There is little to do in Podstrana itself during the day, other than spending time on the beach. We hired a car online at a reasonable rate from Last Minute who have an office in the adjacent Le Meridien hotel. We used it for 2 days to go to Krka National Park the Salona Roman ruins and Trogir. Split is less than half an hour by bus, which is very convenient, with a one-way fare of about £1.50. We spent 2 days there and would highly recommend Diocletans Palace, particularly the underground part. Have a great time!
