Hotels in this area were pricey, but this particular hotel seemed to offer acceptable price considering its lakeside location, room type (capacity and lake view).
No wonder… This hotel was quite old; and probably needed renovation soon. Room door was still manual button lock without any other devices (deadbolt, latch, chain), so don’t forget to lock the door when you leave and ensure to have room key with you. Also, parking area was quite limited with small entrance and dark at night.
All that said, view from my room was peaceful and beautiful. There were fireworks at night during my stay, so my kids were excited to see all 3 sets, one of which was directly from this hotel. My room was spacious enough for 2 adults and 2 kids with a small table and 4 chairs looking over the lake.
With lakeside location, it was lovely to just come down from a room and have a walk along the lake for fresh air and peaceful atmosphere. Onsen was good and bigger than most I had ever visited. Second floor offered indoor and outdoor areas.
Breakfast and dinner were organized in time-slot arrangement, so crowd control was quite well managed. A selection was ok, but seemed to be exactly the same every day. If you chose half board or full board over your 2-3 days stay, prepared to deal with the same set of selection each day.

The price here is cheaper than the rest. Room was decent, clean. Onsen was small but the outdoor onsen (not so outdoor actually, it's like a room without walls on one side but blocked with some strategically placed wooden panels for your modesty) was quite good though it is open to male/female on alternate days. Buffet dinner and breakfast was ok except that the restaurant was always crowded and the staff always looked really stressed (imagine serving so many tourists most of whom do not speak your language). If you get a lakeview room you can see the fireworks from your room's balcony. Otherwise, just step out from the back gates of the hotel. The hotel is served by the Motomachi bus stop - not all buses to Lake Toya will stop here. Most will stop at the Bus Terminal, in which case it is about 10-15 minutes walk away. There is a 7-eleven nearby.

Good location, just by lakeside of Toyako. Adequate space for two families. Terrific view on facing the lake. On the evening, very close to watch the fireworks and illuminations. The onsen is wonderful to relax and warm body in such a cold weather.
Basically good service, but rushing clients out of the dining room just after the breakfast made the mood a little uncomfortable .

This hotel was not an authentic Japanese experience and felt like a waste of a lot of money to be honest. From the first moment I walked into the hotel to the last, I didn’t enjoy much.
First impressions of the hotel are ugly, out of date and old. You are greeted by too many decorations and plants (less is more), a tiny shop and old-fashioned seats. We were not greeted by the receptionists, instead the first thing they said was “can I see your passports” in Japanese. Then, as I began searching for them in my bag, she rudely asked again, even though I was obviously searching. Then, she gave us a lecture on a bunch of nonsense rules that we will talk about later. These two ladies were not friendly or welcoming and should be talked to. One of them could speak Chinese I remember which was helpful. The other reception staff that we encountered were very friendly and caring. But one very odd rule was that we had to PAY AT CHECK-IN.
First, let’s start with the tiny room. We bought the most expensive room, located on the top floor. For ¥40 000 per night - it was an absolute rip-off. People should not be paying that much for a two and a half star hotel. I enjoyed the traditional Japanese floor, but in the photos, the beds were raised and not on the ground. Also, the furniture in the room was very old and unstable. The fridge was placed on the ground in the corner which is ridiculous and unhygienic.
The photo of the bathroom made it look nice and spacious. It was the complete opposite with next to no counterspace, ugly floors and a cramped space overall. Strangely, with a push of a button, the tap handles could control the shower. This meant that if you were brushing your teeth and accidentally knocked the button, the shower could turn on and potentially splash all over you. However, there was a good amount of amenities, but they were all hidden away in the closet for some reason!
Next, the worst part of the hotel - the dining room. I was in complete shock the first time I walked in. I thought I was walking into a school canteen! The tables were the ugliest shade of brown possible and the seats were very uncomfortable. The decorations on the windows were pink and hideous. Oddly, this hotel is apparently obsessed with cubes with fairy lights on them. Two in front of the hotel, some in the lobby and one in the restaurant. They just look out of place.
As I’ve been to Japan 4 times before, I’ve had the opportunity to experience a lot of delicious food. This hands down was the worst food I’ve ever tasted in Japan. I could not find one tasty dish. The drink selection was very limited to orange juice (not fresh) in the morning and for dinner, coke and juice is the only non-alcoholic option. I think that the chef(s) should be taught how to cook properly.
I’m not a big fan of eating while looking at other people’s feet, but the hotel staff seem to not care. That’s right, people wear slippers to breakfast and dinner. People even wear onsen kimonos to the buffet!
And here’s the dealbreaker: you have to book a time to eat breakfast!!! When checking-in, the receptionists will ask if you would you like to eat at 6, 7 or 8 am. Then you have to keep a coupon and try not to lose the piece of paper for a day. And you have to Every hotel I have ever gone to just asks you go from eg. 6-10am, but this hotel makes you choose an hourly time slot! And breakfast FINISHES AT 9AM! All of this booking-time-slots business applies to the included dinner as well!
And I know I shouldn’t be complaining about this, but why is dinner included with the room in the first place?!
The only positive about this buffet was the service was good.
When a hotel has the word, ‘onsen’ in their name, you expect their onsen to be really amazing. This was 100% not the case! The onsen walls were MOULDING!! The whole thing was extremely old and looked liked it hadn’t been renovated for 50 years. The room was extremely foggy unlike every other onsen I’ve ever been to! WORST of all, the outside onsen rotates every second day from male to female. I should be allowed to go to the pit side onsen whenever I feel like it. There was no view in the onsen with tinted glass indoors and a wooden barrier outside. And sure, if you got rid of them, people from the outside would be able to see naked bodies, but why have an onsen on level 1, when you could have an onsen with a good view on level 7 or 8. The overall impression of this onsen was not very positive at all.
I was glad to be checking out of a hotel for the first time, but also very annoyed at how early the check out time was - 10AM! Early breakfast, early check-out, late check-in - this hotel is clearly catering to their own needs rather than their customers. All these rules about meals and paying first has annoyed me extremely, making my first experience at Toya very negative. After visiting the spectacular Windsor Resort, and having a meal at Michel Bras, I am happy to say that next time, if there even is a next time, I will be staying there.
I struggled to find good points, and believe me I was searching. And the worst part was paying so much for so little quality. I inept you to take in every last negative and turn them into positives. Please do not be offended or hurt about this review, take it as a learning experience and a motivation to do better.

