to avoid the sun. The food was a little challenging which is understandable with the embargo and impact of COVID. BUT I hear they have just had a change in that area, new chefs, new menus, with a focus to greatly improve meal times. For us the food wasn’t the focus, the beaches were. I even did Tai Chi with some people on the beach lookout. The Cuban people are remarkable. They’ve gone through so much - still are - and yet are always smiling and generous with their kindness. We’ll be going back!

My husband and I stayed at the Melia Buenavista for one week in November. We went fully understanding how hard hit Cuba has been from Covid, sanctions, and supply issues. Despite this, we did not get what we paid for. The biggest issues: A small bottle of expensive perfume was stolen off the bath vanity while we were at dinner. I used it before we left the room and noticed immediately that it was gone when we got back. I called reception and was told they would call back, but they didn't. I went to reception the next morning to report it again and they acted like it was not possible this was stolen. No one ever followed up with me. The food options were very limited. We both lost quite a bit of weight despite being at an "all inclusive". My husband got food poisoning at our last dinner there. We went to Las Dunas twice for dinner because they had much better variety and quality of food, drinks, and evening entertainment. The bugs were awful. We were eaten alive by "no see um" bugs. Other guests were also covered in bites and said bug spray didn't make a difference. The bites itch like crazy and last for weeks. Our butler was next to non-existant. We saw her twice and she was supposed to book dinners for us, but when we got to the dinners they didn't have the reservation. The second time, I came into the room from the balcony and was shocked to find her in our bathroom. She turned up as we were checking out and lingered, clearly waiting for a tip. The rooms are spacious but needing repairs. Our toilet had issues flushing and the sliding door separating the bathroom was stuck. There is some good here...the beaches are gorgeous and the staff at the beaches are very attentive and friendly. Overall, (other than the theft), we would have accepted these issues if we didn't feel we paid way too much for what we got. We've stayed at Las Dunas before and it was much better for a cheaper price.

Our airpods were stolen on our stay at Melia Buenavista. We went between Dec 17 to Dec 24 My girlfriend and I both had our airpods pro lying around the room. We couldn't find her airpods one day and figured it would turn up eventually. That same day, I used my airpods and went for a run. I left the airpods case in the room. After the run, I was lazy and didn't put my airpods back in the case, instead put it in my pockets and went for dinner. When I came back from dinner, my airpods case was also gone. It just so happened that while I was at dinner, nightly cleaning staff came to tidy up. We brought this up with hotel management, but they did not do anything and did not want to admit it was theft. They kept insisting we misplaced it and it was in our luggage. We're back home in Canada now and of course, it's no where to be found. We actually had our laptops/larger electronics out in the room too, but we think airpods are easy to pocket and don't stand out when the cleaning staff end their shift. We actually really liked this hotel before this incident, however we won't be returning after this.

Beautiful nature, great staff but really bad food…management just doesn’t care. My fried and I were very excited to come back to Melia Buenavista after being here 12!years ago for its opening. We remembered superb snorkelling from the beach, great bird watching and most of all, quiet, elegant setting. I am happy to confirm all of the above are still there. Alas, one very important element is missing : management that cares. Being very aware of the difficult cuban politico-economic situation , we kept our disappointments regarding Melia’s Buenavista very poor food offering for as long as we could. After visiting Las Dunas sister resort for a meal, we just couldn’t keep quiet. Las Dunas, a family oriented 1000 room resorts had 10X more quality and variety food ! Why couldn’t Buenavista offert the same level of meals, even when the price tag is 40-50% more expensive ? We feel cheated, not respected and taken for fools. Not once, not twice, but 3 times we spoke with management and never did we feel our complaints taken seriously, not even listened to. Adios Melia Buenvista, you have lost two of your most devoted clients

This place would be absolutely PERFECT if there is one thing they could improve just a little and that would be the food selection and choices. I've been going to Cuba since 1995 and well aware of the shortages and availability of food all over Cuba. During this trip, we were able to visit sister resort Melia Cayo Santa Maria and ate there on two different occasions and noticed they had more food choices which makes you scratch your head a little knowing you paid a lot more money for less food! :( The things I loved about MBV: the choice of 3 beaches, the best snorkelling in Cuba, our room, the serenity, and the staff! Service from staff was top notch. Our butlers Lili & Blondie - you girls were lovely! Thank you for making our stay so pleasant.
