My wife and two kids (aged 3.5 years and 9 months) spent the weekend at The Lakehouse at Toyako. Coming from Sapporo, it is convenient and beautiful 2 hour drive. The Lakehouse is lovely, spacious and airy. The rooms are beautifully built out of cedar wood, giving it that outdoor, woodsy feeling. You can rent out a room or the whole house. Full kitchen facilities are available at an extra cost. We stayed in the Sakura room- loads of space (high ceilings, big windows, big bathroom with large bath and shower) - highly recommended. The Lake House is situated right next to the lake (with easy access to the water) and has the amenities you need- stand up paddle boards, canoes, bikes, 4X4, Etc Just as important as the actual facility itself are the owners- Jonny and Ayuko. They are friendly, fun, personable and accommodating, Thank you for a great stay that none of us will forget. See you on many future ocassions. Trip, Noako, Yuto, Kento Sapporo

Normally we go to Hokkaido in the winter but this was our first time to check it out is Summer. We were based ourselves at a friend's place in Niseko and decided to take a drive, for the day, to Lake Toyako. We had seen some advertisements for the Lakehouse on FB and wanted to check it out. We spent the day there and really enjoyed ourselves. It's really a beautiful spot and the grounds were lovely and well maintained. The owner welcomed us and we rented some SUP boards and a canoe for the kids and hit the water. It was a fantastic day and we spent a lot of time out on the water. We came in for lunch, they have sandwiches, ice cream, beer and coffee. Pretty basic stuff but all of it tasty and well presented. We talked to the owner about the place (very interesting conversation) and went and had a look around the house. It's huge and seemed very nice. Outside there was enough space there for a large private party or even camping area if they installed some outside toilets and other amenities (also has its own go-kart track - but no go carts).

This is our second time at the Lakehouse and the location is so serene and peaceful. Having direct lake access is a definite plus and you can go paddling or go for a swim right at your doorstep. The rooms are very comfortable with good linen and the Japanese baths are nice and deep. There are a few cafes and restaurants not far from the lakehouse, but they are not open everyday, so best to plan ahead if you are arriving in the evening. I would recommend hiring a car so you can explore the surrounding areas and visit the supermarket if you are staying for a few days. There is a family mart and somewhere to buy organic vegetables close to the lakehouse, but for other essentials you will need to drive to the next town.

The Lakehouse property is simply one of a kind - not just in Hokkaido but globally. Stunning location, wonderful bedrooms and a perfect set up for hosting parties of all sizes. We have been back a few times now and the property continues to get better and better as the owners invest further in what is already an exceptional interior. Don’t forget to paddle on and cycle around the Lake!

With great discomfort, we stayed at Lakehouse for five nights in August. We checked in late and we were horrified by the hygiene of the place, especially the large kitchen area that connects to the living area. Thick layers of grime in the oven exhaust with hundreds of little bugs that were dead and stuck in the think layer of grime. Kitchen appliances (toasters and water heater) were in horrifying state. Washing machine and dishwasher were moldy. (actual large black mold in the dishwasher) Very early morning, we notified the local staff and also hotel.com (where we made the reservation). We asked for reimbursement for two nights (the local staff came to the property around 4 pm the day after) and after a month, the property owner, via local staff, notifies us that they are also disgusted by the condition of place, adding that they thought it was "sufficient and satisfying" that the property was cleaned the day after, or day no.2, we checked in. The first two nights colored our entire trip in Hokkaido. There are other issues with the property, we stopped informing the owner and local staff because we just wanted to return home. Overall, the place seems abandoned and neglected. The owner does not seem to have a sense of responsibility that the place needs to be prepared *prior* to check in and blames the former guests for the state of the property. Do not stay here. There are other places in Hokkaido and I am sure they will be prepared *prior* to check-in.