Hotel staffs are friendly. Poor room security. The hotel is still using old school lock with KEY. Room is old, can smell the woods of the cupboard really need to renovate the entire hotel. Location is good lake toya just right in front of the hotel. Bathroom too small for an Asian size like me. The breakfast and dinner was horrible . Limited choice and the food was label in Japanese language only . The rate is too expensive for a hotel like this, paid for USD265 is not worth at all.. over price hotel

The view from the hotel is pretty good and the price is much better compared to the other more famous hotel next to it.
Food and service is ok but don’t expect to be served as if you are eating at Nijo market.
One plus point is that the hotel was not crowded and the onsen was pretty much a private one.
The outdoor onsen is quite nice too.

On arrival at the hotel we were very pleased to be offered an upgrade to a lake view room for no extra charge. On entering our room we were stunned at the magnificent expanse of blue water beneath our balcony. The room was Japanese style and the beds were firm and comfortable. When we requested another pillow we were immediately given two. The buffet dinner we chose started at 5:30 pm. The range of foods was extensive and delicious, some of the best food we have eaten over the six years we have been visiting Japan! The waiting staff were very pleasant and directed us to our table and showed us how to begin the buffet. After a delicious dinner we went back to our room and watched the nightly fire work display over the lake. The next day after an early onsen bath, we had breakfast with a great variety of Japanese food including Onsen boiled eggs. All in all I would thoroughly recommend to stay at this hotel and beautiful Lake Toya.

It's a bit confusing to arrive there, so if you don't know Japanese just get a bus and ask the driver you want to reach Motomachi stop. Don't go to Toyako center stop because it's at least 10 min by foot.
The rooms were great, western style beds with a Japanese low table and seats. Views to the lake were great, so make sure to book a room with views to Toya lake, it's worth it. During summer they have fireworks every night.
Their onsen is quite simple, and the rotenburo (outdoor bath) is switched by gender every day, so maybe you won't be able to enjoy it.
Food is ok, buffet style, not the greatest buffet I've ever had but it was ok, the tables were annoying, plastic sheets, a bit sticky.
The best thing of the hotel were the lake views and the tables in the garden where you could sit and relax while drinking a beer.
