The hotel (rather the reception) looked like a doll house... So old and not well maintained! The staff was never there. No one can help you, one lady came the first day just to hand me the keys after I called many times... and then she disappeared! Never saw her again! She didn't even help me by providing informations or anything, knowing that I asked her for.. Not really nice welcoming people! I don't recommend it at all for solo-travelers
My wife and I were unfortunate enough to have a holiday to South Carolina abandoned due to Hurricane Florence. We hurriedly booked a holiday in Crete and chose a hotel/flight package to the Violetta Hotel in Amoudara near Heraklion. The folk there are very friendly on arrival but inattentive during the stay. The room was like a cell. The fridge was rusting, the kettle ancient. No coffee or tea satchets. We were awakened every morning at 3.30am by barking dogs and subjected to motor cycle racers until 1 am each morning. Eventually we moved out to find better accommodation No way we would ever go back there. Amoudara as a base in Crete is tacky, unclean and the beaches are full of sand flies. Choose somewhere else. Not a great place to stay AT ALL.
Me and my friend had a very nice stay in the hotel in mid summer. We where very welcomed by the family that runs the hotel and that is one of the reasons of our pleasant stay (and good ice coffee at the pool from George). If you looking for luxury then this is not a hotel for you, but if you are looking for a simple hotel with all the simple needs, then its very good. The furniture is quit old, but i think that is kind of the charm of the hotel. The airconditioning is included in the price, what is very nice to have in the hot summer. The hotel lays les then 2 min walking from the beach in a nice neighbourhood with a lot of restaurants to eat. The busstop is next to the restaurant of the hotel what makes it super easy to travel to the Heraklion and other places.
We found it basic but clean and friendly , the food was really nice and excellent value , the family especially George we're very friendly and catered to our every need . George was very informative and pointed out places to visit on the island which we did . Lovely small place Ammourdara with lots of nice shops and restaurants. Overall , everyone were really nice and accommodating . Violets hotel is a good place to stay as it is easy to get around the island and only a 30 minute bus ride to the airport. Thank you George and family for making unwelcome , we'll be back . Excellent service and value . Alan and Debbie.
The room was small, poor and dirty. It hasn't been renovated for more than 40 years. Plumbing problems in the bathroom. The fridge was old, rusty and dirty. Spider web on the curtain. The wifi signal could not be detected. The staff was careless and non-professional.
We were fortunate enough to spend over a week vacationing at the Violetta Hotel. The rooms are clean, comfortable and have a very nice balcony. It’s right across the street from the beach and is located on the main road with shops, bus stops, doctor’s office and taxi stand near-by. They have a beautiful pool just in case you get sick of the beach. There is free WIFI at the adjoining restaurant called Pergola. The food is homemade with local ingredients, some of which are grown right on the property. Every item we ordered from the menu was delicious, and the pizza is out of this world! The bar-tender Giorgos makes awesome mojitos and keeps the raki flowing! The Violetta, Pergola and next-door shop are family owned. They are absolutely lovely people who made us feel welcome and at home. They are extremely personable and are very attentive to the needs of the guests. We received great travel suggestions from Giorgos, who made our trip that much better. When it came time to leave, we felt as though we were saying goodbye to a friend. Do yourself a favor and visit and Violetta… or if you already have a hotel, make a trip to Pergola for a pizza and some raki! We hope to return there on our future travels as well.…
I've been there every year for the past decade and I have to admit that Hotel Violetta is the greatest vfm ( value for money ) hotel you can find. Even though the hotel is in a quiet area , the sea is 5 minutes away and you can find many bars and clubs nearby. The staff is very polite and helpful and they will always make sure every customer is satisfied by offering a personalized customer service.
Very nice hotel, surrounded with palm trees, and other beautifull trees all in blossom :), with a nice swimming pool, few minitues from the beach. Bus stop is just round the corner. The owners, Manolis and Mria are very nice people, friendly and helpful.. We had a simple room with balcony on the first floor, it had everything we need. Good value for a budget price, very good impression. Will definitely stay at this hotel again.
The hotel is simple but comfortable. Our ground floor room had a balcony with views of the garden; a profusion of bougainvillea, campsis radicans, roses, hibiscus & morning glory - really beautiful. Only a few metres to the lovely pool for a bask in the sun & a refreshing swim. The bar & restaurant served a good range of food & drink. Manolis (the manager), his wife Maria, and their son George were very friendly and helpful. We particularly enjoyed our conversations with Manolis about the old Amoudara, food & drink, and the political scene in Greece, Europe, the UK and worldwide.
This hotel is the most basic place i have ever seen. The location is great, 2 min from the beach, close to restaurants, however, the so called studio is a hotel room with a sink oposite your bed. The cleaning is optional here and unfortunately this is not great. Mouse dropping under the sink and spider webs across the room. The air condioned is €5 a day and you won't be able to survive without. Manolo and his wife are wonderful and helpful but i guess thats all they can do. If you toughen up for camp conditions than you will be fine, and have in mind in very cheap.
